I knew a mechanic originally from Turkey who said “nothing will hold tighter than a good cross thread”!!
@benjamincresswell3713

After 57yrs of doing mechanic work, I have yet to find a mechanic who had formal education in the field. Whenever I tried to tell one every bolt needs to be lubricated especially if we are going to measure the torque or the yield, they say no, it will come loose. I have finally decided they believe cross-threading, dirt, rust carbon or loctite is what keeps a bolt tight. They don't have a clue about clamping, thread stretch or tension.

@mph5896

@@benjamincresswell3713 Loctite actually works as a lubricant when installing fasteners until it hardens. It also keeps galvanic corrosion and rust out of the threads. And for bolts/nuts loosening up, I have only experienced it 1 time. Gm rear end cover bolts seem to loosen on their own if loctite is not used.

My 2014 Ecoboost had the exact same issue with carbon tracking and misfiring. Now I replace the plugs every year just because. This is a well known issue with the Ecoboost. BTW I start a plug into the head with a piece of stiff rubber hose slid over the ceramic. It will let you feel the threading process and slip and remove when it is finger tight. Keep wrenching Kenny- love your channel!

Nice job, I always used the German torque spec. Kenny, I put a 455 olds engine together, heads, everything, without a torque wrench. It was so tight I had to use 24 volts to turn it over starting it for the first time. It was the best engine I ever had. It was a work boat, cooled with seawater. It rusted out before it wore out. In a car, just guessing wild it would have had 500k miles on it. True workhorse, changed the oil every 2 weeks.

My son was driving one of my vans and told me that it wasn't shifting right so I took it for a ride and it shifted okay for me. It did stumble when I took off from a stop and I figured it needed a set of plugs. It ran a lot better but my son still complained about the shifting. It was not shifting into overdrive as well as I thought it should so paid close attention and there was still a slight miss. Finally after replacing the plug wires my son stopped complaining. They were the original wires and the difference could be felt when shifting into overdrive. Good video. Happy Motoring.

Same exact problem - Is usually from people that want something fixed for free. You had their car in your shop a month ago and now it has a problem and somehow they want it to be your problem. I work on marine diesels, but rarely yachts because of some of the people that own them. I'm older than you and don't need the work. Although sometimes I'll take on an engine if several others have failed to fix it. Those are sometimes fun to figure out.

Nothing like figuring out a problem after 10 other people gave up. One of the main things that kept me from becoming a professional car mechanic was the old ' since you worked on my car it has this other problem ' and it's supposed to be your fault and you need to fix it for free.

I feel your pain, Kenny. Having worked in dealerships as a service advisor, I saw more than a few "it's doing exactly what it did before" complaints where, as you say, it's either not the same or it's similar symptoms from a different cause. The thing we have to remember is that a customer is upset at paying money and it appears to them the job's not done properly. All they know is it's not right and possibly aren't in the best frame of mind to have the differences explained. All they'll hear is being told that they'll still have to pay as it's not the same issue. You can be as right about the cause and even how it presents as you like, there will be times when the customer simply does not want to hear that it's going to cost them more. In time they'll often accept it, but in the moment it can be a difficult conversation. That said, we NEED people like yourself who know this stuff well enough to be able to properly diagnose issues instead of simply loading the "parts cannon" and hoping for the best. Thanks for your videos and patience in explaining things to those of us who want to learn.

I do service work, and most of the time, they are looking to get it fixed free. They usually know it's not the same problem, so hopefully, they get the 12 month warranty free work. I've had people throw fits and try to say I'm ripping them off. The extent to which customers will go through to get things for free are crazy.

cylinders 5 -3 -1 showing misfires....one whole side is miss firing. one bad enough to affect the other 2? or the real problem affecting first one in the worst way, and dragging the other 2 into the mix because of the impediment? my dad always said if they still work don't fix it, but the 40+ year mechanics at the dealerships always said do the recommended maintenance and replace them at the recommended miles because you don't know when the old ones will fail any more and it will always be at the worst possible time in the worst possible place when you need it most, and if you only replace what fails, you will end up tearing everything apart and reassembling things enough you can become his shop assistant just from all the practice you'll get breaking things out of frustration as stuff wears out and causes the worst possible time, in the worst possible place, when you need it most. i haven't found that mechanics advice to be wrong hardly at all compared to my dads advice...preventative maintenance is worth it's cost vs in a whole new automobile.

Kenny…..the reason customers cannot reconcile the various problems is because they don’t know crap about cars. To the customer, It was running like crap last time and it is running like crap now so it must be the same problem…..and they might even blame the mechanic for not fixing it properly the first time. A mechanic can’t expect a customer to understand various problems….especially if they feel or sound similar or trigger the same warning lights. You really have to dumb down your explanations for them.
