In this video we declare a Statutory Off Road Notice ( SORN ) on our new Land Rover Discovery. We use the .GOV website to do this online.

If you drive it home you need to tax it when you buy it before you drive it on the road. if its not going on the road you will get the new V5 then declare SORN

Can you make your car SORN for a short time say 2 week? then declare it as back on the road after this period?

yes but it wont save you money as you only get refunded for full months...

Why do you have to complete a SORN if the car is off road , on your drive or even parked on private land , with no intention of using the vehicle on a public road in the near future .

If you declare a sorn you are just confirming that you know the car should be taxed etc. Its worth doing to keep on the right side of the law

Hi - just fill in the slip on the V5C that say something like "vehicle is scrapped" and send it off

I bought a car to export it to Mexico, the seller only gave me the green paper for the new guardian and the blue one to export, he did not want to give me the complete v5 and they ask me at my customs office in Mexico, what do you recommend I do? Register it for me name and how could I do it, I have the car in a workshop in the UK

Yes just apply for the new log book in your name in UK. You can do this online. www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle

When you want to tax your car again do you just then tax it normally and not have to do anything else?

Yes the process should just be the same to tax the car... i think you have to wait a period of 5 fays before you can tax it after making a sorn... not sure why !

I'm new to this but can you confirm I bought a car and got given a v5c from 2017 I checked the database and says the vehicle got another v5c in 2019 but when checking the hpi it shows that the vehicle is still under thr 2017 keepers name so the owner was not changed will the v5c still work?

So congratulations on your first car ! If the car is kept on a public road it needs to be taxed and insured - if you can keep the car on your drive then it does not need to be taxed or insured. You will need to declare a SORN ( Statutory Off Road Notice ). One thing to note is insurance is very expensive if you want to insure the car NOW ( when you have passed your test ). It may be worth getting a quote now for what it would be to insure to start in a months time. Also driving your new car with a family member before you pass your test could be useful as you will be able to get used to your car before you pass your test..

You need to tax it and it needs to have MOT and you also need to have insurance to drive the car. To tax the car please go to vehicletax.service.gov.uk/

The problem is i don't have MOT and i cannot sorn the vehicle. I dont want to waste money on a vehicle which is not worth doing MOT.

Hi - you do not need MOT to make a SORN... the SORN was designed for people like you !

Hi, I'm from Mexico. I bought an Austin mini to import it from the UK to Mexico. The seller won't give me his v5. Is it necessary to register it in my name in the UK? According to the page, it is not necessary, what can I do if the person does not want to give me the complete v5, he only gave me the green section 10 again guardian and I cannot import it without the complete v5, I hope you can help me, thank you very much
