Hi Adam , your help has been invaluable I was looking to switch ac power out while still allowing pv to charge. It looks like when I set unit via the mobile app to standby, both the power out and pv are off ? Is the a way to access just the eps only so that I can switch just the output while maintaining pv charging ? Thanks

Glad to be able to help! Try turning off the EPS switch on the left side of the inverter. I would be very cautious working inside the inverter while PV is still coming in. Not something I would recommend doing.

I just left a comment on Signature Solar's old video on these 6500EX's and wrote the following: I purchased two 6500EX's when they first came out (18-24 months ago?) with the intentions of building a complete system. At that time, I also purchased four EG4 48v/100ah server rack batteries and 8kw of solar panels, all from Signature Solar. As life happens, all of these components are still in the unopened boxes and have simply been occupying a corner of my garage. So, as life continues to happen, I'm just now able to tackle the project. It appears that Signature Solar no longer carries these and I'm guessing that these models had problems or are simply antiquated now? Any advice, updates, or guidance would be greatly appreciated before I start building my system? Thanks in advance for any help

@@bryanward7451 yeah so they ended up discontinuing the 6500s because of a lot of problems that they had coming from the factory. I’ll tell you it’s probably 50/50 whether or not you have issues with the 6500s or they work perfectly fine. So here’s your options. You can attempt to install the 6500s and hope that they work, you can try and sell them and find something else or you can look at utilizing their upgrade program towards their newer model 6000 XP or the 18 KPV. Many people have decided to utilize the upgrade program, you just have to pay extra and send back your old units. signaturesolar.com/upgrade-program

What about checking if there’s a ground and neutral bond in the inverter or your main panel. It might be ghost voltage and may be the reason for cheaper meters not getting a correct reading. Testing a light bulb between the panel and ground if it comes on it’s real electricity. If it does come on then it’s ghost voltage. My guess by the way. And thanks for the great vids.

Thanks for the comment! So the main panel did have a ground neutral bond but the inverter didn't. It turns out that this is a fairly common problem with the cheaper HF inverters. I've gotten quite a few responses from people using the same style inverter (whether SunGoldPower, MPP or EG4). In looking through the DIY Solar Forum, it seems like these cheaper inverters don't have proper isolation between the PV and AC H-Bridge. diysolarforum.com/threads/eg4-6500-voltage-on-pv-terminals.55201/#post-707937

Your in Michigan but I don't know how far north. 22'x22' 484 sq feet. Rule of thumb is 1 ton 12000 btu's per 400 square feet. The best way is to run a manual j heat load calculation. Hi been watching your channel lately. I been running 2 24k btu minisplits with a eg4 6000xp inverter, the temperature in the summer are between 100° and 110°. In order to calculate what size minisplit you have to take into account where you are located, but a 24k btu minisplit should be able to cool your room. I'm going to provide a controversial opinion here. Don't use a mini split. Use two! Also don't worry about sizing. A 24k unit would be more than enough. But instead of using 1 24k unit. Use two 12k units. Mini splits have a great turn down ratio but much of the time one unit will be enough. So most of the year you can run 1 unit but the second one can kick in if it gets really hot or really cold. Also, you have redundancy. If one goes out you still have one working and it's cheaper to replace a 12k than it is to replace a 24k Finally you could even put the heads on opposite sides of the room for more even distribution. You can get two 12k monitors for less than $1400. Do not mount on the wall. They have an audible vibration.

I'll add another successful EG4 ac/dc story. My traditional carrier 3 ton Central Florida 3000 square-foot home is now far less toasty due to the combination of a 24k and 12k effectively chilling my (within envelope) close cell spray foam attic 24/7 to ~65f, effectively chilling my home from above through the drywall. My ceiling temperatures are typically a 5 to 7° delta to the floor temperature which creates a convection effect with cool air falling and warm rising. I did the mr kool,24k DIY 4 years ago and still works great. 750 sqfoot with valted ceiling. No problems with 30 degrees offset. 100 outside 70 inside. The blower started making a little noise but not enough to take time to replace. Getting replacement parts was a little tricky but found a solid supplier. Over the years there 24k design has changes so do your homework. Runs 100% on my solar 1800 watts to start the cool down. When the target temp and room temp are within 2 degrees the unit only draws 900 watts at active cooling. Midea U shaped is my preferred for window unit super quiet they make 8,10 and 12K. 8k are in stock but 12K are 2 month lead time. 12K will get you 500sq feet. Yes, so if you have the CTs on the grid mains on your main panel, Solar and battery will be used to power loads on your AC Output connection and your AC Input up to the CTs. There should be checksums / CRCs / MD5s or any other number of validation methods to ensure that the inverter only ever attempts to use 100% correct files / images / etc and that any reads or writes of the stick also results in a guarantee that the data read / written is in turn 100% valid or rejected.

Agreed. Thankfully the worst thing I saw happen was just the corrupted labels on the display. Either that or it just wouldn’t load the data.

Questions? 1.) What are the changes? 2.) Is there a change log that list what changed from this version from the last version? 3.) Does it keep your settings you entered when you first setup the inverter? Thanks for this information.

1 and 2. I know Ian is working on getting a changelog for all updates. 3. Yes it retains your current settings.

Great teardown man. Do you see anything preventing you from theoretically attaching your own backup battery to the unit, aside from the port itself? Or charging it via a 60V battery over XT-60 instead of solar? It doesn't look like there's obvious logic that would prevent a different battery from working but hard to say.

Thanks! I didn't see anything specifically. I would think any battery within the voltage range should work. Be aware that some charge controllers bridge the positive and negative pv connections together when the battery is full and charging is supposed to stop. That would instantly short circuit any connected battery through the pv terminal.

@@AdamDeLay07 Awesome, thanks for the heads up. Might regret it but I actually just pulled the trigger on a Dabbsson Prime day deal since there's more expandability options. I'll probably try something similar but I really like how they split the load across both inverters if I ended up just attaching a second unit to it.
