Fun fact for you! The Stunt performer in the red ranger suit from this episode onwards ironically was the stunt performer for Tyrannoranger in the Japanese counterpart Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger! Most likely for fighting style consistency. He continued to be red ranger for MMPR S3, then from Turbo to Ninja Storm!

Alright! We're back! Top tier season opener time! A few firsts...First helmetless footage in the Command Centre; First "Back to Action!" call by Jason; First non-sentai main villain and putties. That continuous shot of the morphed rangers against the putties (I believe) was the first continuous shot of all 6 rangers fighting at the same time on screen. It's cool that they finally call back to Nicki's question about them not mentioning Tommy's weakining powers at the end of season 1 by showing it now.

Goldar's wings return permanently this ep, but they were always meant to be retractable. Turbanshell is the last Zyu2 monster. 25 monsters altogether as part of Zyu2.

Lord Zedd's creation was a pretty significant step for Power Rangers. He was the first purely American villain, and came about out of necessity for the continuation of the show. Up until this point, the show simply relied on Japanese stock footage of Bandora's Palace and the villains interacting in order to convey what's going on. What this meant is that you not only got really cheesy and often brief dubs where some lines had to be said very hastily, but you'd get alot of recycled footage being used over and over again. Lord Zedd cured alot of that. They had a villain that could be used for whatever scenes they wanted to film, and with the acquisition of the rest of the henchmen suits, it meant that villain scenes could be more fleshed out and detailed than before, as well as being able to interact with the American cast. This is where the Mighty Morphin era of Power Rangers really started to come into its own in terms of storytelling. Not to mention in what was clearly a ratings grab, they aired the three-parter in PRIMETIME. This meant that the show was now pushed more into the mainstream than ever before.

I mentioned it before but I guess you guys didn't see it, all the American fight footage with the rangers in the suits is actually the actors under the helmets, they did all there own stunts then in episode 4 up (after the mutiny) they have the new stunt team with Jeff Pruitt after that. This is all zyu2 footage up till Tommy looses his powers then it goes dairanger footage.

This was the big one. I remember this episode premiered in PRIME TIME. Only time one of my favorite kid shows was shown in prime time was Batman: the Animated Series. Power Rangers had made it. And they debuted the series’ most badass villain.

I watched this the night it premiered on FOX. A Thursday Night at 8pm in Summer '94. Part 2 aired 8 days later on a Friday and Part 3 the Friday after that. What an epic night

With season 1 and done, I was very proud to have kept up with MMPR. Video games were about to get released on several home consoles (Game Boy, Super NES and Sega Genesis). But from late July-early August of 1994, the Fox Network did something that was pretty exciting. The 2 most-highly rated shows on Fox Kids would be broadcasted in primetime for the course of 2 weeks. The season 2 premiere of MMPR and the season 2 finale of the X-Men animated series, big deal since Saban produced both. Mutiny part 1 aired by itself first on a Thursday. So many changes going one here. The whole set-up of Lord Zedd was kinda epic and Rita being kicked to the curb was hilarious. The non-Sentai morphed scene was cool and these new puddies seem almost unbeatable. I think there was a spoiler in some entertainment magazine about the zords becoming obsolete. What a start. Back to action (of course).

17:40 - I will point out that even though that weakness is kind of obvious, you can't just touch the Z. You have to hit it hard enough to actually have it count. But I do enjoy the fact that the new putties are self-cleaning.

I have fond memories of watching this episode for the first time in prime time. Power Rangers was so hot, Fox ran a preview of Season 2 by showing this season opener during the summer as a prime time special after the Simpsons. They even had a special opening with the Rangers and Bulk and Skull in the Juice Bar before the Simpsons came on. Here's a bit of trivia for you Monty: Since they wanted to introduce the new Thunder Megazord early so they could get the toys out for Christmas, even though they are still using Zyu2 footage, they hacked apart the Zord fights so it's just stock shots of the monster shooting and then stock shots of the Megazord getting hit. They actually did get the Thunder Megazord suit to shoot American footage with the Zyu2 monsters, but their early attempts were lousy and they ended up not using them and went with the spliced Zord fights. Saban does get better at trying American Zord fights and you'll see their first better attempt at one much later in the season. I mentioned this in the unaired pilot comments, but thankfully, Jeff Pruitt, the stunt coordinator for Power Rangers, uploaded the silent, unedited Zyu2 footage so we finally did get to see the actual Dino Megazord fights with the Zyu2 monsters. Fans have taken the silent footage and dubbed in music and sounds, so if you want Monty, try searching "Dino Megazord vs. (insert Season 2 Zyu2 monster here)" and you should get the fan dubbed videos of the fights, because we did miss out on seeing some interesting stuff with the Dino Megazord with the remaining Zyu2 monsters.

I know they did that little bit of american zord footage in the octophantom fight but I didn't know if they did anymore than that in those early s2 episodes. Did you hear about that from somewhere? I've tried asking Jeff to upload more Zyu2 footage with saliguana and pumpkin rapper but I don't know if he will. He might have the others in storage, from a comment I read years ago. The fan videos of those are just like the spliced ones but with dinzords or sometimes the other zords too. But even then, if it feels more right with the dinozord ones to me, as that was the original intention of course.

Fun fact about the first of the three intro for season 2 in episode 3: It featured the original putties getting blown up in flames after getting hit by lightning. Now I think that was suppose to suggest that Lord Zedd used his power to destroy the original putties to completely erasing any elements of Rita. But in reality, that from an unused Zyu2 stock footage of the Stag Beetle monster battle. If you look very closely to that scene, ignoring the series of images of future episodes moving across the screen from left to right and vice versa, you can clearly see the Stag Beetle among the original putties getting blown up.

I thought the original Zyu2 footage looked better than the american replacement footage for stag beetle and the putties. Same with octophantom and bloom of doom sequences they had re filmed because of omitting certain parts from the zyu2 footage.

Great video! One of the biggest changes for me this season was when the Rangers were at the Command Center, still morphed, but with their helmets off. Just because whenever we did see the Rangers morphed at the Command Center, it was for a few minutes in certain episodes, and their helmets stayed on. And yeah, the footage of the Rangers with Pirantishead is Zyu2 footage. In fact they'll keep using Zyu2 monster footage for a while, since Toei made so much of it when Saban first commissioned them to make extra Zyuranger footage for season 1, after "Doomsday" was finished.

Ah, yes. The Super Putties and their Z-Logo weakness. Ever since I saw this episode, when I was a kid, if I was playing with action figures and the toy had a logo on its chest, that would be its only weakness. Like if I was playing with Transformers, the Autobots would have to hit the Decepticons directly where the logo was to win. Good times.

MontyVerse and Nicki, That was an awesome Reaction episode to Start Season 2 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers that features the 1st of a 3 Part episode that is titled the Mutiny. Also, It features the Debut of Lord Zedd, and Lord Zedd's Putties. Also, The Rangers were fantastic in taking care of Lord Zedd's Putties by aiming for the z on their Chest to save Bulk and Skull. Also, the ending was crazy when 4 of the Ranger's Zords were frozen. Also, I am glad that Nicki is feeling Better. Also, A couple of Questions to both you and Nicki, Did you enjoy the debut of Lord Zedd and Did you enjoy seeing Lord Zedd use his Staff to create Monsters out of the Stuff on earth Like Pirantishead? The original plan for season two was for Goldar to overthrow Rita and take her place as the big bad. But it seems the writers decided it was best to go with a brand new villain.
