I don’t think that’s what happened here at all. Alireza played very accurately up to and including the knight sac, he just got the move order wrong after that, and either forgot or didn’t know he needed to push d5 before going Qa4+ to keep the attack going. Vidit played an extremely precise defence under tremendous pressure so massive kudos to him.

Alireza seems to lack discipline to someday become a world champ. Even in the last candidates he flew off the handle after a loss and played a whole lot of bullet games instead of focusing on the next game. Vidit on the other hand seems to have put in hard work, improved his discipline, taken to meditation and has improved his game. Magnus has very few draws just like Alireza. But the similarity ends there as he has very few losses and mostly wins.

@ClarkPotter
@ClarkPotter 7 ай бұрын
Yup. You see this freq in young, strong, SuperGMs. They discover their swashbuckling ways that got them to this point don't work reliably anymore, and that they have to instead up their opening and endgame acumen when they can no longer rely on raw talent for success. As a spectator, I enjoy when they're in this phase and still try to play like they always have, and aren't just playing for prep draws with black.

@@ndnd7614 the strange thing is that he played the quiet queen move correctly and this falsely led me to believe that he actually calculated d5 push follow-up. @mehmet_theeng

@@fouadmouhib8840 that makes sense but if you cannot remember the line, why bother making a sacrifice in the first place ? Alireza will lose a lot of rating points if he continues to play like that. Sometimes it is enough to get a draw and wait for the top seed to lose points, to get second in many tournaments is better than winning one tournament and the rest of the tournments you end up 4th or 5th. This is ridiculous how is trying to force wins out of draws in such a desperate way

6:10 I personally feel that a "king march" is the forced moving of your king, as if he were held captive and ordered to march a long and painful path under the pressure of the enemy, similar to a death march. A "king walk", on the other hand, would be as if he were taking a calm walk through his 'kingdom', comfortably strolling between the safety of his pieces; it would be much more leisurely than a march.
@qasimzulfikar8749
