Hi Anthony, firstly sorry to hear about your back but glad to hear you're doing ok now :) about the early bird offer, even though it looks pretty impressive with what little is shown here, I did actually pick up the Neo lifetime licence but then they introduced many great and usable features and made them exclusive to their subscription based model and I ended up subscribing as well as having a lifetime licence so that is why I lost a bit of trust in them and won't be falling into that trap again!

I don't trust any of these companies when they offer things. There is a company called PlayOn that makes a program called PlayOn a lifetime license and it had some bugs it in. So they re-wrote the code and told people the license was only for the old engine.

I've been playing around with Evoto and I've been super impressed with their feature set. Specifically, I love the body skin blemish removal, smile enhancement, glasses glare removal, and flyaway hair removal. These features save me a ton of time! That said I hate their business model of selling credits to process a set number of photos. I'd rather a one-time fee or subscription to that variable model, so I'm hoping that Aperty is meant to be Skylum's take on this functionality. I also much prefer Luminar Neo's UI and general editing abilities. Fingers crossed.

I dont understand why this isnt going to be an added extension to luminar neo. I thought the whole point of paying a subscription is to keep paying for the development of new features and increasing the value of the product we’re continuing to pay for. Its not a good look for them in my eyes.

It's a completely different piece of software with a different intent. It's kinda like expecting Lightroom to be an extension for Photoshop. They're separate beasts built on separate engines for different purposes. Not the best analogy, but hopefully you get the idea. 😀

They did the same with Neo. But the people who got on the band wagon early ended up getting a lifetime licence for a steal. This app is aimed at the pro level market so I imagine the current price (and opportunity to own the licence rather than subscribe) will reward those who make the leap of faith. As it did with Neo.

I Own Luminar Neo lifetime version, and now we are not able to buy the new extensions. Why should I buy this new Aperty if after we can't buy new extension as well. We will be stock with two software that will remain incomplete? Because I saw that if you click upgrade, it doesn't upgrade your software to the supscription model, it force you to buy a new one in addition to pay montly fees.

Hi mate. I don't think there will be extensions for this software. I believe (based on my current information only) that it'll be an all in one. I have a hunch Skylum probably wish they hadn't introduced extensions and had of just added hem into Luminar Neo... so they will probably stick away from that approach going forward. (JMHO)

@@AnthonyTurnham Thanks mate. I think I will give them a chance with this new software. Maybe it will be what I'm expecting it to be. I've tried to like PortraitPro Studio from Anthropics, I've test 3 different upgrade but it still look too fake. I think Skylum does better quality softwares and more professional. Since I got Luminar Neo I've used it more often than PortraitPro and Paint Shop Pro.

I'm not sure if it's worth it since a lot of these things can be found in Luminar Neo. You have the Skin AI with Skin defect removal which is similair. This app must be on a whole other level to be considered interessting. The thing I really want from such software is missing it's Ai removal of Stray/static hairs on portraits.

Things like frequency separation, auto skin toning, high end retouching and contouring all done automatically are what pushes this into the realms for the pros who do portraits and beauty work regularly. It's going to be a big time saver for those people. For general portrait work Neo still does a good enough job.

Kneeling is something I always have to think twice about because I'm 72, and getting up from a squat or rising from the knees is not always a sure thing. ;) For the record, I still do it... cautiously. I really hate getting old. Hope you feel even better soon.

I like you, and I’m sure you love the product but I stopped using their products because of their sales tactics and methodology around having a new product that has the thing the existing product should have changing the names and all the other things they’ve done over the last five years. They make a dope at times look quite reasonable in their tactics. Anybody who’s got any history with this company? Will know what I’m talking about.

Thanks. To be fair I haven’t had access to use it first hand as the beta hasn't been released yet. So this is more of an information vid on what we know so far so for now, I don't really have an opinion on how much I like the new software. But, Neo, yes, I do really like using that 🙂

Oh and regards to marketing by Skylum. Yes I agree that in the past the approaches they've taken have indeed been questionable. I do also think they pivoted to a much more customer centric/ customer friendly approach in more recent times. I think they heard the feedback (like what you said) and changed for the better. Jmho 🙂

No one ever said photography wasn't dangerous:). When you wear white that is usually the ONLY time you spill something on yourself. As for the new software, it looks like it will be useful for professional portrait photographers as you said. For the rest of us I know we'd love the engineers to focus on continued improvement of Neo's performance and adding some features that we are still waiting for from a couple years ago (i.e. fixing the Vignette Tool after cropping). I love Luminar no matter what.

I believe they're aiming it at a professional editing market and pricing it accordingly. When I think how many hours editing bridal portraits this would have saved me over multiple weeks of many years as a wedding photographer it's a bargain. Likewise a few pro photog friends that shoot family portraits have already snapped it up cos it's equivalent to several hours of paying their retoucher. BUT, if I just wanted it to edit the odd portrait now and again, yeah it'd be too much. Like I said in the vid, it might be perfect for some people but just not right for others.

