Basically, any coach who is against Oly lifts is sus. They’re too good to be ignored. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Dane from garage strength coaches Olympic athletes and these other guys don’t. He’s also a huge fan of Oly lifts for non Oly lifters

Dane is weird because he seems to coach very competently but when you listen to him explain his stuff half the time he's spewing random scientism bullshit. As far as I can tell he's training people well but like man the way he justifies some things is so whack. That bugs me lol, it's like he knows what's good but sucks at explaining why it's good.

@@cheeks7050 I honestly think sometimes he’s just pumping out content for yt and business reasons. I do believe there are golden nuggets for the recreational athlete here and there since he definitely does know what he’s doing given the high achievements his athletes have. Getting through the inflated / incredibly specific content to get to the golden nuggets that I can use is worth it imo. Made some huge gains taking his advice on some stuff. But that’s what makes Will great. Everything from him is just pure solid gold 👌

@@cheeks7050 There's room for some broscience when you have the fundamentals nailed. The athletes he coaches perform pretty well in their respective sports, which means he's gotta be doing most of it right. Either that or he's blessed with phenomenal athletes, which is less likely.

All I think when I see coaches say that is "tell me your a strength coach who sucks at the Olympic lifts without telling me your a strength coach who sucks at the Olympic lifts" I don't think they've ever achieved a level of proficiency in the lifts themselves. If they had, the benefits to learning the lifts are undeniable.

Great points man. I especially like the point about elasticity in deep knee flexion.

There is never weakness in addressing mobility issues, it will never come back to haunt an athlete. “Well we don’t have time to develop mobility for the lifts”. Make time. 15 min a day of drills will not bite into valued training time and the benefit is a worthy investment.

@@willratelle8027this may not necessarily be your wheelhouse, but I would love to hear your thoughts on strength/power training for endurance sports. I coach a small collegiate rowing club and the question of when in the season and how to incorporate weight training is hotly contested around the boathouse. If you’re unfamiliar with rowing crew, it’s like guys who are 190 lbs and lean trying to do 250 rep clean pulls as quickly as possibly in perfect sync. Races are about 6 minutes (2000m) of maximal effort so endurance is the focus of our training, but power is undeniably a factor.

@@kacyinix4428 I Would look which energy systems they have to develope. 6 min is clear aerobic. getting a really good aerobic system while building up low velocity strength would be my route. one maybe two lactate sessions a week won't hurt. Making sure the aerobic system can get rid of that lactate as well as all the other factors coming with it.
