You are easily by far the most entertaining, enjoyable and easy to watch and listen to vlogger/reviewer I've come across. I have gone back 6 years to your first vids and started watching all from the beginning and love it. You also have much better editing then pretty much all other vloggers (Teapotone, The Missenden flyer, Baron Von Grumblle etc.) and your vids are always worth watching until the very end. With some of the others, I start falling asleep halfway through the video and then just give up. With you, I feel that they can be even longer and I would still want some more. Almost forgot, your singning as is acting is brilliant. Great work. Greetings from New Zealand.

Meltdown 🤪....We’ve all been there on tour... but you do need the bad days to appreciate the good days.... but preferably not on the last day! Great tour really enjoyed your honest fun commentary and it brought back fantastic memories of riding the NC500. Stay Safe hopefully we will all be biking again soon 😎

Ahhh the glorious roads of Germany. How I yearn to ride them when finally the wife and I can return to touring the continent. Not any time soon but we live in hope. I really enjoyed the 'Bru time' vid and podcast with Bruce the other week and like your style of presentation. Honest, unfettered filming that us riders out here can really relate to. The rant was hugely entertaining, thanks for sharing that....

Yer now a true biker!!! Well done mate for not giving up! Remember, your only a plum if you don't learn from mistakes. Coming from Northern Ireland, I learned about waterproofing early in my biking life. Before spending money on kit, the key is to research a lot. Marketing departments don't necessarily tell it like it is. But you did it. You got to the end of the journey in spite of the problems and you'll have a few stories to tell. Great stuff.

Oh, the frustration of "the universe versus I", think we've all had those moments :) As for map apps etc, Bruce appears to be enjoying the Calimoto app for his rides, might be worth pinging him a message. It’s all part of the experience, isn’t it! You can’t have that much gear and be that exposed without it coming at least partially unraveled at some point! 😅 I’ve briefly tried Calimoto and it seemed ok. But Hamburg really isn’t the place to try and generate ‚curvy routes‘. So be it wasn’t a fair test and i didn’t want to pay multiple times for all of the packages I’d need for this trip. Maybe should have just spent the dosh! I think I’ll try the Garmin again, but use it as more of an adviser than a prophet of the true way!

Sadist here. Basking in your misery! In all seriousness theres nothing more emotional than finishing a great tour. I came back from Norway to the UK for the last time and hit the depressing autobahns of Dennark and Germany. I tried to make the most if it via Ypres. Ended up going through exactly the same as you when I travelled through Antwerp. At least you can rant in your helmet to get it all out of your system! All the best Andy through this crap time.

Ha!!! Awesome ride! You sound like me but with a proper English accent! My wife enjoys making fun of me and graciously reminds me of my "first world problems" whenever that sort of intervention is necessary. Back in my early years of riding (throughout the 1980's), nothing was "waterproof". It was either leather or nylon but in all cases it was wet, cold and heavy which just made things miserable. I eventually learned the value of the smallest and strongest plastic bags I could find and a good quality rain suit. Everything of value would go in the plastic bag before it went in my backpack or tank bag. Looking back now 35 years later, the memory of the bad experiences have all but faded and I can honestly say that the times on my '84 FJ1100 and Virago were nothing but wonderful. Try to take a moment to realize that what you're doing is incredibly fortunate and very few people in this world have the opportunity to do so. I'm sure there are many of us tuned in who have been there/done that as well as millions of those who never will are thoroughly enjoying your experiences. Either way, it's a joy to watch, listen and learn and for me personally, the sparking of memories that I recall as being the best times of my life. Cheers.
@AndyManCam
@AndyManCam 3 жыл бұрын
There is simply no better waterproofing than a plastic bag! Cheap too! It's funny how we always romanticise the riding experiences the further into the past they were! I remember riding my KH100 for 6 hours from Ramsgate in Kent to get to Cambridge, where I took my full test. It was a beautiful freedom ride, loaded with possibilities and hope! In actual fact it was 6 of the most frustrating and uncomfortable hours of my life on a horrible bike that burned about 3 litres of oil and struggled to keep up with some cyclists! But it was the beginning and as such it was a heros tale! 🤣 Always happy to spark those memories though mate! Luckily most of the riding actually is amazing!

