I was JUST about to start hardwiring my wolfbox mirror cam, really dreading it, then I saw this video! Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be one for Chevrolet/GMC trucks (yet) so maybe I'll hold off juuuuuust a little longer in hopes of one coming out relatively soon

I have the Vofio 229 Pro with front facing camera, interior camera and rear facing camera on a 2024 Outback. I love the idea, but I’m not sure how it would save me on wiring for three cameras. I asked we as I have another 2019 Subaru that I’d like to put a dash cam in.

I'd love to get one of these as I have a Red Tiger cam sitting in a box that I'm dreading installing the wiring down to the fuse block. If there's a FitDVR that would work on a 2007 CR-V, I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could use the cable for the map lights. (There's a second cable for the moonroof but it only works with the key turned to ACC).

You're welcome NHILL! Unfortunately I have not tested the BlackVue 907X so I'm not familiar with it. However this adaptor work with 5V (USB) dash cams and 12V (DC Plug) dash cams and radar detectors as shown in the video. BlackVue typically uses the DC plug connector. The kit comes with a DC connector cable shown on the video in the most common size used by 12V dash cams and radar detectors (measures 3.5mm OD and 1.35 ID). Cheers!

Hi Tom! Ah yes some people run their dash cam off a battery pack. However since here my State we experience really hot temperatures which I would not want to subject the battery to, that and the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car. Here is an example of a internal dash cam battery and what the sun did to it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fr1ondST0cXFqYk.html and a video of battery related fire I personally experienced kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsyHmq1p09uRgnU.html (destroyed the house) Cheers!

Hi. Do you have one that is compatible with audi a5 b8 ? I know it has a rain and light sensor on the reatview mirror but the plug is it universal or you need to pick depending on the car manufacturer?

My car has one of those mirrors with buttons on it to control a garage opener and stuff. It works even when the car is off. So Im assuming it might have enough power to run a dashcam when the car is off.

Why don’t car manufactures just fit dash cams as standard or offer them as an option? In comparison to the overall cost of the vehicle, it wouldn’t be much of an addition to the total price. I don’t get it!

Hi @Autofun Thanks for this amazing review again. As regards my findings on my mirror dashcam of choice, the rydeen Tombo 360x remains my no 1 option for some obvious reasons as you know. But, the low battery protection voltage remains a great concern to me (@ 10V as you told me days ago). Knowing new cars of today has many infactory power consuming accessories already, I don't know if I will be able to start the car the following day if the battery eventually got drained down to 10V. In the course of my research, I stumbled over a review of a dashcam installer whose client dashcam voltage was preset @11.4V and woke up to a dead car some days later just as he has predicted to the client, that such will happen at that voltage😔 (11.4 was assumed low, not to talk of 10) 1) What will be your advice/recommendation at this point pls? 2) Does rydeen has any hardwire kit for adjustable power protection? Or is the option available now in the updated software? 12v and above would be lovely and reliable 3) I will really appreciate if you can share with me the manual showcasing the new software interface navigation and functionalities. (the one on their site seems to be the old one). I just want to see the added functionalities Thanks so much as I anticipate your response...... Peace ✌️

You're welcome Muda! Ah remember 10V is not the power consumption of the device, the 10V refers to at what point the low voltage cut off kicks in. You can have a kit cut off at 12V but if the power consumption of the car is high when the vehicle is off the battery will reach that level faster and park monitoring will turn off (basically the same as not having parking monitoring), same if it was 11V or 10V, how long it takes for the battery to get to a specific voltage varies depending on the car's battery, size, age, health condition, SOC and any parasitic draw from other items on the vehicle that use power when the car is off. This is specially common on newer vehicles. For example I have an older Jeep that can sits for months a time with little to no battery draw, then I have a 2017 car that will almost completely drain my battery in a few weeks if the car is not used (mind you that car does not have any aftermarket devices connected to it). Here is the battery tester I use kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oal-pcmSnbi5e4k.html if you want to test your battery for capacity and health, it can also perform a parasitic draw test if needed. I do use one of this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eZd8lNOGp53GiKM.html on vehicles that have a high power draw when off to protect the battery. Regarding an adjustable hardwire from Rydeen, they do not have one (adjusting the cut off is a feature I'm slowly seeing disappear from the market) Cheers!

This is a very interesting topic and I actually have a video in the works where I go into power consumption into more detail including testing different dash cams power draw (Amps while in parking mode) and also test their amp draw in the different park modes they support (some mode consume more power than others) That way people can get an idea on draw and which mode to choose from. Sorry I'm a bit confused. Does this means the power adapter tap taking power from the ACC? The hub behind rearview mirror is usually for ADAS camera and stuffs, right? Isn't it only powered when the ignition is on? If so, then it cannot be used for parking mode? I use a 70mai dashcam and it requires VCC for parking mode and switch to ACC when ignition on. But aside from that, I imagine this power adapter tap really helps people installing dashcam. Decently priced too.

Ah good question, as explained on the video, park monitoring will depend on your vehicle, most have switched power to this area but some do have constant power potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked. I recently learned the power for moon roof can be disconnected. Many are discovering this moon roof feature is unnecessary. Could this be an alternative for wiring?

