This oil painting tutorial is about the portraiture method used during the Renaissance period. Our Study the Masters courses focuses in on one Master each month, and we analyze their technique, mediums, and genre. This month, students will learn portrait techniques of Sandro Botticelli, in order to use these techniques to paint modern day portraits.
For this tutorial, I used oil and tempera on canvas but you can also use a wood panel. Studying this painting technique can be very useful for opening up your knowledge about the different styles in making portraiture and also developing your personal painting style.
