I finally try out a Powell flight deck. In an industry where not much has changed it's great to see some innovation.

I'm amazed the flight deck came in weighing almost the same as a normal deck. My flight deck feels so much lighter than a normal deck, but I am pretty sensitive to a missing a gram ;)
@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 4 жыл бұрын
I feel it is perhaps incorrect, as my Flight deck is 8.45" and _much_ lighter than my other 7.76" board which is a 7 ply freestyle board. And the flight decks are 5-plies total, not 7. They haven't added extreme layers of carbon IMHO. I would also say these boards _are stiff_ . It is why it pops higher, which it really does with a snappy pop using ankles properly. Concave is medium but probably only a problem to those who ride steep concave boards only.
@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 4 жыл бұрын
I have been riding an 8.0" Flight deck for a few weeks now and that one is even lighter. Thing is, with trucks and wheels being the weight that matters most to a skater, I doubt people will care either way. I have Tensor Mag Lite TENs on my Flight decks making them a pretty lightweight setup overall, but it still ollies and spins like any other board. And I have been riding in windy conditions.

Yea man, my 9.13” Andy Anderson flight set up feels way lighter than my 8.75” 7-ply Ripper deck. Same trucks and wheels too. I might just be trying to convince myself that the price I paid is worth it lol, but it feels amazing regardless and I love how they keep their pop so long. Whether they are lighter or not, they are so worth it.

Yeah its like the enjoi or almost impact light decks with carbon fibre inserts.... and the almost über light decks. You can tell instantly it is way lighter and stiffer. Last 3 times as long too.

Hey Ben, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I very much appreciate both your skating and construction videos. I’m both a carpenter and a skater as well and have seen dozens and dozens of your videos and they are never a waste of time. You explain and help me to understand things In a clear concise way that I can easily wrap my head around. So thank you for that. Maybe you’ve already done a video explaining this and can just send a link, but if not, I wanted to ask you. After riding all these different decks and doing so many reviews, what deck in particular do you find yourself always coming back to? Do you have a favorite? Or maybe a few favorites that you like best for different reasons. May not be an easy question but I’d like to know as I trust your judgement and opinions.

Just a recommendation for skating mellower tails. What gave me the taste for mellower tails was this. I would place my backfoot not on the very end of the tail when popping like I used to. I placed it more in the middle or towards the truck, it gives you more pop! And it allowed me to jump higher with my body while popping. Gave me more control as well. I saw that foot placement from watching some pros. A lot of pros do this.

I know this is old, but as a mellow deck lover, I agree with this completely
@mstunameow
@mstunameow Жыл бұрын
Great tip! I think it just depends on what feels good for you, bc a lottttt of people say the opposite, move your foot to the edge of the tail. That actually makes sense to me, because ollies are a lever mechanic, the easier you can pop your board vertical, the higher your front foot can establish the fulcrum point. For me it is easier to pop the board vertical with my foot more on the edge of the tail, but the way tails work, I think you can really do it anywhere and make it work. Popping the way you say sounds like it feels really good when you get it

I skate a Flight K242 Shape and have access to K247 (same width, pointier nose and tail, same concave and feel). The K247 is lighter per a few grams and there is very little difference in the actual feel of the board, with are both equipped with tensor maglight regular 5.25 trucks and 50mm wheels (95A and 83B). I had to get used to them to make them pop really good, took me a few sessions, but that might just be me. I found out that my k242 is about 50 grams heavier than a very similar sized and shaped 7ply maple deck, i could also weigh a 70g difference between the K243 deck (8.25) and a similar shaped, but slightly longer mullen deck from almost, and i mean 70g more weight of the considerably thinner flight deck. I like the stiffness and flexiness, which is explained in a very good way in your video.

having skated lib tech and an impact support deck I feel this would be worth the money. I'm creating a website and your information has made me think outside the box in terms of technology and specs. Lib tech makes a great design but can cause splinters if you smash the nose or tail up. I've snapped an impact support in one day which was discouraging. This is a technology I'm seriously considering as I don't skate as much as I used to.

What would you say is better/more durable and has the best pop. Real or Flip decks? I've broken a few Real boards but that's because I'm a bit of a burly boy.

Sorry about this question, but I'm considering buying a deck as a gift and not being skater I honestly don't know if Powell-Peralta Skateboard Flight Deck (8.45" - Andy Heron Skull) deck is better or same with Powell Peralta Flight McClain Tiger Shape 24 8.25 Skateboard Deck? I understand it's different size, but skater to whome this gift is intended said that he likes anything from 8.25 to 8.5, being a 195cm tall with US11 shoe size. Can anyone tell me which one would be a better choice? He uses skateboard mostly for street and ocassionally park tricks.

29 years old, picked up skating again a year and half ago after getting burned out, man if that was a good decision! I'm considering getting a flight deck but I am a little hesitant. It seem to me that thought the flight decks don't snap/break easily (which isn't my problem, I'm a very light dude) it seems that they still razor tail and chip away just as easily as a normal 7-ply deck, is that correct? I spend most of my time practicing flip tricks, so I was hoping that a flight deck might allow me to do so longer before having to switch board, but it seems like this type of board is most beneficial for people who frequently snap their boards. Would love to hear your thoughts on this! :)
