Powering My House with “The One” by MidNite Solar

It's been one week since I installed "The One" by MidNite Solar and I think it's finally time to see how it does powering my house. We'll run it through a 24 hour cycle and see how it does with all the loads that I have configured to run though my inverters.

Watching these videos of your's make me feel great about my decision to go with Victron, however this little EG4 6000xp is still running my 4 mini splits without an issue, of course I use soalr and Grid to run them, have not tried starting them on battery alone, I need to buy some more capacity, currently only have about 15k.

Is there any wifi connection for the inverter?

@@nanjetyje9447 there is a WiFi/Lan dongle for connecting to internet. They’re in the final stages of finishing up their “remote” app.

our EG4 18KPV handles a leg imbalance of 8,000 watts. and we have never had it shut down. i-am curious why you you did not go that route?

Because EG4 is junk and known to be junk.

@@stevenfrazier8939 is that 8000w when there’s no load on the other leg? How long can it sustain that. My is that I can’t tell how long things are surging on each leg or how much each is pulling unless I’m looking at the inverter. I snagged one of these because no one had any info on them or had tested them. The MidNite name is well known so I wanted to see how well their inverter was. There’s loads of videos about the 18kpv out there.

@@Rangband1 I wouldn’t say that. The 6000xp really surprised me with how well it worked.

8,000 watts per 120V leg with 6,000 watts on the other leg. and with PV: 14.7kW for 10 min, 15.5kW for 5 min and without PV: 13.5kW for 10 min

I think most people with mostly/all electric homes will want at least two of these units if it's not just for critical loads

@@niktak1114 with an all electric home, probably, especially if you don’t want I have to micromanage loads. I guess you could set smart loads for some of the bigger loads, but you better live in a place with guaranteed sun every day… 😁

@@AdamDeLay07 is it possible to program the smart outputs to always be on when the grid is up?

@@niktak1114 that’s a good question. I’ll have to check tomorrow when I get home. I’m thinking that it’s only SOC based. I guess you could make it work that way if you turned on the grid charge feature and had it keep your batteries above the smart load disconnect SOC. I know that’s probably not ideal, but a way to make it work.

Adam I use midnight solar combiner boxes.Fantastic boxes.But this inverter is just like most of the other high frequency inverters.First using the grid for surge, Shutting down because of leg imbalance,Sorry app real time monitoring.And being a beta tester while they try and get the software correct.Midnight solar has a lot of great products,but this inverter is well lets say we will leave it up to the public to decide.hope you like running down to your basement all the time when grid goes down 👎

So having a Victron low frequency inverter is always going to be a plus, when pulling power from L1 and L2? No dropouts or Shutdown’s?

@@mikeg2321 we’ll have to see how things pan out. Like most new things there’s always gonna be improvements or things that just weren’t considered during development (I know we experience this all the time at my day job). MidNite is a great company so I’m sure they’ll get things worked out.

@@simon359 with the Victrons, I have them programmed to switch to the grid when the load gets too high. I almost never know when the switch actually takes place because it’s so seamless.

This is why I don't think these HF inverters are ready for prime time..especially without grid support. The XP pro would have most likely taken that imbalance and surge. I wish midnite would have pushed out a dozen or so of these to the community to test these things in a heavy demanding environment like they did Rosie before they started selling them.

The continuous single leg output of this inverter is higher than the XW Pro, although the XW Pro can do a lot higher for up to a minute (if the output breaker doesn't trip).

@@nealhamilton3881 would have been nice if they did. I’m sure they’ll get everything straightened out though.
