Just fitted this. Great looking product and - critically - frees up the front recovery eye. Simon - I’d recommend supplying this with 2x 40mm m10 bolts for the front. The ones supplied are a) too short and b) come with a massive torx head (rubbish tool supplied) - which means they only fit when everything is lined up perfectly (see below), you can’t tighten them sufficiently and you’d never be able to take it off without that tool. Fitting tips: 1) raise suspension (I put axle stands under because I never know when it might lower itself 😳) 2) you can easily cut the plastic in situ with a multi tool if you remove the screws that hold it in place. 3) agree with Simon - you’ll definitely want to angle-grind the washers for the large bolts that secure the brackets. 4) mine still needed a bit of fettling of the brackets - just use a round file as it’s just Aluminium and I only needed to slightly widen 1 hole. 5) as above: replace the torx bolts with 40mm standard bolts. Will make your life much easier.

It seems to work but needs your input on a few details perhaps..I hope the manufacturers will listen! There does seem to be a lot of mud traps in that front…I’m just thinking of rust etc in years to come. I would be thinking to take it all off every Spring to clean it all out.Good work again! I fitted the same kit and ignored the little black plastic plugs. However, the skid plate would not line up no matter what I tried. It was because one of the brackets wasn't quite in the right place. Starting again I realised the importance of these little plugs. Of course you don't have to use them, but it's a good idea to make sure the little holes are lined up. I still had to open up one of the skid plates holes to make sure the bolt would start, but overall very please with the skid plate and quality.

Nice job as always and seems good value when comparing with the genuine product. JLR could have made it so much easier to remove the front cover and added the fixing point at the factory for the genuine part, removing the need to remove the front bumper and therefore probably selling more.

Makes me want a defender just to fit this skid plate.

I liked the protection until it came to first service, I had to put the car over a pit and remove three plates including the front one before I could get access to the sump plug. Would have thought LR would have cut access through the plate to get to the plug? Turned 15 min job into an hour one.

dispite the installation difficulty, which bash plate can take more beat, easy fit or OE? I somewhat think OE is more structurally superior slightly but maybe a false illusion.

Only two things irritate me about the Defender. The fact that the skid plate does not come standard given the rest of the protection. And the relative low profile rims.

I recon it won’t fit on a car with the winch? What options do I have? I already got the black skid plate.
