Portuguese knitting - Stranded knitting

Traditional stranded knitting in Portugal is done on the wrong side, always purling unless absolutely necessary. Two knitting pins are used to hold the yarns (one on each shoulder). This is a short video showing how it's done and my technique for wrapping floats.

Thank you so much for this video. I have been a knitter for 4 years and couldn’t do color work at all the tension was always off. After seeing this technique i tried it and now am almost finished with my first fair isle sweater ❤

Thank you for posting this video! I have not yet tried it, but this wrong-side view could actually be easier than knitting from the front side, since knitter can see what is going on "back there".

Olá, é assim que funciona quando estamos no lado do avesso, e como fazer quando estamos no lado direito? Refiro-me ao modo como fazes o cruzamento do fio para não ficarem "ligações" compridas no avesso. Obrigada!

Hi Rosa, I am from India so everyone around me are English style knitters, but it's not for me. Could you please show how to proceed after the purl row and turning your work? I am quite confused and can't find resources online. Would also appreciate help with adding more than two colours. Thank you!

How do you read the pattern from the reverse side? Como você lê o padrão do lado reverso?

Hi Dana, most patterns are written for non-portuguesa knitters so we are used to mentally translate them so that they make sense to us. Many stranded knitting motifs are horizontally symmetrical, so there is no need to reverse them.
