Because his father used him. Teressi was a rat who only got close to Tommy so he could snitch on his best friend. Ghost never used Tariq and gave him a life of wealth, all he wanted Riq to do was fess up about a murder he did. Riq was never going to get any harsh sentence given the context of the case and Ghost at that point of the series had the power to make sure, but Riq was only thinking about himself instead of thinking of the bigger picture.

Riq was proven and foreshadowed to be SMARTER than Ghost way too many times atp, he controlled and set up his entire family on that 2 million dollar lick with Vincent while not even good at the game, just observant and aware of the real intentions of the players. The feds said Riq will be a bigger monster than Ghost, Tasha saw it and Kanan did too… even told Ghost! While Tommy says that Tariq is just like him… Ghost was the only denial one and you see where it got him…. Y’all need to cope.
