Nathalie inspired me to start writing again. So this is my poem: What if I stopped? Just for one day, was completely, 100% myself. Made every corny joke that popped in my head. Stopped agreeing with everything everyone said. What if I tried? Tried to jump a little higher than the rest. Made an effort to love myself. What if I. What if I, didn’t care. Didn’t care what they thought. Didn’t care what they said. Was comfortable with myself. What do you think would happen? Would the world stop and stare? Would I be judged, get laughed at? What am I so afraid of? What is holding me back? Why can she, he, they, but I can’t? Why should I be quiet? Why should I look at my shoes? Why do I have to take a step back? So they can shine? Well today I choose. I choose to be happy. I choose me. From now on, the only friends allowed in my life. No any person allowed in my life, are people who lift me up. From now on, you need to deserve my respect. I will not give you any time or effort if you make me feel bad about myself. Your comments won’t hurt me anymore. Because child I have made a choice. Whatever made me this way, whatever voice I hear in my head. I will shut it down. It is my time to take over. My turn to steer. So today I will stop. Stop the hurt, stop the pain, and stop the tears. For once in my life, I will be real. - Meron

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, SoulPancake. If you're going to do this, please interview an array of women, because many of us have different stories of struggle in this world, especially because of our religion or race or sexual orientation or identity (transgender women), because a lot of those factors contribute to who we are. That would be a GREAT way of helping.

That's really not the point of these videos, is it? It's about being a woman compared to being a man and is restricted to a specific demographic (US middle class women). Religion, race, sexual orientation have nothing to do there, although they are really vast and interesting topic and the questions asked by this show apply. As for identity/gender such as transgender woman, it' actually the same topic, just as asking this question to men would be the same topic, it's just not what they're aiming for here. They are not trying to talk about everything and every situation. Just womanhood. That's a large enough topic.
@cynfinite
@cynfinite 10 жыл бұрын
captainfogg That's where you're wrong. Women as a whole may go through sexual assault, cat calling, and so on so forth. But a Muslim woman gets shame for how she dresses. A black woman gets shame for embracing her enjoyment of sex. A crippled women is overlooked as someone who can take care of herself. A lesbian is told day by day by men that with their penis, they can turn them straight again. A transgender woman is molested and beat-up because of her operation. This series has to speak to ALL women, because when they say WOMEN, it's GENERAL. It's not specific. There are more trials and tribulations that engulf women who don't fit the "norm," than women who do. So PLEASE do not tell me it has NOTHING to do there, nor tell me what they have already is a LARGE ENOUGH topic. You have NO idea how small they're topic is right now, because the amount of emotional and physical damage that ALL women, from all different crosses of the Earth, go through, can be addressed and can help those women, which is the aim of this show.
@macgodinez8334
@macgodinez8334 10 жыл бұрын
captainfogg "Just womanhood. That's a large enough topic." So if you're not white, middle-class, heterosexual/cisgender, and able-bodied you extend beyond the ranges of womanhood? That's awfully specific.

but what is deeper than the fear? perhaps the fear of death is the deeper fear and once we come in alignment with the inevitable then other things will also be released: purpose, courage, meaning.... and basically all those fears are simply sensations. we can either tap them away as in EFT or see them as EXCITEMENT since fear and excitement are the similar sensations but our mind is the one that is using its interpretation. thanks fr this film!!!! wooohooo!

I may not be a female, but damn this is so perfect. I absolutely love the idea of a lovely lady taking on the world with out people of my gender, or even their gender, holding them back or telling them they can't do anything! I wish that everyone my age could understand this and have a voice about this as well. I hope the world I leave behind for my kids and grand kids will provide them with every opportunity with equal rights for every gender.

I am male. And the poem spoke to me deeply. I don't see it as a gender inequality issue. It's an issue of inequality as human beings. The issue is seeing the person underneath the skin...because beauty is indeed only skin deep.

I really liked that quote halfway through, because that's how I try to view people. I don't know enough about the world to say "all women/men are like this", or to say that that statement is incorrect. What I do know though is that every human being on this planet is a human being, and deserves to be seen as who they are. I try not to think "oh, they're X,Y and Z and therefore they are A, B and C", it's better to figure out whether they are A, B and C by simply seeing whether they act like that, not whether they look like other people who act like that. I think my thoughts have been a bit higglety-pigglety, but that's the way I, a male teenager, try and view people. And that's why I like the quote.

I love Natalie. Her words inspire me and make me feel worthy of being me in this time that I'm in. People are trying to help and people hurt... and I am doing both. I really look foreward to these every week because they always help me with my day or week. I don't fight. Fighting never solves anything. I just believe. No matter how small or weak or worthless I feel, I know that there is a way out, even if I don't acknowledge it at that moment. I know that there is something is out there for me to do in the world. Some people say to start when you're young. Some people say things take time. If I try to start now, I'd have to quite public school and homeschool while working on my dream of singing and writing and art in general. But if I wait to take the plunge into my carrier, I might miss my chance and it would be too late for me to do anything about it, and I'd have to wait for next year or ten years. But no matter how long it takes, I will be know for what I do because now... I am a singer. I am a writer. I am an artist. I just haven't put myself out there for the world to see. I want people to know who I am and why I'm here. I want people to see thing that they never knew could come from a 15 year old "little girl." Sometimes I'm treated like a kid and that what I say has no use in the world because people think I don't know what I'm talking about, or they don't know what I'm talking about. Sometimes I'm treated like an adult and people think I'm taking everything more seriously than I think is needed. I am not a child. I am not an adult. I am an adolescent. And that means that I am inbetween. And I intend to be taken seriously when needed, and I need a break from stress and need to be taken in a fun and childish manner when need be. I am a girl. I am a teenager. I am useful. I am still child-like. But I am progressing to be an adult. And I do wish to be taken as a 15 year old. Not any older. Not any younger. The way I act depends on my mood. But the way you treat someone depends on YOU.

Thanks for sharing the conversation. Just to be clear, assertive boys are also sometimes labelled bossy and it can also be damaging to them. (happened to me) I think the part from later in the conversation about whether you are kicking down people's ladders or helping them up applies. It's time to ditch labels. I'm not even a fan of "positive" labels, because those can also be damaging and make a person feel like they are limited to the scope of that label without taking into account all the other aspects of their humanity. I like the NVC model for showing appreciation: say what you observed a person did, share how it made you feel, and talk about the value that's important to you which their action supported.

My Music Major has been an uphill battle, not because of men, but because of the competition with other women. And the only way I'm staying afloat is by trying to better myself, not make myself better than another person. I'm extremely emotional when it comes to my friends, my art, and stress. If I feel like tearing up, I will, and so what if people think that I'm weak? A bit of a sob story? When I'm on stage, I will fight to show them that I'm anything but.

It's interesting, whenever I find myself standing up for something I believe in, whether it be a friend, equality, or something of the sort, my voice gets so much deeper. Because I am just 13, 4'11'', and a girl, I fear that I will not be taken seriously. Sometimes I wish that I could take a different form to get a point across, but then I think again. What makes my words so strong is that they are coming from me. They often surprise the offender. They will see me as weak and feeble until they heard me speak logic, far beyond my years, and appearance.
