you guys in the comments are underestimating how difficult it can be to learn a language. yes, the pronunciation isn’t the best, but that’s the process of learning right?its the same when people try to learn english, it can be difficult. they’re not using google translate 24/7 just respect the fact they are trying to learn another language instead of bashing them.

Commonly, Chinese people are very lenient and welcoming towards any foreigner who tries to learn the language. Even if you manage a "ni hao" they will still applaud you and say your pronunciation is excellent. On the flip side, Chinese or Asian Americans are often judged harshly for not being able to speak flawless Chinese, since it is "expected of them". Because of this attitude, I actually see no problem with the white girls' Chinese. They tried their best, and they're learning one of the hardest languages in the world; I think they should be applauded just for that. I do think that the original video of the mean girl didn't have good pronunciation though.
@pignk
@pignk 3 жыл бұрын
I think I sorta get what ur saying. I agree I thought the white girls pronunciation was actually pretty neat, they obviously tried and did well. But the mean girl’s pronunciation... a lil stiff I think.

I remember when i was like 8 or 9, me and my family were just leaving a resturaunt after eating and we saw a chinese couple (middle aged, and Chinese were rlly fascinating to see and find at the time) My mom encouraged me to say "ni hao" and they actually seemed rlly proud and clapped,I dont think I felt more proud of myself ever before that. They were so friendly and nice, they even became friends with my parents and im pretty sure they still communicate.

that's true, but we gotta remember that its not her fault. i speak and write mandarin fluently, and i have went to school in China with no problems. but many other chinese living abroad are not taught the language. i don't know how to speak my native dialect (fujianese) but i do try. thats why i think that it would make more sense to think of chinese americans as foreigners. we shouldn't expect to see flawless chinese but rather be surprised if that is so. i hope this makes sense

For everyone bashing on the pronunciation of the people who are featured in this video, Chinese is an extremely hard language to learn. The tones and annotation are all very hard to nail without complete immersion in the culture, speaking it day by day, all the time. I’ve been learning Chinese (as an Asian) for 9 years, and my pronunciation is still a bit skewed. Not to mention that Chinese people will tend to have accents depending on the place. And just being able to fluently speak another language is amazing! Just please be nice to these people and recognise how hard it is to learn another language.

Actually the girls that don’t speak mandarin natively and learnt it are already quite good, maybe with some more practice and learning, they can speak simple sentences already and communicate with others. However when we speak mandarin, the phrases might differ in consideration to the context of the conversation. For example. Phrases can be shortened or have more words added to it to make it sound grammatically correct or for it to sound better. Sometimes there are also different ways of saying the same thing for example: 5:33 or we can also say: “早安 (good morning)” OR “早 (morning)” it’s a more informal way of saying good morning, kinda like greeting your friends in the morning. Another good example is at 5:37 where the girl says ”没有” It can mean two different things. 1. “没有 ([someone/something] doesn’t have [usually someone/something]) in the context of saying that you don’t or someone doesn’t have something. 2. “没有” Qn: “你有没有(东西) (do you have (something)?” Ans: “没有 (no/ I don’t have it)” in the context of answering a question, asking you if you had something which you reply that you don’t. 5:40 For anyone who is interested in learning the language, when we’re trying to redirect the insult back at them like the girl here, we don’t really say: “不,你” because it sounds weird but it isn’t somewhat incorrect either if you say it in a certain tone which might work better but the girl says it too fast which makes it sound weird. (Not blaming or criticising her or anything) For example, the conversation at 5:40 goes: “啊好烦啊” (how annoying)” I would reply: “你也烦 (you’re annoying too)” / “你最烦 (you’re the most annoying)” / “你更烦 (You’re more annoying)” Or you can also say “不是我,是你 (Not me, it’s you)” 5:56 Again, not trying to criticise anyone but we usually say: “你说谎 (you’re lying)” Hope I did manage to help clear any misconceptions about the language whether you’re interested in learning it or not. (You can ask me questions in the comments about the language if you’re still curious)

I know it's disturbing and disgusting when you hear words or sentences being pronounced and I know how you feel since I am bilingual as well but that doesn't really mean you should diss them. It's hard learning another language you don't know and if this trend is only for the people who speak mandarin then it wouldn't be that big of a trend since it would only be for people who speak mandarin. As a Chinese, it doesn't bother me that some of them aren't pronouncing as fluently. At least they have the confidence to say what they want to say. After all, you learn better and much more efficiently when you make mistakes so you know where to improve. 你们有些真是太过分了吧。记住,你想该什么就该什么只要他对你生活有利。继续前进!

When someone speaks English in a thick accent, it’d be rude to make fun of them for it, wouldn’t it? Especially if they didn’t grow up speaking English and had to learn it themselves. What difference does it make with any other language? Making fun of someone’s accent when they’re speaking Chinese is pretty rude, especially if they’re still learning. We get it, you can speak Chinese fluently, but that doesn’t give you any right to be so condescending and act superior. If you really want to point out their pronunciation, be constructive and actually helpful, not an asshole.

As a Chinese, you can learn Mandarin but it's okay if you get the wrong pronounciation, you can improve it because my pronounciation in Chinese is not very good too and also Chinese is a language that is very hard to learn.

I do kinda admit, learning Chinese is hard and I'm a shame of myself. Being Chinese myself, my mother and my father are forcing(not really) me and my siblings to speak chinese but we don't really use Chinese often so we forgot some words. We still learning though, it's kinda a bit stressful when your father and mother is mad when you can't speak chinese even though we already learn it for years. Anyways sorry for the bad grammar. Yeo, very accurate. Although, speaking honestly, the girl evryone is dueting has bad pronounciation. I think she was raised in the US so her pronounciation isn't as good. You can hear the not accurate pronounciation when she says "xie xie" she pronounces it as "shie shie"

The problem isn’t her pronunciation, it’s her not being a Chinese person but making negative stereotypes about Chinese students, if you go to China many people think this is very bad.clearly she is not Chinese, there is no reason for her to speak in that accent in school, because logically if Chinese isn’t her native language, she should respond in English. She can do videos speaking Chinese, not acting like Chinese
