Portland metro area’s homelessness spending has surged to over half a billion dollars, encompassing three counties in Oregon. Despite this massive financial outlay, homelessness continues to rise in Multnomah County, while Washington and Clackamas counties report declines. The expenditures, primarily directed towards temporary shelters and services, highlight the ineffective strategies of progressive policies. Critics argue that lenient approaches and inadequate enforcement have turned Portland into a haven for homeless individuals from across the country. The Supreme Court's upcoming decision on a critical case will determine if cities can regulate encampments without providing adequate shelter for all. This case has significant nationwide implications, as West Coast cities struggle with the paralyzing effects of the Ninth Circuit's ruling. The debate underscores the necessity for stricter regulations and more effective solutions to address the escalating homelessness crisis.

Remember when tax payer dollars used to be used on public services that benefit the community and its citizens ? Not to be wasted on enabling and promoting people making bad choices, bad decisions, and harming themselves and their communities. It is if you've been paying taxes for decades and then cant afford housing for you and your children bc of a tragedy or anything that happens like this inflation in rent that is completely unnecessary!!! Thats what you pay taxes for....i pay close to $600 in taxes a month put of my pay but cant afford food and gas bc my rent is $1,000 for a 2 bedroom apartment.....dont judge or make dumb comments without knowing all the facts or even most peoples story.....people on drugs and homeless drug heads do make our community unsafe and unattractive, but if the government would monitor these politicians and how all tjis money they take from us every fucking paycheck, and give fair medical care and insurance and fair wages, we wouldnt be having this conversation. Its real easy for this asshole to run off at the mouth on his podcast, but he isnt out there making solutions or helping those who make the decisions or change but he has alot to say!!!! Lord help yall soul....i pray you never have a hardship and need housing and find yourself sleeping in a park with a cop yelling at you and possibly shooting you all bc u lost your job or whatever made u have a bad luck moment.

Camping on public property (city owned property) is still trespassing, like it or not. There should be a place for camping. Preferably outside of the city. So if people just absolutely want to be homeless, then be as homeless as you want away from city streets. Residents shouldn't have to put up with this chaos.

I've never seen a courthouse in the middle of nowhere. They're inevitably built where population density is, or is planned to be, the largest. Perhaps the inhabitants of these edifices of justice would give city leaders more latitude to deal with the drug / homelessness issue if they too had to step over sleeping / drug-ravished bodies everyday at work?

Isn't it cruel and unusual punishment when kids can't play in a park, runners risk stepping on syringe needles or residents can't sleep at night because of homeless ppl screaming outside their apartments or knocking on their windows? I was screamed at by two ppl in Portland while visiting for no reason. My son finally moved due to endless drama with homeless and his freedom being threatened. The normal citizen can no longer just live their life in peace and safety.

The help and services should come with behavioral expectations and requirements. Supply a house with dorm rooms (one for men, one for women, and one for family) and curfew with requirements the occupants have to help with keeping their areas clean , and with the maintenance and food preparation and clean up. They can recover a sense of purpose, good habits, and skills while being housed and fed. And assisted in getting a job and becoming independent. If they don’t want to cooperate with that, then leave the edit: county, or jail, or a mental hospital, whichever is most appropriate. Actually help people instead of enabling them while they are abusing to others and trash and vandalize public and private property. And that court decision is bs and harmful & dangerous to both the homeless, the tax payers, and the community.

Well, lets get some stuff straight for bullshitters here. Cities, can move homeless people if 1. Either offer homeless a shelter, Shelter has some condition, e.g., it should be permanent. 2. Offer them a designated area of camping for homeless. Cities don't want to do any of that, and the court ask, then what the hell homeless supposed to do? There are no shelters, there is no designated place to camp, then how the hell they are supposed to sleep?
@sammyhooligan803
@sammyhooligan803 17 күн бұрын
Absolutely, but if areas are designated, there has to be security, Water stations, portable restrooms, Etc. This would cost money, alot. Once it's designated, the agency doing that takes full responsibility of everything associated with it.

This subject has nothing to do with the Constitution because the homeless are NOT IN CUSTODY and the clause states clearly that the condition of "cruel and unusual" is followed by "PUNISHMENT" which refers clearly a condition inflicted upon the person as a condition of state punishment or correction. It does NOT refer to people for whatever reason are doing this freely of their own volition.
