What I find especially good about this scene is that it's doing multiple things at once for the progression of the plot, world building, and personal development. First and foremost, it shows that Mr. Brown is a bit of a scoundrel as he seems to know all the tricks of the trade of the merchants who are trying to sell useless crap to him. Second it shows some the commonwealth (as schizoidboy said) reminding the audience that this is still in wartimes despite the cheerful dancing. And finally, at times the movie tends to feel that it is just showing off for the sake of it, but it's purpose is to show how happy and playful everyone is being in comparison to Miss Price. She, for the majority of the song has been a no nonsense women hell bent on her task, but close to the end, we see a side of her open up as she finally starts to enjoy the festivities around her. All this while also being a good dance sequence. Just a wonderful film.

This number is overblown and stops the show cold. This film is insufferable. MARY POPPINS is the gold standard. Streamlined story telling. Bedknobs was made after Walt’s death and it shows. None of his Magic. Hackneyed, cold, uneven, and a big bore.

I watch this video now at 40 years old and the second the song starts I’m instantly brought back to the very first time I ever heard/saw it as a 6 year old girl, sitting on the floor by the Tv in my grandmothers living room and I can remember how soft the rug was, I can remember the smell of the roast chicken she was cooking, I remember the perfume my mother was wearing and it always amazes me how a song can bring back so much memories, core memories. Ha! I've seen this movie well over a hundred times throughout my life and I think I only now noticed the pretty dancing girl taking off on her own after the rest of her troop about faces! 4:25 Little details made this movie a classic!

My favourite scene was always the dancing soldiers, especially the (sorry if I get the nationalitys wrong) Indian and Carribbean parts because I loved the dancing and hadn't heard that kind of music before. Such a charming movie, makes me think of staying over at my Grandparent's

love how Ms. Price is looking for the other half of an incredibly old dingy book by flipping through mostly well kept pristine books lol. loved this movie since i was a wee lad.

I heard a melody in a comedy video that was very similar to this and it took me a few hours to realize that this song is what was stuck in my head. I'm really glad that I grew up watching this movie on VHS even though my parents were around 6 when it came out so it was a bit older

Angela's recent death made me think of this movie. It's my favorite one she starred in. And this will always be the best musical number in Disney. Rest in Peace Angela Lansbury ❤️

I loved this movie as a kid. I majored in history in college and love how even in the 1960’s when this film was made, they accurately represent all of the factions of the British Empire who served in “His Majesty’s” military and did their part to save the free world from Hitler and fascism. West Africans, Scots, Indians, South Africans along with the regular royal British Army, Navy and Air Force. I only wish they had had musical section for the ANZAC’s (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) would’ve been awesome to hear some didgeridoo’s. 😂🤣💙

I haven't seen this extended version in years, the shortened one was on my old VHS and so that's the one I remember, think they managed to capture a bit of everything whilst trimming some longer dance sequences. Both are good, shorter one flows a little better for me, but maybe that's cos it's the one I grew up with!

Yknow, I have the same version as you, where most of the video is trimmed down. I had a shock from watching the original edition years later and then wondering where they got the extra scenes from

Iv seen this movie loads of and it becomes even better everytime, because there is so much I understand now. To see Mr. Browne alonside with the kids while walking hand in hand with them, and waving to Paul to while sitting at the piano and miss Price taking part in a jolly dance, reminds me a bit of my own parents and grandparents when they took my sisters and I to a funfair as kids.
