Wow Soulpancake. Wonderful idea. Beautiful women. Natalie Patterson; I love your poem so much. You, gorgeous lady, have a rare and beautiful talent. Thank you so much for sharing. To the gentlemen leaving snide, complaining and fault-finding comments about this being directed at women and not men; please leave us ladies alone, please leave the women in this video alone, please leave the makers of this video alone. You want to talk about men and body-image? THEN DO IT. Get a roundtable discussion rolling. Write articles. Blog. Vlog. Podcast. Whatever! But please don't leave stuff like that on our videos and discussions. Thank you.

I am 14 years old and it's sad that I already feel fat, ugly, unloved, etc. It really is sad. I shouldn't be worried about my weight or appearance, I should be having fun, going to parties, worrying if I'll get my homework done before Monday morning, etc. I do hate feeling this way... I never really feel beautiful. I pick at my flaws almost daily and I hate that I do that. I wont even allow people to give me piggy back rides because I'm scared that I'll snap their back. I hate sitting on peoples lap because I'm scared they will make a comment about how heavy I am, etc. I struggled with an eating disorder and am going back to my old habits slowly. I hate it. It's the worst and I don't want to go back but it is overcoming me... Watching this video made me realize that, we were made the way we were made. We shouldn't pick at our flaws like they are scabs, we should be out in our bathing suits, not trying to suck in our stomachs, and have fun! I'm gonna try to get better and I hope I will. For me this video meant a lot to me because it helped me realize that I shouldn't worry how much I weigh or how I look. I should be having fun! If anyone, and I mean anyone, needs to talk, message me and I will answer asap. :) I'm here to help out or just listen

Natalie's poem is amazing ! It should be published and shared. So powerful. Go Natalie. I remember reading an interview with Cindy Crawford years ago. She said, I don't even look like Cindy Crawford. I have seen photos of actors with & without make up , hair all styled or everyday look, wearing the latest fashion or sweats. They look like regular real women. I wear no make up at home. If I go for a walk I just put on tinted lip gloss. For running errands I will add a bit of mascara. I will only do myself up a bit more for a special occasion. It is really liberating. There is something to be said about getting older ( I will soon be 60 ). We are all beautiful !

That poem got me in tears. I can't even comprehend. That was so beautiful and inspires me to call myself beautiful more often. And to except me for me and no one can tell me different. I always thought guys in high school don't like me cause I'm bigger but this reminds me that I shouldn't care if I don't have a date to the dance or a boyfriend. Thank you Natalie I'll keep that poem with me forever until it becomes a routine in my head to look myself in the mirror and say, "you know what I am beautiful."

I really like this. Its nice to see that they included that skinny girls can want to be curvy. Im a relatively thin girl and it hurts when someone calls me a "stick" or makes fun of my boobs. I wish i had curves. I wish i didnt have "the body of a 12 year old boy". People dont realize that how insulting that is. Especially when im not considered a "real woman" because i am flat chested. I avoid going swimming because of how uncomfortable i feel. Maybe someday people will accept that people have different body types and what makes them beautiful is the fact that they are unique, whether curvy, thin and every size in between ♡♡

That poem at the end was wonderful! I spent a lot of time thinking of when I feel the most beautiful and I almost couldn't think of anything. I almost thought that I never feel beautiful, I almost always only feel pretty when I've spent time changing my face and my hair to be something it isn't, wearing uncomfortable outfits just to make me look "better" . Then I realized I feel my most beautiful when something I've done has made someone smile, whether it be a complement, a message on tumblr that means something to someone, a small comment on my writing. Anything I have done to make someones day even a little bit better is when I feel most beautiful.

I am a mixed girl, but I grew up under a Asian household. Many women know that Asians have a smaller body type, and I've ALWAYS ignored the remarks from all my family members, why can't you lose a few? You won't fit it, don't even try, that kind of thing. I just learned, well, I'm not that way! Don't make me into that way! And know I'm 200 lbs and loving my huggable curves, my strong legs that took me up an 8 mile mountain to feed indigenous families, and my big booty for cushioning!

When I was in FIRST GRADE, we always thought skim milk and skim milk alone would make you skinny. One day we were eating lunch and somebody got a skim milk and this boy told her to give it to me because I needed to be skinnier. I have struggled with my self confidence since 1st grade and I have since learned that I am not alone. I don't think there is one girl in my class that is 100% confident in their skin. But I have had a teacher this year that has changed my life. She struggled with her confidence, and she is absolutely gorgeous. She is not a twig, she is a healthy, gorgeous woman that has gone through everything that I have. She will forever be my role model, and I will continue to turn to her. Ever since she became a part of my life, I have vowed that I will be like her. I will help girls in the future that struggle with their body because NO ONE deserves to think that they are not enough.

