It was the post offices responsibility to ensure that their contractors/suppliers provided supplies/services correctly. The postmasters dispute is with the post office (The government at the time) alone. The post office (the government) may subsequently have a claim against Fujitsu.

I don't think that they should be able to just buy their way out of it. They should face a trial and jail time. I also think it's disgusting that the taxpayer is going to pay the costs to the postmasters. Fujitsu might as a moral responsibility. What has happened is serious, it's psychopathic to gaslight people. Some people are dead, others' lives are ruined, and people actually went to jail. Only a trial and the risk of jail time will stop this disgusting abuse of power. Its not just the post office, its rife everywhere with people who hold power over others. If the taxpayer is paying the cost then there is no risk and nothing will change.

I’ve been keeping up with the enquiry and one thing is screaming for attention: there was very obviously a culture of dishonesty among the investigations teams at the post office. The legal team and investigators - even now - are extremely arrogant, dismissive and outright liars. Basically, thugs. If there aren’t custodial sentences for the legal, investigations and i.t. Post Office staff (and Fujitsu), there is something seriously wrong with the concept of justice in this country.

Disagreeing with some other comments, I would suggest that, utterly scandalous though this crisis is, it is the sign of a civilised society that this committee exists and that decent and fair-minded people are involved in its findings: Lord Arbuthnot, a key witness, has been a consistent defender of the victims throughout the last 20 years. This is a moment for the UK to affirm the vital importance of legal help for innocent people, and to never again be "a society with one rule and endless get-outs for executives, and quite another for the little people".

Given the way in which soldiers who had served in Northern Ireland have been prosecuted for actions that they allegedly took under very stressful conditions, I expect similar treatment of those lawyers, Post Office and Fujitsu personnel who so blatantly ignored facts purely for status and personal reward. Given the health issues suffered by the people on the receiving end, let's start with prosecutions under the Health and Safety at Work act 1974 and subordinate regulations: where are the documented Risks Assessments?

Fujitsu said the software is not in active development it’s just in place. Not possible, it must constantly be getting security patches etc. so he’s either lying or the software doesn’t meet the guidelines in the governments UK public sector privacy framework.

It shouldn’t be impossible to establish who have been rightly compensated. (If that’s the lame term) Again records should be documented! STOP DRAGGING THIS OUT FOR THESE POOR VICTIMS!!!!

Yes and both companies owned by the government and apparently the bankruptcies in both cases organised by the same firm of solicitors. Anthony Stansfeld will be talking about this next Tuesday in Parliament, Room 50, 12.30

@@hayleyb2254 Hello Hayley. Anthony Stansfeld is the former police and crime commissioner of Thames Valley police who jailed bankers in relation to banking fraud. Search 'Anthony Stansfeld ITNJ' to see him talk about this. He is a man of integrity and has been very supportive to me over the years in relation to probate fraud and the establishment that i have experienced (executors were a solicitor and an accountant). If you have not seen it, also search Lloyds and Noel Edmunds shareholder meeting - The bank was defrauding its own customers. Anthony Stansfeld sent me a report that he wrote and in it it said 'fraud is seen as a safe way to make money'. He also wrote in his recent email that the victims were left with no money to seek justice even in the most obvious cases. I bcc'd him into an email to my MP about the PO Scandal recently and he sent a short reply, writing that which i wrote above about the common threads of banking fraud and PO scandal (government owned, same solicitors in the bankruptcies and no one doing anything about it). He was invited to speak in Parliament on Tuesday 23rd, room 50, by Lord Prem Sika. I think it is 12.00

@@hayleyb2254 The other think AS mentions in the video that i referred to with him in was how judges always sided with the banks. This also happened, i understand, with the PO. This must surely put the 'independent' judiciary into strong question, for the protection of people.

To be fair,as someone seeing Britain from abroad, finding out about this scandal is just a reinforcement on how that country looks to many from aside i.e. kinda stuck in the past with its people thinking things are all fine (some would dare to claim they are even exceptional!) until...something horribly wrong surfaces up. In fact, I expect there will be further room to fall on things like living standards, international standing or cultural influence before things actually get better but will the latter happen in our lifetime, hard to tell.

The geezer sitting on the Ministers left, multiply his attitude by however many of his type are working on this, there's your red tape quagmire identified. Great stats, all to ensure that the victims couldn't possibly get a tad too much. That would never do.

Would it not be a good idea for Postmasters to get a ledger in which they can record each transaction made for the POL. I am aware this would be a big task but if they had written documentation that could then be checked against their electronic transactions to see if there was any discrepancies. I have been in a position where I have used ledgers to balance the daily transaction of the companies I worked for and only ever had a few shortfalls which were later explained. Big task I know but some background is needed. Either that or scrap the computer in the offices and go back to laborious manual system.

For Federal Crimes, in the US, the first party or parties, if there are a great number, can plead guilty to a very reduced sentence. They are required to be fully honest about their guilt and testify against the other members involved in the crime. Whistleblowers also get a great many protections and are rewarded monetarily. ( Except something happened with Boeing. 2 Whistleblowers have died, but it was framed as suicide. So we KNOW Boeing has serious problems and is responsible.)
