POWER PRESSURE WASHER ● vs ● PLASTIC POP BOTTLES

I did more crazy explosion tests on 2L and PET pop bottles!! These coke bottles are amazingly strong but have you ever wondered how much pressure a 2L soda or PET bottle can take? We wanted to find out so we collected a bunch of pop bottles that you see everyday and we pressurized them to destruction. We decided to use hydro static testing or some call it hydroforming to destroy the bottles instead of air pressure. Using a pressure washer is the easiest way to hydroform. So cool to watch them expand and how big they get!!

great experiment. you should redo and incrementally add pressure and see how much pressure before it goes critical. then put like 75 percent before the critical point and see how long the plastic will last.

If you're just pressure testing them why even bother to put water in them?? Since water isn't compressible it just gets in the way of the test.

Would a metal hose clamp around the cap and maybe some epoxy 2 part glue on the threads help eliminate the cap giving up before you get a true test of some of these amazingly strong bottles? Great video by the way!

Very good video. Although amateur work, it has some scientific value. Would be useful to know the water temperature and other factors like climate in order to put those numbers in a context. Temperature definitely affects pressure.

I've wondered, what happens if you wrap duct tape around it? Will it make it stronger? Also, a bit of thick tape around the cap might help seal it better and prevent the cap from popping off. But it will be harder to screw on.

Interesting indeed. I'm curious though about the "Smart Water" style bottles since they're symmetrical in design. Have you found a particular cap that holds up to the pressure better than others? If so, what's it from? Be interesting test combining the best bottle with the best cap. also, did you find they could hold more pressure if filled at a certain rate? Thanks for sharing your experiment. - chase -

@@chrisnotap I'm going to use plastic bottles as fireworks this year for December 31st. Since my air compressor only goes to 150 PSI I will have to design a trigger to make them POP at a certain pressure, since I will be a distance away from the bottles.

I did this in my garage, and I put my phone recording in the living room which about 20-25 feet away from the garage and the garage door was open, anyway I had a smaller 500ml bottle that somehow managed to get to 85psi before it exploded and when it exploded, when I say that thing sounded like a 12 gauge going off, it did. Thankfully I used ear protection and also when it went off every thing that was hanging on the walls fell down and when I checked the camera footage in my living room, the phone shook when it went off. Dangerous dangerous stuff man.
