I just installed 2-50ah and a 125ah Ionic.. can't justify the cost of the power pole just yet...I'll give them a full season's use with the Ionic charger and go from there. Great video.

Thanks Curt!...yea it’s not needed by any means, I mainly got it because I take weekend trips to NY sometimes and don’t want to have to worry about finding a hotel to charge up anymore...I can easily get 2-3 days outta this setup without even having to worry about plugging in...if it wasn’t for that I’m not sure I would have gone with the Charge either, but now that I have it I’m super impressed by it!

Awesome Video!! I Just Got 3 12v 100ah Ionic batteries for my phoenix boat. We have a lot of reservoir fishing that is trolling motor only so I’m pretty confident we should be able to have full power on a 12 to 14 hour day. Looking at your video it looks like 3 50s would have done the trick also. Thanks for the video @ajpfishing 👊🏻👊🏻

This is new to a lot of people, but I want t give you some food for thought. I have a very similar electronic set up, certainly close in amp draw. I use 1 125ah ionic for the cranking and all my electronics. That Mercury can easily charge that battery. I never put my graphs on standby unless I make a long run. But I’ve never been lower than 80% in a day. That’s two solix 10s, and a solix 12 at the bow. But!! I have to say, I’m convinced to get the 50 ah trolling motor batteries after this video. A ionic dealer near me said I needed 3 100ah batteries, and I don’t think that’s the case.

Yeah these Lithiums are legit, unbelievable how long they last… I love having the two big boys though, with running dual 16s, dual 12s, active target, dual 12 foot talons, and all my LEDs I would definitely drop below 80% if I only had a single battery (depends on how much running with the Merc of course)… The good thing about these batteries is you can discharge them much farther without doing any damage…and I gotta be honest, the 3 50ah trolling batteries are PLENTY!…I can seriously fish 2-3 days without even looking at em, it’s insane…thanks for watching!

Happy Easter bud. I have the same set up. 125amp and 3 50a for TM Going on my 3rd season with them. Unlike you my 125 ionic does it all . I have fished 12,14,16 hrs days running all the goods an the lowest I have ever got them down to was 50 60% . I went and purchased the Ionic charger. Also that is also a plug and play . No worries. nice review! when adding the additional batt for the TM, did you have to get another powerpole charger or do the same 5 wires just go in another configuration?

Thank you!…no sir, no added charger needed…you just configure the wiring a little differently and the single Power Pole Charge system will charge them all….hope that helps!

Would the alternator not charge the starting battery anyway without the charge? Unless you have to disconnect it somehow for that thing. Just a thought. Also, If you did one or two 36v batteries instead of three 12v, you could have had all your batteries connected. A 50ah 36v would be about the same as those three 12v. Heck I’d do a 100, or a couple 50’s.

Got a question sir. Gonna have (1) cranking battery, (1) electronics battery, and (1) 24v or 36v battery. Can the power pole charge do all of them? I’ve looked at their manual but it doesn’t really indicate that it can do it like this.

I have installed this setup but without the extra battery for my electronics. I am on my second power pole charge unit and it still isn’t working. Over night it is draining one of my trolling batteries. I am using ionic lithiums. I’m just curious if you’ve had any trouble with your power pole charge?I’ve heard the charge “doesn’t play well with ionic batteries”. Great channel and TIA for any info.

Hey Danny, thank you!!… I’ve actually had no issues at all with my Charge unit and my Ionics, they’ve exceeded my expectations by far… I know a few others that have added similar set ups and haven’t had any problems either, I would reach out to power pole and see what they say… Something doesn’t seem right, I know the chances are slim but I wonder if you got two defective units…or a faulty battery… Let me know how you make out!

I have the 125 ah and 3 50 ah. I run all my electronics off my 125 ah cranking battery. What was that behind your electronics battery that wasn’t connected? Do you run your entire NMEA setup to your electronics battery?

That black cable that’s not connected is the extra “ground cable” for the Active Target module...it’s not needed, you can hook it to negative terminal if you’re getting interference on AT, so I ran it just in case but left it off since I don’t get much interference at all...and my NMEA 2k network power is ran to my bus bar under my console, that connects to cranking battery

I was going to get a Power Pole Charge but backed out of it. Lot of guys that fish smaller lakes that have little run time are having issues. The problem is if you fish for 6-8 hours without running the engine the Charge pulls power from your cranking battery FIRST. So it ends up draining the starting battery. So this may not work for a lot of guys that are in that situation. Yes, supposedly you can change the settings to prioritize the cranking battery in the app but people that have tried that said it didnt change the outcome of a dead cranking battery. I think ideally if you run around a lake or have long runs the Charge could be helpful. However a lot of guys may not be doing this. I sometimes fish off shore schools for 4-6 hours sometimes longer. My lakes are on the smaller side and can be traveled in 5-10 minutes.

Hey Bill!...it’s funny that ya mention that, I’ve heard a couple people say that as well...but I was back out today and found a mega school of panfish...anchor locked with the Ghost for over 4 hours, literally just picking apart giant schools of panfish...didn’t turn the big motor on once and I had no issues at all when it came time to leave...motor turned over with ease and my cranking battery was still at 88%...not sure what’s goin on there, and you may be right for people who don’t turn big motor over for 8+ hours at a time, but today was a good test for me!... thanks for watching!

