It will never not be the most surreal thing to me knowing that this film came from the writer and producer of James Bond

I believe that chitty chitty bang bang might be a james bond prequel, so James bond and chitty chitty bang bang were written by Ian Fleming, Q gives bond his first car with built in gadgets in Goldfinger set in 1964 when Q is about 50, which would make q born in the 1910s that could mean that Q is either Jeremy Potts grown up OR Caractacus Potts & Truly Scrumptious's child

Lionel Jeffries was so perfect in this role. He's the proverbial British Gentleman, no pretense, not assuming, but always the Gentleman, no matter the situation, no matter the hardship.

Captian Lionel Jeffries (a WWII war soldier and awarded the Burma Star) in this role is one of my most enjoyed portrayals of a fictional character. Delightfully eccentric. That's what I aspire to in my senior years. Now upon me.

Little known fact that Lionel nearly died during the filming of this scene when there was a technical fault and the outhouse was completely submerged in water. This created a fear of water that he would have for the rest of his life. A few years later, he would nearly drown AGAIN when filming a scene for a comedy. The sketch included them crashing a car into a pond, however they misjudged how deep it was and the car completely sunk and Lionel was only able to escape by the skin of his teeth for the second time.

Dangerous film, as i recall the child catcher had a similar close call when his carriage flipped over.
@joshuaking3731
@joshuaking3731 2 сағат бұрын
@silvercat18 That he did. I would say the main difference here is the actor who played the child catcher, Robert Helpmann, was an accomplished stuntman, as well as a professional ballet dancer. According to Dick Van Dyke he recognized it was tipping and simply walked off the carriage as it was rolling like he was in an action film.

@@morganbailey3231 I'm not going to bother looking for this interview because it doesn't matter. If Van Dyke said Jeffries was 39 during filming, he was wrong. I'll trust IMDb, Wikipedia, and Jeffries' own obituary in _The Guardian_ before what Van Dyke said off the top of his head about another man's age in an interview. Anyway Jeffries was a WWII veteran of the Burma campaign. If he were 39 in 1968, he would have been 16 in 1945.
