old clip from back in 2021 just after the covid pandemic where the airport was a lot quieter. this was a small turn around of a 737-800 with pushback and headset at the end

Hey Ramper Ryan do you mind me asking do I need to go on a college course to become a Ramp Agent or can I leave Secondary and go straight to becoming a Ground Handler?

Depends on the company, generally you don't need to go to college and need a driving license

You dont need any college or university degree to do this. Just have very good decision making skills and apply and show you have what it takes to do the role

Depends what gears you use. But we dont want to test that out. We push at a safe speed for the aircraft crew and passengers

Don’t think it was a spark. To me it looked like a puff of smoke from when the fuel was injected into the engine (which is normal) that passed in between the camera and the red beacon light on the belly of the aircraft. The red beacon light only flash intermittently so it made the smoke look red for an instant and may have seemed like sparks. You are suppose to see the beacon light a lot more, but either there is something wrong with the light or it’s the camera that is recording with too few frames per second to pick it up properly.

I joined the railway 40 years ago. In comparison to where the wages are now it was poorly paid. True money pays bills but I'd not change my career choice even with a low wage as I got the job I wanted and still enjoy.

The big cable they connect in the beginning? It’s ground power. When the engines run they produce the electricity for the aircraft. But at Gatwick they don’t allow the ground crew to approach and connect the power while the engines are running. So the pilots start a small turbine engine in the tail called a APU to produce electricity so they can shut down both engines and the ground crew can approach and connect the ground power. When the aircraft eventually is powered by the ground they can shut down the APU again. We would prefer to not have to start the APU, but the UK are not very common sense when it comes to their procedures so we have to do it this way.