@@NitroZ18Fishing You also have a dedicated electronics battery along side your cranking battery. So you dont have a apples to apples comparison. Not even close to the same thing.

That’s correct, I do have a dedicated battery for graphs, just simply stating that I fished for over 4 hours without turning motor over and I had no issues at all...I do however run a lot of other things off my cranking battery, just an FYI...had my SonicHub2 goin, charging GoPro batteries, and running my livewell cause I loaded em up with panfish...I understand it’s not an “apples to apples”, just trying to give an idea of what I was doin...thanks for watching!

This issue has been fixed,if charger is not in fishing mode(outboard running)or on AC current,the charger will hibernate.I have fished many days not using the main motor,and the only power taken from cranking battery was from an HDS 9.So when I plugged back into AC,all the charge went to trolling battery.PP CS is very good,send them a diagnostic report and they follow up on it. I had one issue,and that was an over temp error.They told me that it could also be that charger leads were below 32F,which was the case.Error went away when temp went above 32F,it is to prevent charge voltage being applied to lithium batteries.Boat was in storage during the winter.You can also turn off power with the app.

I just got the Power Pole Charge. Everything is hooked up correctly. I have a 100mah Interstate & 3 100mah Ionic Lithiums. I have 1 Ionic that won't charge past 89%. I get an ERROR CONDITION MAINTENCE/FLOAT MODE Batteries are being balanced. It's said that for almost 24 hours now.

I'm guessing that it is the middle battery in series?The last update was supposed to solve that,and the % figures disappeared.They say to leave plugged into AC until all batteries show green.But the Ionic app may show different?Kinda disappointed that the charge% screen went away,it was almost spot on for my single battery set-up(12/24). Verified by the Ionic app and the 24V is non-Bluetooth and don't want to mess with extra wires/shunts and gauges. I just go by the voltage readings and the PP Charge is the only charger out there that can do single 24/36v batteries,or 24/36 in series.Plus it fits in a relatively small area,the other multi-bank chargers are just huge.

Since making this video I’ve actually hooked my 2 125ah batteries up in parallel, so I can see them all on the Power Pole Charge app…but prior to that (when I had them as shown in this video), I used the Ionic app to view the electronic battery…hope that helps!

I just recently purchased and installed 3 50ah, 1 125ah and power pole charge. I just read several post on BBC that the charge is not charging the middle TM battery. Supposedly the charge does not like the ionics. Have you had any issues since your installation?

Has anyone ran into a high rpm issue with the starting battery being lithium battery. and if so would the pp charge change that problem beings its putting power to all batteries. I have a 2000 yamaha 200 sho and that is what i found was high rpm at idol. I should have the charge at my door by tonight or monday. Just seeing if anyone has heard this or if charge changes it thanks and good video

Did you ever do a video with the 24v system for the TM? I have a 24v Ultrex and was wondering if 2 50Ah would be enough for 1 day of fishing. For reference, I do not fish rivers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Doug!… I never posted a video on it, but I have ran my ghost on the 24v system… You could definitely fish a full day and have battery to spare, especially if you don't fish heavy current!

Do you know how low percentage wise the lithiums can be run down before there dead? I just purchased 3-50ah ionics

You can technically run them all the way down to 0 but it’s not necessarily recommended… From the research I’ve done it seems like stopping around 20% or so (then charging them fully) is ideal for battery life but there is a lot of debate on this… I typically don’t let mine get below 30-40% just to be safe, hope that helps!

I have ionic lithium batteries and have a 36 volt system for my trolling motor. I have 3 50amp trolling batteries. And the power pole charge. 1 of my trolling batteries just went dead. I took it off charged it separately. Its holding a charge. Called ionics and they told me that the power pole charge wouldn't fully charge there batteries. Just wanted to tell you my problem.

What is the longest you have fished on a windy day using the tm alot? How much battery was left? I would love to save some money and get the 50ah but i have fished 12-14 hr days and killed my 115ah lead batteries so i am afraid it wont be enough

Hey Jeremy!…I’d say the longest I’ve fished in a single day would be around 6-8 hours, but I have fished 2-3 days without worrying about plugging in…and as you see in the video, I run a TON of electronics…I personally think 3 of fhe 50’s are enough for just about any situation, especially if you can plug in after the day on the water…I even fish the St Lawrence River (heavy current) with no worries at all…hope that helps!

I now have the two big boys ran in parallel for a total of 250 ah… Since making this video I updated my wiring/connections, have a video on the channel showing exactly what I did… With the new set up, I wouldn’t change a thing… I can fish 2 to 3 days without plugging in, it’s unreal

Dang. 2 hours and down to 84%?? That’s only about 12 hours you can run all your electronics. I’d definitely run in parallel with cranking.

Absolutely!… You’re not wrong at all, that will power everything… The only advantage to a set up like this is it lasts WAY longer, it’s not even close… I can fish 2 to 3 days running all of this stuff and not have to worry about plugging in if I don’t want to or don’t have access to an outlet…thanks for watching!

I was all ready to pull the trigger until I listened to this about the "transfer of power" and "emergency start" functions not being available in regards to a lithium cranking battery? Just curious your thoughts on the video compared to experience so far?
