if we happened to be in the garden ours would just hand them over the fence.. we've known him for over 20 years and he knows us, in fact, he knows everybody on our street,he always gets a Christmas card from us with a small gift inside and from the rest of the neighbours

I love the, "Go on," at the end. I concur with Tony here. I have been in front of my house at different times and mail carriers or delivery people have wanted to give me stuff. No thanks. Just put it in the box or leave it outside. You are mere steps from completing your appointed task. Please don't give it to me.

As a postie who delivers mail and parcels, I always ask if they want me to post it or they want to take it. Usually it's due to neighbours talking in their front garden with their front door open so it'd seem weird to go past them, up their path, then leave it on the floor - unless of course they want me to!

@@nmm3481 This was more of an issue for me when I smoked. There I was standing out front smoking and here is the mail carrier. Naturally if you hadn't guessed it's also a matter of being anti-social. A lot of us have become terribly anti-social and want to avoid human contact as much as possible.