It appears you had a bit of tech challenge yourself there mate 😉 . Regarding wet riding it is awful and makes you wonder why even bother. This one time I was riding to Lucern, Switzerland from the UK to meet up with some friends. It rained all the way pretty much but I was surprised and very pleased to know that my gear was holding up ok. In the last 30 or so miles, we stopped to refuel so we were ready to go again in the morning etc. I was so keen to just get on with the last bit that I forgot to zip my jacket and the water proof all the way up after putting wallet away. Adrenaline high I was thinking “ not long now, beer, food etc until I felt the cold water running down my chest, jacket flapping about 🤬 ... still I loved almost everything about that trip ✌🏻

@@AndyManCam Just so you don't feel to bad: I was told by bikers near Dijon one summer that there was a major storm towards Geneva, when I could see very angry black clouds on the horizon I wetted up, riding in dayglo orange gear in 33 degrees heat, felt like a hot plonker. Unfortunately, if you want to be able to plan routes the only reliable way to go is a proper satnav. If you're not bothered about verbal commands ( I went without for 13yrs with my old satnav) you should maybe invest in a basic TomTom or Garmin (car based) and put it in a specific waterproof bike mount. As far as phone apps are concerned, I have discovered the TomTom 'Go' app. It is terrific and has transformed my 'ad-hoc' 'day out' trips. One can't set a route but that 'twisty route' option is brilliant. I had to use it for all of my Swiss/Italian trip last year when my old proper garmin Zumo failed on the first day. it did really well and saved the trip. i couldn't do all my 'planned routes' but it saved my holiday. There's also, 'fastest route', shortest route', 'avoid motorways' etc. It has literally transformed my motorcycling life. Every now and again it might want to take me down a slightly dodgy single track but you ignore those. It's a subscription service (£17 a year i think but totally worth it) Also, if you go for a TomTom GPS as a 'proper' satnav, it uses the same maps and interface so you won't get confused swapping from one to the other. Sorry you dropped your bike btw. That's always a bummer. I did my BMW boxer some years ago, replaced the damaged 'expensive' magnesium cam cover and then dropped it again two weeks later. Both at 1mph manouvers!

I’ve got a Garmin zumo but hated the basecamp Software and the power supply did some strange stuff. Turns out it was the Lesser of many evils so I’ll give it another chance!
@hollowaysteve
@hollowaysteve 4 жыл бұрын
Andy Man Cam I hated Basecamp too. It’s a bit convoluted but one can use googlemaps to make a route and then turn it into a GPX file and transfer it into the Garmin. You shall need a google developers account these days and they take your credit card details but you get about 200 uses a month before any charges are made so basically it’s free. There are KZfaq tutorials. Another option I believe will work is ‘myrouteapp.com’ . That is highly regarded in gos forums but I haven’t tried it yet. It was the cradle power supply that failed on me for my last trip. The Zumo still works but tbh after 13yrs it was time for a change. I got a great pre-Xmas deal on the TomTom 550 and once I got my head around it, it’s great. Shame it’ll be out of warrantee by the time we are allowed back on the road!
@AndyManCam
@AndyManCam 4 жыл бұрын
I’ve had problems with my cradle too. As a fallback, I’ve found that you can connect a USB power supply directly to keep it alive.

Hey Andy, Honestly you’re a better man than me. I would’ve stop recording after the rain, bad directions, narrow...say that again...narrow German roads, lose of a camera and did I mention the rain 🌧. I would’ve called it quits after the crappy cafe. I hope that your passport got away with minimal damage. Thanks for the walk around 👍. Can you do me a favour and explain the Scottoiler. How it’s mounted to your bike, how you fill it, what oil do you recommend, does the oil fling onto your swingarm and rim...?...etc...etc. I’ve heard of it on other videos but no one goes into the details of living with one...anyway just a suggestion. It also appears that being a motorcyclist in Germany is looked upon as being a second class citizen 👎 bummer. Thanks for your perseverance 👍🏍🌧🎥. As always looking forward to future videos. Stay well. Cheers.

There was a time when i probably would have just stopped the cameras but i guess now I’m too invested. Need to get something out of the experience and share the humor of it with the world! The scottoiler is mounted under the front seat and simply filled with a pipe and nozzle from the scottoiler oil bottle. Every couple of thousand miles, roughly. Sadly it does make a bit of a mess of the swingarm and back wheel but luckily it’s far easier to clean off than the goopy, sticky mess than the usual chain wax makes. The passport is all good cheers mate. Have successfully used it twice since the soaking! 😅
