A quick solution for powering the Tascam Portacapture X8 using USB C. While you can use any power bank for this, we liked the sleek and lightweight feel of the Baseus model, and it provided more than enough extended battery power for our usage. This might be beneficial for people who are doing extended outdoor shoots, field recording, documentary work, or even weddings.

I was wondering if you use rechargeable batteries the USBC can recharge them?

We use one of these in the music studio as a dedicated device for encoding vinyl. Phono preamp >> X8, powered by USB. I didn't trust batteries for this, but there's likely no difference in sound.

Very useful video. Def helpful just what I was looking for. i have some long events coming up Hopefully with phantom I can get about 4 hours off a bank and some Energizer liths

@@MeridianMedia yea just finished the shoot. Lasted 4 hours no phantom power it was nice. I was afraid there might be some low hum or hiss when it was plugged in but so far so clean on the scroll thru

Thanks for the video. Does the device still have the ultrasonic tone issue in the higher frequencies when recording at 96k/192khz? (can be seen as a horizontal line in spectral view).

I had the same concern, but they've fixed that in the recent versions now shipping from Amazon. If you happen to get an older one, Tascam is aware of the bug and should replace it.

Hi there! Thanks for your comment, glad you found the info useful! Yes, you can definitely power the Tascam Portacapture X8 using a V Mount battery. Most V Mount batteries come with a USB-C output, which works perfectly for this purpose. I recommend checking out the Smallrig Mini V-Mount as it’s compact and reliable. Happy recording!

Could you add a LINK to the "90 degree USB cable" that refined your Velcro/Power-bank set-up? Great solution to the shortish battery life powering the Tascam x8 Better than the Tascam BP-6AA battery pack and a cheaper solution!

If 10,000 mAh got you 16 hours of power with the x8, any thoughts on how long you might get with a 5000 mAh power bank ?

I haven't tested this, but my guess would be that a 5000 mAh power bank would provide approximately 8 hours of power. This is under the assumption that the power consumption rate of the recorder remains constant.

Why not use rechargeable lithium intern 4XAA?? Maybe not 16h but for sure at least 10h - all the troubles, the cable disconnecting and how it looks...

Thanks for your suggestion about using rechargeable lithium 4XAA batteries! I've experimented with them in the past, but in my experience, they've only provided around 4 hours of power, which is significantly less than what I need for longer sessions. The main reason for choosing a USB power bank setup is to extend the operational time far beyond what internal batteries offer. While the setup with cables might not be the most elegant solution, it hasn't been a concern in terms of functionality or professionalism in my workflow. It’s always interesting to hear how others manage their gear, and I'm all for exploring different options to find the most efficient solutions. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
