the reason why the ending cutscene of the dude shooting up the school was removed in the redux version was because back then RWS thought it was a dark thing that would never happen, but nowadays its a sad, grim reality

Hatred is conveying it's story that is Not Important and isn't even remotely close to what Postal 1 is trying to convey

They refused to accept the reality that you're a serial killer in every game you play these days, (Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series for example, is a serial killer but people don't care because he has a "justification" for murdering) The Destiny series has you killing things left and right, shooting them until they're dead. People don't care, because there's a "justification". It's OK to commit genocide if you can reason with it?. People need to accept that they are playing a videogame. So with that said, Hatred's gameplay is FUN. It's a top-down shooter where you can hijack cars just like grand theft auto, crash it into houses, and it's difficult. It's a survival game with objectives and a story, which is pretty neat. Most survival games just stop at the, well, survival part. And like all videogames with a story, Hatred's story has an ending: - Now, let's discuss the ending: ENDING: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5-daqh8p9XKZps.html - What opened my eyes here is for a second, the guy being stabbed by a knife had a mindset that he would help this guy kill himself and thousands of others. For just a moment, he wanted the pain to stop and was actually considering setting off a nuke. What I realized is that the protagonist (or in this case, the antagonist) had the SAME mindset. The only difference is, the antagonist was TRAPPED in this mindset and unable to escape. The "common sense" factor never kicked in here. This makes me realize that we're all human. If we don't use common sense we're nothing but killing machines. It's why we have subconcious. It's why we enjoy playing games where you do nothing but murder thousands of people.. The ending above all else, justified the murders committed in the game, because it was opening the player's eyes that there is no justification for murder. It's only a fuel for your hatred. When was the last time you played a game you played where the ending is "If you kill the villain, you're just as bad as him"? People fail to realize that switch happened a long time ago. - Good game, good gameplay, good moral. We barely see videogames that touch these topics. Props to the devs for sticking to their guns and making a fun game out of it, too. Is it the best game you'll ever play? No. Is it a breath of fresh air in the current gaming media of mediocity? f*** yes. 7/10

Hatred tried to stir up the same controversy Postal did in its day but the discourse moved on from it after only a month. I don't think it's that everything has gotten PG, I think most people just realized that making a controversy out of something created to stir up controversy is a waste of time and moved on to better things. Video games are also no longer viewed by the general public as toys for children, which is why modern violent games don't gather so much negative attention. Basically the world became a slightly better place since then.

On one hand its edgy because of the sake of satire and edge, on the other hand its VERY well crafted and has a rather extensive narrative outside of the game (if you read the manual) and it was more of a psychological thriller. The dude was flatout insane and was a paranoid schizophrenic who snapped after seeing some conspiracy theory about the military tampering with the water supply turning people into sleeper cells. So in his mind its "kill or be killed" but what we see is him making edgy quotes as a demon (because thats what RWS intended originally for the media to see as part of the satire of games being demonic and violent). Its like if Dungeons and Dragons made a module in the 80s dedicated to worshiping satan and murdering random people for laughs. It's edgy but it made sense to show how ridiculous someone is by being that ridiculous and making them realize you were quite tame to begin with lol.

I will, but I'd definitely check out Gman's review and Civvie's pro series to get a good idea of what it's all about

Definitely. The lack of music was a huge benefit to the atmosphere. Having the only sounds you hear being gunshots and your victims screaming really forces you to take in the gravity of what you are doing. Also, the character you control may not hurt children, but it isn't even a case of him choosing not crossing the line that every normal person has. He *tries* to hurt them, but is unable. So even that one instance of humanity can't be considered a decent action by him.

Thats the thing, the literal meaning of the word is something that it tests the boundaries of social norms and conventions. However, I cant tell if people here are going by its literal meaning or the slang meaning.
