Fascinating interview. I have listened to many on this topic and this is by far the most informative. Dr Jeffrey is a fine human being, full of integrity, humility and kindness. I have been using a full panel a few times a week for 12 minutes (front only). I will pare this down. One thing that happened was my left eye (for which I have needs a prescription lens to read, due to presbyopia) suddenly returned to normal close-up vision. I had to knock the lens out of my glasses before getting a new pair. Also, my optometrist said she has never seen anything like this, or the disappearance of two new cataracts, that we were waiting to “ripen.” I am 72.

I have heard and it makes sense to me that the only possible problem would be if people take medicines and are warned to stay out of the sun - that would be something to be cautious of. I have several devices but my Hooga $40 plus shipping handheld floodlight type device is still my favorite. It is too bright for my eyes and not easy to use on my back so I bought a wrap. I love my red light/infrared - helps aches and pains, eases my bone on bone basal thumb arthritis night pain, healed a abscess on my dog - best device ever. It is my favorite gift to give.

According to Glenn Jeffrey's view: 1. Systemic effect: The idea is that applying red light therapy to one area of the body can potentially have mitochondrial effects throughout the entire body. 2. Whole-body impact: This concept proposes that the benefits of red light therapy aren't limited to just the area of direct application. 3. Mitochondrial communication: The theory might be based on the idea that mitochondria can communicate across the body, potentially spreading the effects of the therapy. 4. Ease of application: If true, this would mean that treating one area could potentially benefit the whole body, making the therapy more convenient. It's important to note that this perspective differs from the more commonly accepted view in the scientific community, which generally considers the effects of red light therapy to be primarily local. While there's ongoing research in this field, the systemic effects of localized red light therapy are not yet widely established or accepted in mainstream scientific literature.

On sunlight discussion, it seems that a certain amount of natural light might be an easier/simpler way to get a good dose of broad spectrum infrared just by sitting or walking in the shade or standing with back to direct sunlight. Early morning or late afternoon may be good too. Many of us likely already get a good dose of infrared due to outside activities.

Hello Richard, I love your channel I thought this was a really great interview It seems like it has different applications I have several lights from EMR TEK Am I correct in understanding or concluding that he feels that just two minutes a day perhaps twice a week would be sufficient to get full reward from such. Do you have the impression that getting red light on all parts of the body is relevant? On one hand, he made it sound quite minimalist like any amount would just turn on a switch But realistically speaking, to me it would seem best to hit the full body for 10 to 20 minutes , thrice a week would be ideal. And his sharing about the children suffering from mitochondrial disfunction having dramatically improved results and improved function of body, seems like an exceptionally beautiful and touching story. 🙏🏼🦋💜 Keep up the great work, Richard

@ModernHealthspan

Hi thanks for the question. I think that really depends on the power that you need. The power of the light (per unit area) reduces by the square of the distance and I guess the power rating of the device is what it outputs. But as Dr Jeffery mentions dosing is hard to calculate.

From the 59:58 min to the 1:01:45 min mark it sounds like a Red Light Therapy session from a device is beneficial at night to help with sleep but that same night session won't help the body makie very much ATP to be used for later? Is this correct? I would like to give my body permission to make ATP anytime and store the rest till needed. Like dividends.

I then asked professor in 1988 what can I do to increase my ATP to make more energy. Funny cause at that time he had no answer. So I kept researching myself and now take suppliments to increase my ATP like gensing and co q10 NADH and resveratrol amino acids etc to many to list. So is there anything you would suggest to further u crease my energy. I use red lite now about last 5 years or more. With degree in Health Ed. I really appreciate this info. Thanks again.

Hi Susy, thanks for you question. According Dr Jeffery the power is not that important and as long as the wavelength is right (from 650 to 900 nm I think is what he said, because over 900 is mostly absorbed by water). It would also depend on the purpose. One note I should add is that Dr Jeffery's studies mostly focus on mitochondria, for metabolism and macular degeneration. Red light is also used to lower inflammation among other things, which we did not discuss much.

Hi Salman, thanks for your question. Dr Jeffery discusses cancer at around 35:50. in summary, he says he excludes people with cancer from his trials because red light does help proliferation, though he has no evidence or specific reason to believe that it would have negative effects on cancer (cause it to proliferate). Just thinking about it as well, if the main effect is to make mitochondria more energetic this may not help cancer which mostly uses glycolysis rather than mitochondria for energy anyway.

Hi thanks. I had a look at the history (on Wikipedia) and why it ended up with that name. Which mostly seems to be because it was the first part of London University founded, then was incorporated into the larger London Uni as University College, London (which makes some sense). It is now independent again and it seems that the name is UCL so I may be incorrect in spelling it out.

Bad name perhaps but obviously a great institution. 👍

You could stand on the lawn in your bare feet with your red light panel. Does it matter if you stand on the grass, the sidewalk or bare ground?

@@user-xf6qf7pm7w supposedly wet grass is best but you can still get it other places like oh the beach, wet sand. I do it on dirt covered by wet sand in my backyard.
