Watch me battle with a super overgrown rabbit foot fern!

If a plant is that hard to dislodge, for what little clay pots cost or unless its a huge designer pot, it's often better to break the pot instead of risking damage to the plant. And rinsing off the soil from the roots with a garden hose is safer and easier than digging the root ball apart. I've never had a problem with that.

I would have break that pot to open it

for super rootbound plants I use a cheap flexible bread knife run around the inside of the pot. Works like a charm! Thanks for the video!
@u1es Жыл бұрын
I usually wash out the soil with a hose pipe first. It makes it a lot easier to remove rootbound plants without damaging the roots.

Next time soak the soil before tearing away at the roots. It was hard to watch that part haha. When you soak the soil after pulling it out of the pot it helps the plant from going into too much shock and helps the roots loosen up as well as the soil! Just an FYI for next time. Glad you care for your plant though!

This fern is easy to cultivate. It is so beautiful! I think plants feel it if you love them and they flourish!

My mother pulled hers out and used a knife to divide it into more plants. Cur right through the middle. I have mine in a hanging basket.

I’ve heard of people just cutting the roots and the plants doing fine. Sounds counterintuitive but seems to work for some
@delhog61616 күн бұрын
The roots on the bottom of the pot were holding the plant in the pot. if you had removed them and pushed a stick up through the hole in the pot you would have found the plant would have come out easier.

I have one in a hanging basket that’s about 7 yrs old.... it’s extremely root bound.... the roots are all around the outside of the basket.... I’m about to give this a try. Not sure if I want to repot in a larger basket or a pot. Being in the hanging basket has been quite a conversation piece.

If anyone is ever in a repot crunch like this use a old chop stick from takeout and do the outer edge to loosen all the way around or just hammer the pot. I took on a monster of a repot like this once myself. Its a beastly of a job lol.

👏Beautiful plant, ❤ ferns. I have a philodendron in the biggest pot I can find this reminds me of what u had to do. Watering can help maybe a few hours before. Break the pot maybe mine is plastic so I couldn’t. That’s a really pretty fern I hope it’s doing well. Do you sell any fern clippings and or do you have a button fern? Thank you so much for this video & I’m not being critical people, just trying to help. 🫶

Ii think it is better first to make moist and squeeze around the pot and will come out easily.

these ferns are ericaceous and dont need alot of feeding, they can grow on lava rock or in orchid bark, in their natural habitat their furry roots climb trees and rocks, they like to be very damp and their roots crawl around to find moisture

Why don't you believe in stones at the bottom anymore?
@saffronsgarden47953 жыл бұрын
The goal is to have well draining soil throughout your pot, having stones at the bottom just pools the water and can lead to root rot
@alexfil20642 жыл бұрын
I started watching your video. Such a fuss!Why didn’t you just brake the pot???

@ethandenham7553 жыл бұрын
That would work but it would be a waste of a pot she could reuse if she could get the plant out without killing it😊

It’s a pot I got from my mom who passed away. I was sentimental about it. If it had been a plastic pot I might have cut it open, but terracotta is quite expensive in South Africa
@leesagrrl11 ай бұрын
4:42 I usually push a finger down into the drainage hole on the bottom of the pot from the outside as I try to pull the plant out. Sometimes it works. : ) Did the plant survive?