Considering it is one off it isn't bad. I can't remember the most popular software at the moment (Retouch4me I think) but it has many different modules and paying for all of them costs well over $1k. Others charge you for each photo. If this is very good then nothing else will come close to this price.

I don't know Skylum's future marketing plans but I believe this program is going to move to subscription only so during the pre-release is the only time it'll be available as a one-time purchase. - at least that's what I've heard... No promo code from Skylum as the price is already an "earlybird special".

I know what you mean about doing some ordinary thing and get injured. My daughter is looking to get into photography. Would you recommend starting out with Aperty or learning the "old fashioned" way first?

Hi. Good question! To be honest I wouldn't be starting with Aperty. It's going to be a great tool for professional photographers who want shoot a lot of portraits, but it's unlikely to be a good tool to learn the photography or photo editing. There are other better options that cover a more broad basis for photo editing. While I really love Lightroom and Photoshop they're hard to get into as they're quite complex (as are some of their clones). I do a lot with Luminar Neo on this channel and it's a great place to start. There are various tools that make editing easy - but more importantly, it has the toolset for more complex editing, so as your daughter gets a handle on the basics it will expand with her growing skillset. Whereas Aperty is just portraits, Neo caters to all genres of photography. I've used it successfully for landscapes, family photos, architecture, etc... this is nice because as a new photographer you often want to play with different genres until you find your niche. They're currently running a promo here: bit.ly/NeoSale that also includes some free training! Might be worth a look and it would definitely be my recommendation for her.

you were in the Azores? So, may I assume that you shot some amazing landscape photos? Especially as the Azores may offer all four seasons in one day on the same spot and of course the local cuisine is equally wild and offers some most amazing food photography. But I also understand that you probably focused on portrait photography of the gorgeous and so typical Azores girls ???

Well here's the funny thing. We had 3 days of exploring and landscape photography planned, and it rained 🌧 pretty much continuously. All our planned sunrise/sunset sessions ended up looking out to a sea of greyness. A real shame. But the experience was still fantastic and I met a lot of great people and talented photographers. And yes, the food was soooo goooood! 😃

Huh! Looks like super interesting tech! Probabaly not for me, though. I just like taking quality pictures when I'm on vacation - and even then I mostly take shots of my dogs. (Which, presumably, this won't work for ... ) Is there any kind of integration with Neo or is this a whole different thing?

I think that's the point of their earlybird pre-release. So the early adopters benefit from owning it outright without the need for a subscription.

??? Redblum is a pay monthly. After less than 2 years it works out more expensive rather than cheaper? I guess if you don't intend to keep doing portraits longterm then Redblum may be a better option.

@@strippedlist Maybe. I was just saying that to pay for 2 years of Redblum is more expensive than the license for Aperty. That was all. You mentioned it was cheaper so I had a look. I wasn't guessing I was basing it on the pricing on their website and comparing the two. Aerty was cheaper not Redblum. Keep using them longer than this and Redblum just becomes increasingly more expensive. All good though, this was only meant to be a bit of information for people to take or leave. Just like any product in the market, what's over priced for some, others see value in. It's all a matter of perspective. I think my wife's hair products and skin creams are over priced and there's other cheaper options that I think do the same thing. Se tinks my camera gear is over priced and there are cheaper cameras that in her opinion do the same thing.

I never understood why removing of “blemishes” is part of the art of portrait photography. For me, as soon as a natural blemish is removed it is not a portrait anymore. It’s fiction! If fiction is your thing, that’s fine. But it’s not portrait photography any more.

Yeah, I hear ya. Thing is that a lot of clients want to look as good as possible and will actually request that kind of retouching. Key is for the software to distinguish between marks that come and go and those that are part of our permanent makeup. If for example as a pro you're working on a beauty campaign the last thing the client will want to see is blemishes. Like I said this one's more aimed at the professional photographer market.

i think its a good deal. The amount of time you will save will far outway the cost of the software. Its funny, but people will pay 75 dollars for a packet of smokes, or 150 on a night out but cannot see the value in a permanent purchase that is still there the next day. I could go on . BTW i know what the bad back feels like. Plenty of yoga stretching helps, Get those hammies loose.. Sitting on that big wallet doesn't help either .lol

Totally agree. One of the best bits of advice I got when I started my photography business was to invest in myself (education etc) and invest in my business. I've followed that mantra before splashing the cash on frivolous niceties and now I'm in the lovely position that I put my back out sitting on my stacked wallet 😜

What about the updates? When I ask they only said a few years? Sotware is always updating. I would hate to purchase this and then new features come out and I won't be able to get them. @anthony

I think it's dangerous for any company to promise something years into the future. Perhaps they're being careful of over promising... idk 🤷♂️. I guess even if you got a couple of years of updates it's still well under a dollar a day to use it...

won't need this but if I did portraits, I would really consider it. If they would put alot of this tech into their noise reduction so as to preserve facial details, that would be cool
