Good day, Thanks for your question. In short - Yes the shaft should move freely allowing you to connect and disconnect from the tractor. Although, it's common over time for rust to build up making the process of sliding more difficult. In some cases you can apply lubricant then grease to free up the shaft making it slide more easily. If your shaft is bent, you may want to replace it. Please contact us if you have any more question.

Bud Miller, Training Specialist thank you very much! I bought the tractor and rotary cutter last fall, didn’t start using the cutter until this summer. I don’t know how long it had sat outside at the dealer. It sits outside now, too. I can say it has always been difficult to move the shaft so I think separating the two parts and giving it a good going over will really help. Thanks again for the video and your response. You have really help me a lot.

Darren, In the past King Kutter has used several different brands of P.T.O shafts. Can you look at your shaft for a brand name, if not can you send me pictures of what you have. The covers attach different on each brand.

@@jimmycoward7055 Jim, My rotary cutter model is L-60-40-P-Y. The pto kingkutter part number is 147029. It says it is a 29" shaft. I do have the the shields that go over the knuckles of the pto but not the tubes. I see the name Eurocardan on them. According to the manual, the kingkutter part for the Eurocardan safety shield is 124311. In my earlier post I said I'll have to order on-line. I need to know how to install/remove the shield.

If that doesn't provide the answer to your question, the first number in the number cast into the yokes should also be the series. If that doesn't work, we recommend measuring & comparing the size. He keeps turning the thing around - my understanding that the end with inner tube goes to the tractor and the other to the implement< but i ll better find another video.

Good Morning Ken, Depending on which type of stub shaft you have attaching to the back of your tractor - You will have to either pull back the PTO shaft to release the ball bearings from the coupler on the back of your tractor, OR there might be a small bar pin that needs to be pressed in order to release the PTO. We recommend checking the mfg. manual to see how your particular PTO works on either end. You should be able to pull apart the plastic shield guard and two pieces of the PTO making it a little easier to remove from the cutter. Hope this is helpful! I meant from the cutter, not the tractor. All the videos seem to start with the shaft laying on a table, already disconnected. Thanks

Below is a couple suggestions from our techs: First, a good idea might be to spray the area of the gearbox shaft with a good quality penetrating oil and allow time for it to work to help make the removal easier. It's very possible that the yoke has become slightly seized to the gearbox shaft. In addition to the penetrating oil, some light taps of a hammer all the way around the yoke while pulling might be helpful. Be careful not to break the yoke and we can't recommend enough wearing PPI gear in case something does break! If the gearbox shaft is splined, it could be attached in one of two different ways: #1 - There might be 1 or 2 bolts holding the yoke of the shaft to the gearbox shaft, they would need to be removed. #2 - The yoke could be a quick release just like the tractor end and could be designed with a push-button or pull-type style release. If the cutter gearbox shaft is smooth, it likely has one bolt going through the center portion (shear bolt) of the yoke into the center of the gearbox shaft. Simply remove the bolt and nut and remove them from the shaft. These are again just some quick suggestions to try, but we recommend following the safety guidelines stated in the manual of your cutter as this job can burst knuckles, or worse sometimes.
