The Ricoh GR III comes preloaded with 11 pictures profiles, but the Positive Film effect seems to be the most well loved color profile amongst Ricoh shooters. I spent the week shooting Positive Film and I wanted to share a review of my thoughts and sample shots with you.

Your videos are a little different from the mainstream, which usually entails a lot of ego self-portrayal and gear drama. I like that, and the relaxed way you present as well es the philosophical hints make them interesting and easy to watch. Concerning the eggs: after boiling, put them in a bowl with cold water for a few minutes. Then peeling them will be a breeze. 😀🥚

Thanks Andreas, that means a lot. I'll have to try the cold water with the eggs, I've never heard of that before... It probably would have saved me an hour's worth of hand peeling shells one tiny piece at a time. 🤣

Very informative video! I personally really like the tone in the photos in this video. In fact so much that I hit the buy button for a GR IIIx 😀. Looking forward to experimenting more with it. Thanks for a good video and channel 👍

Would it be possible to create a recipe with the positive film from original GR/GR2 for the GR3?

Appreciate your thoughts on Positive Film. I've been trying to use it for the past month now and am running into the same dislikes, that being loss of detail in the shadows. I also feel like my photos are always underexposed when using multi-segment metering with Positive Film. I was really hoping this would be my go-to profile as I'm trying to maintain a cohesive look to my photos rather than using a coupe of different profiles. I'm going to try bumping up the contrast shadow setting within Positive Film and see what that does for me.

How much of the white balance do you adjust in-camera when using the positive film effect? From my experience it can make and break some shots

Interesting to see the results you got using the positive film setting. I'm also experimenting with this setting on my Ricoh GR3x. Have you tried altering the settings in the positive film setting? I can see the difference that saturation and hue make but I cant discern much difference when I alter the setting for clarity, sharpness or clarity. Like you I've noticed the uneven colour when shooting in bright conditions where part of the image is in shade.

Did you try adjusting the settings for the film effect? I saw a video on the Ricoh GR II and there's the ability to adjust sharpness, saturation, and one other thing but I forgot what it was

No, I didn't adjust any of the settings. I shot with the default Positive Film effect to test out the standard colors.

As much as I try to like it I just can't get on with positive film now I've had the GRIII for a week. It blows reds up almost to the point of being posterised while other colours really suffer. I've actually had more luck keeping the picture style set to standard and using things like WB fine tuning to create a look, it has the advantage of not blowing certain colour channels or banding blue skies too. Negative film seems the opposite, every colour is desaturated.

Hi, No I didn't adjust the Positive Film picture profile. I used the profile just as its built into the camera by Ricoh

I believe they can only be applied to a JPEG file.

You can shoot in RAW and then develop them in camera with the profile

Secret to peeling boiled eggs success. Make sure they are refrigerator cool. Hold them under cold tap water for a few seconds. They should peel much easier.
