I thought the job title, _Chief Information_ Officer meant she'd have _information_ to hand. But no! Like virtually all the other POL employees, she can't recall that evidence of Horizon bugs crossing her desk year after year (or as she called them "faults") implied that _she,_ as head of the show should be seriously questioning the robustness of Horizon. Instead she palmed it off, like virtually all the other POL employees, as belonging to another dept., that she was busy with other stuff. And then broke into a gnashing of teeth and weeping of tears. She was an executive, apparently a grown-up woman with huge responsibilities and all we got was a dysfunctional memory and school hall stage emotion.

Having watched her entire evidence, I truly believe this poor lady was kept in the dark, then given the cold shoulder by POL. I do feel incredibly sorry for her. I’m sure she wouldn’t have taken the job in the beginning if she knew what a tangled web of deceit she was getting involved in - poor woman. Please don’t judge her on a few minutes viewing - watch her whole evidence and I’m sure you will see how distraught she is.
@judithmatthews8460
@judithmatthews8460 28 күн бұрын
I watched the whole evidence. She knew about remote access and did nothing. Even after she left the Post office she could have gone to the subpostmasters and told them what she knew. She didn’t. She said she knew nothing of the Misra case but she was in the email chain and knew Gareth Jenkins was a liar. She didn’t do anything about his evidence being crucial to the conviction. I think she knew and was too gutless to speak up. It would have taken huge courage and she doesn’t have it.

Painful to watch - and I stopped watching as she had repeated episodes - is sympathy appropriate? Because I stopped watching, I don't know; but not everyone at the Post Office will have been guilty of deception, neglect, or possible corruption - and if she was on the junior side, maybe she's getting the Flak which would be more deserved by others. So - a bit of charity might not come amiss: unless those lining up to criticize her know better (and maybe they do, but rush to judgement is never a great look).

I think that is the point, it's not for us to judge when we don't have all the documents and statements so are just seeing snapshots of information. It's up to the inquiry to decide what is true or not. If she was an honest person she may have tried to escalate and was stopped from above or people may have deliberately kept her in the dark. It happens in big businesses and there is no protection for whistleblowers and every likelihood you will be blocked from other jobs if you do whistle-blow and try to work elsewhere

A lot of commenters here might like to take a look in the mirror. Mindless abuse & denunciations of these witnesses are churlish, and contemptuous. They are also pointless, spiteful and little different from the supposed behaviour of those they seek to attack. It is quite clear that this inquiry is for many of those appearing a very difficult & traumatic experience. Facing the reality of their past actions is painful and difficult, even for those who would deny their own failings. It is likely that this experience is going to be more harrowing than any possible future court appearance.
