For any non midwesteners, this is exactly how she goes. You pick something up, and some old guy says something like in the video. Then ya gotta hear the whole story because walking away would be rude. Then you walk outside, and it's dark out because you've been in the store for hours. You also picked up a ton of stuff you didn't really need, but you picked it up anyway. If you are in a hurry, avoid the old guy. Or shop late at night. 😅

This was hell as a kid with ADHD and an anxiety disorder. We'd spend upwards of an hour, not exaggerating, just standing around in one spot talking to someone we'd never seen before in the middle of an isle. Even had to cancel plans made weeks in advance a few times just because once my dad started talking to a stranger, no amount of rationalization could get him to stop. You'd have to have a literal heart attack for him to take it seriously, but even then I had a few fully fledged anxiety attacks that he just flat out ignored so I'm still not convinced he'd have cared.

This is why most sons eventually learn to say "I'll go grab it and meet you up front" then walking away before any objections.

Hahaha I’m 1000 miles away in eastern Tennessee but the convo with the older gentleman was so relatable. You can’t run into a stranger and not have a 20 minute conversation.

Looking for gear and exchanging fish stories. Walking to the line isle and getting a replacement running sail line and exchanging fun or scary windy day stories. Going from there to the barbecue area and talking about the best grill out you’ve ever had. Finishing off by going through the hunting section and talking with another person about close encounters with wildlife. Dads really are a jack of all trades and those were all items on the list