For my New Years resolution, I told myself that I would watch a Soul Pancake video at the beginning of every week and try to embody the message behind it. After being introduced to Soul pancake by my Comparative a religions teacher at my high school, I have been addicted. Sometimes they are funny, heartfelt, enlightening, or simply thought provoking, nevertheless I find myself with a smile on my face every time. As a senior in high school, living in California and ready to embark on my new chapter if life titled "College", the pressures of school and life in general often times interfere. However it is with these videos, this food for thought, that I am reminded to embrace the good things in life, tell the people whom I love just how much I love them, to be more thankful, or to compliment another... I cannot thank this channel enough for the joy and perspective it brings it to me. Especially these "That's what she said" videos, as a young adult, I know the topics of discussion here should not be reaching just me, not just teenage girls, but everyone. Anyway, I'm not even sure if you read these, however I thank you.

My first feelings of feeling fat happened at 8 years old. The school nurse weighed all of the kids in my class in front of each other and when she yelled out my weight at the time all of the other kids laughed. I weighed 88 lbs. I was already about 5 feet tall. For decades I felt fat whether I actually was fat or not. We need to tell our girls how beautiful they are and teach them to celebrate their uniqueness. There are grown women fighting with their image of themselves. At this stage in my life my imperfect body is mine. I own it. I embrace it. My body and I have been through a lot together.

Poem: Sometimes When I am feeling disconnected from a crowd of people I’m standing in front of When they are staring at me but nothing about the interaction feels of love or understanding Not fun or joy I ask them to repeat after me “I am beautiful” And some are more reluctant than others I am beautiful should be a given Should be a place we begin from A foundation we are born into but sometimes messages get delivered like the post From a stranger always having a bad day A body should not beg for acceptance We walk around in these bodies These protective suits for our tender souls We walk around looking like tattered undelivered apology notes My flesh is exactly as I need it to be to keep my spirit intact Shiny But I have been roaming these streets thinking I understood the concept of beauty as it relates to me Thinking I am beautiful If only I was less or more Thinking If I weighed less these shallow fools would want to know me I’ve been hiding behind clothes trying to camouflage When myself and comfortable is all I’ve ever wanted to be But sometimes Comfortable is as lasting as a love I lost long ago She said “You have a beautiful body” I could not comprehend the words It was the first time in my entire life I had ever heard these words placed together and directed at me When im confused I take big ideas and break them into smaller pieces Make them tiny enough to fit my world into You have a beautiful body YOU Meaning me Meaning Natalie Patterson Daughter of joe frank and lynne Meaning mid west American black girl With skin and eyes light enough to confuse her own kind Meaning my own kind don’t recognize me You have a beautiful body HAVE implies ownership meaning I natalie Patterson own something I never paid for meaning somethings are free meaning I didn’t earn it so I don’t know the value of it Might abuse or take it for granted You have a beautiful body A meaning one Meaning I natalie Patterson own a single thing One irreplaceable thing that does indeed die You have a beautiful body BEAUTIFUL meaning pleasing or satisfying Meaning I am appealing and desirable Didn’t know that Have always been pretty with a “but If you only” attached Never been just beautiful Stated as fact You have a beautiful body BODY meaning physical structure A place the spirit is held in And i have never held even my lovers long enough to be good at it You have a beautiful body I will repeat these words until I am no longer reluctant Until these words are a given Until they are no longer foreign in my mouth I will repeat these words I have a beautiful body I have a beautiful body I have a beautiful body Until ownership becomes a privilege Until this skin becomes a perfect home Weathered and worn over time A perfect home Whose walls I know well Whose stair case And old floors creak my favorite song I am my own favorite song that I am just now learning all the words to But I wanna sing you Sing you til the song sticks I have a beautiful body period.

THANK YOU to everyone involved in making this. Darling Magazine is my favorite magazine and SoulPancake is my favorite KZfaq Channel and I am overjoyed that you guys decided to partner up on this video! Please, do it again sometime! The poem at the end was like medicine to my soul, and I know so many girls who really need to hear it. Words cannot fully express the pain of comparison and body issues especially among young women, and the more we become vulnerable with each other about these destructive thoughts the more we can slowly heal those wounds.

I was holding my breath during that last poem and I didn't even realize it. This video is perfect in every way, it shows how much we are our own worst critic.

That poem was beautiful. I feel beautiful when I see people who look like me succeeding, doing things that are positive. Because it makes me think that I can succeed too. Representation matters.

These girls are beautiful. They are beautiful because they refuse to let anyone tell them they are not. They are beautiful because they despite falling and faltering decided to stand and admit their discontentment. They are beautiful because they learn to cherish themselves before anyone else would. They are beautiful because they stand on their ground and are unbashful to let another know that, "I am beautiful, and so are you."

I absolutely love this channel. It's just so amazing, and everyone is so flawless on this channel. One may not have the perfect chiseled cheekbone, or the flattest stomach but they all have that twinkle in their eyes showing that they are happy with who they are. In my opinion, that's what makes them beautiful. I know I may not have the best curves, or the best hair (two things I think I can improve) but you know what? I feel beautiful. Feeling beautiful comes with accepting yourself. Accept your flaws, because 'imperfection is beauty.' (Marilyn Monroe) Smile a little (or a lot ;) the more smiles the merrier), and spread happiness. When you are yourself your the most beautiful, and if anyone says that your not - to heck with them!