Disconnecting power to the moon roof can potentially disable your moon roof from working (since it will no longer have power) If you don't plan to use your moon roof, I guess it could be disconnected, just be aware that some newer vehicles will throw a code for that and may require relearning the sunroof once it's reconnected. There is no mention of the cars circuit capacity. What size fuse it is on and what amp draw it has. By adding this, you may exceed the circuit capacity and blow the fuse. You gotta tell the whole story and not just the sell points of the product.

Brod! The car's circuit capacity will vary from vehicle to vehicle as manufacturers have use different designs. Here is my alternative method kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j6ubn9Bqu5zciXk.html and my hardwire video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q8CgbJh_x7TQnYE.html But remember normal hardwire kits, this adapter or the cigarette lighter adapter will impose an extra load on your vehicles electrical system, however as shown on the video, the load is very small (dash cams usually pull less than 15W, aprox 3A for mirrors dash cams and about 2A for stick dash cams) and you can also just run the cigarette lighter plug those sockets are usually rated at 120W Cheers!

Hi Bob! I would check your owners manual, most cars are setup to allow disconnecting the battery without issues as this is a normal operation performed commonly on cars. The manual may also help you understand the re-learn procedure (and if there is one or not) when swapping batteries for a new one (vs using the same battery where it may not be required). You can also consult with your dealer to confirm if you will loose your stereo presets or any other settings if the battery is disconnected for service. Cheers!

@@jorkirasalas2726 Hi Jorki! Ah I actually I can, I also reviewed the Dongar and they are very different devices. The Dongar is smaller due to it's lack of enclosure and screen. The Dongar has been around longer so it's possible they may have more vehicle coverage than FitDVR. The FitDVR is newer so it has more capability as far as powering dash cams where the Dongar is limited (both in Amperage and in Voltage). The FitDVR looks clean and has the informative screen but again this maybe just a matter of preference (some people don't care for an enclosure or screen). Hi JP! As shown on the video this adapter supports mirror dash cams that do not exceed it's rated capacity (so none of my mirror dash cams have exceeded it's capacity). Just remember that if you have an older M3, the GPS function is built in the original adapter so you will loose GPS if not using the original adapter. The new M3 (review on it coming) has the GPS function independently of the power adapter. Cheers!

So there is no need for the rear camera to have it's own power supply. I wired my dashcam like this... but I didnt use any kind of aftermarket adapter. In fact my cam came with a 12v adapter to use with it. I ran 2 wires from that to the feed inside the housing of my mirror and hid the adapter inside the housing. All you see is the wire coming out. I guess what I am wondering is, what is the difference between this and the included adapter? Why would I need to spend money on this when my dashcam came with a power adapter? Wanted to mention I used to pins to push in the back of the power pins on the cars connector (no cutting or stripping) and some electrical tape to hold them in place. Yeah I know.... electrical tape, yuck....

Hi Brad! Correct as explained on the video there a few 12DVC dash cams out there which could potentially be connected without the need for a step down adapter. The different between connecting power directly to the dash cam vs using this adapter is several. This is a plug and play solution for both 5V and 12V devices. While tech savvy folks like yourself and I can tap for power directly, most people want to avoid the hassle of determining which wires to tap into and in the case of 5V dash cam to wire in a step down adapter. That being said I do think hardwire methods are going to be the way for experience installers (and include the benefit of enabling true park mode). Hi Joan! I haven't had overheating issues with mine (but will update this comment if something changes) this is low current device. Usually where I see heat, is on the dash cam side, dash cams normally run warm to hot (and very hot if running in 4K). If you are looking to reduce their temperature here are some suggestions. Reduce resolution (lower resolutions produce less heat), reduce bit rate (some dash cams will let you change it) and finally enable screen saver (screen time out) which will turn off the display after a period of time but will continue recording (the screen itself generates heat). So close to being a 5 start product, it needs parking mode option. Parking mode is not for when you park in your garage, it's for when you go to the store, the mall or anywhere else. Almost all dash cams have the parking mode option, specially the "big brands". I would also love to see a touch scrren (or a button) added to it to be able to turn the screen off. And have this product available for more brands of cars, specially high end vehicles were owners would be more inclined to buy something like this and not mess around with the fuse box. Overall this is a very cool concept but it seems like they are just starting up, can't wait to see this product evolve over the years.

Regarding a touchscreen or button to control the screen I can definitely be done, it's just a matter of costa and if the end customer is willing to absorb it. this device looks very specific and not universal for various car manufacturers and even homelink. also there may be issues with multi-channel dashcams like those with front, rear and interior cameras and with parking modes and 24/7 recording modes.

Hi iblackfeathers! Correct, this is not an universal device, I placed links in the video description for the different car makes it is available for. Regarding dash cams with multiple channels as show on the video it can power dash cams with more than one channel (like the 2 channel mirror dash cam and the 3 channel dash cam I showed) as long as the power requirement is not exceeded. Regarding park monitoring explained on the video, park monitoring will depend on your vehicle, most have switched power to this area but some do have constant power potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked. Hi Richard! Yes some people do run their dash cam off a battery pack. However since here in my State we experience really hot temperatures which I would not want to subject the battery to, that and the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car.
