We're adding an under-hood generator to the shop F-250. Then, we take a look at an '55 F-100 that extends itself. Yup, you read that right. Finally, it's tips on how to get the most out of your cargo space without pulling the cap off.

I was thinking the same thing. Why not just buy a portable gas 3 phase V twin on wheels that does 13kva and cost 1/3rd the price? LOL.

@@king0cans I can hardly imagine the belt being able to cope too. Look at the puny size of it. That stupid belt generator thing reminds me of those Japanese inventions that are intentionally humorous and intentionally excessively complex to do simple tasks like scratch your back or blow cool air on your face. BTW I forgot to mention a portable 3 phase 13kva gennie is enough power for an arc to weld structural steel on a damn bridge LOL.

Wonder how much the company paid for this. Probably enough to go broke before they sold 5 units and they were probably the prototypes

@@ThePaulv12 It's still awful but the belt would have no problem powering 5kw. That's less than 10hp. Not much more than a big alternator and the A/C compressor at the same time. Would have made far more sense at the time to add a second alternator like they do for ambulances and a 5KW inverter that would have been smaller than the control box for that stupid thing. And they totally ruined the bed with that friggin outlet. OMG!

The generator is a great addition to a contractor’s truck ✊🏾 Can the under-hood generator be installed onto any engine?

I think these are in a lot of the newer police interceptors because of all the electronics they have, along with, especially K-9 units needing to be able to run air conditioning for long hours.

I want one of those, but why does the technician need to do anything? We really can't turn a motor without software? I'm going to find a way to do this with mechanical parts that don't rely on software or a technician who is so special that he can make it happen for the right price.

Wtf? I'm not putting that big ol dick generator on my truck and cut and mod all that shit under the hood, ill just carry a Honda generator with me that uses a gallon of gas every 2 hours that's what generators are for. Yea I'm really gonna run a v10 all day to run my power tools.

This is so laughably ridiculous, even for 20 years ago. I have a 20 year old pickup with a 4500w inverter generator mounted under the bed that will run all day on a gallon of gas and cost less than $1000 total!
@truthsmiles
@truthsmiles 10 ай бұрын
Yeah I have an extra 5kw generator and was wondering how feasible it would be to take it apart and somehow mount it in the engine with an AC clutch to drive it, which led me to this video. I'd love to have the power on a job site without needing to haul and move a portable unit (or risk having it stolen when I run into Home Depot). But honestly your idea is the best. My truck already runs on gasoline too, so it seems feasible to get rid of the separate fuel tank for the generator as well.
@ryanroberts1104
@ryanroberts1104 10 ай бұрын
@@truthsmiles Yeah, they can get pretty small once you remove the gas tank and frame, you can also move the muffler if needed. I just bought a 4500w inverter generator and took off all the extra stuff. Fits completely under the bed without hanging down! Inverter generators are easier to fit because the generator part is mounted on the flywheel and nothing is mounted to the crankshaft output, making them super compact. Back in the 70s Ford used to offer an Onan engine/generator under the hood as optional, but for some reason it wasn't that popular.
