Huge success!! Just tried it today. Was hesitant like previous post so I just used the Colgate on a small portion of a 5 inch scratch (which was not deep and probably not deep enough into the paint and only into the clear coat). Used a teeth whitening Colgate with baking soda and peroxide and I can no longer see the scratches. Thank you for this posting and saving me perhaps $200.

This video saved a great deal of my rav4's front fender and bumper today. I was horrified when I hit the garage door while backing up this morning from my garage and scraped a huge part of the front fender and part of the bumper on the driver's side. There were huge scratches and white paint transfer all over. I panicked and immediately went to youtube for diys to fix the scratch and I found this video. I rubbed the scratch with tooth paste for almost 30-45 minutes re applied the colgate 4-5x and it was a miracle. Thank you so much.

It actually works on faint scratches. Amazing. All dependent on how the scratches are and if proper deep then it won't work. I tried it, I had faint scratches on my BMW and it worked. Thanks 👍🏼

Unbelievable….just saved me a fortune. Have a rental car which looks like someone ran a key down the entire length of. Was almost resigned to losing a hefty deposit. Can confirm this works was parked left for a haircut this morning and the back door of the passenger side got scratched by the pole left unfortunately my barber got caught up in something canceled it and watched this video and hoping this worked and the scratch on my 2013 charger was gone most likely saved me over 50 bucks thanks so much!

T-Cut or compound will take scratches out depending how deep the scratch is, if it’s gone through the colour you won’t get them out

colgate *MIGHT* do a little but the reason it worked in the video is because its a clear coat scratch… pouring water on a clear coat scratch makes it look like it disappears because water is filling the scratch so the light reflects off of it like there is no scratch. once the water drys, the scratch will come back. I doubt colgate is a permanent solution, but, worth a shot I guess.

Well, it's not a scratch and colgate worked to a great extent. I won't say it worked 💯 percent, but it did 90%. That's enough to bring a smile on our face. Hope it works for you as well. God bless, ☮️

Applying water to a clear coat scratch will make it temporarily disappear. After it dries, however the scratch is still there. So how are we supposed to tell if the scratches are gone when water is continually being applied? I'm sure that some scrubbing with toothpaste (a lot more than shown in the video) would help reduce the appearance of the scratch since the toothpaste is slightly abrasive but it's not going to happen in three minutes.

@@vikashirnaik8546 And once you wash it, the detergent removes the oil and your scratches are back. Just spend $10 on some Maguiers compound from an auto store and 20-30 minutes and you can fix a fair number of scratches. Paste wax after.

Interesting. I use WD 40 and a Mr.Clean regular pad on car body scratches. Works great! Toothpaste and baking soda on headlights.

yes it does work my car had yellow paint on it I used lemon, baking soda and Colgate toothpaste (not brightening toothpaste) it also works to clean the covering on the head lights 😋😋

Great video !!! im gonna try this because I have paint transfer and top coat scratches. I watched several videos and it seems that toothpaste greatly improves the appearance of or removes most of the scratch depending on the severity even after the vehicle is dry. I also have heard that toothpaste is good for headlight restoration. Thanks for the video. Anyone who shares knowledge trying to help others is a great person. Someone mentioned buffing compound which works but EVERYONE has toothpaste in their home making it convenient and it is much cheaper.

I use regular Colgate, baking soda, table salt and about 2 tablespoons of Pepsi or coke for the headlights. I use WD-40 and a cloth or better Mr. Clean pad with the WD-40 to get the paint off from another car scratching it and leaving paint on the car. Let WD-40 sit on it for about 10 secs before rubbing off. Cover other areas of car near the scratched area with newspaper using masking tape (not a heavy tape)to hold to keep it clean.

‼️☝️ Major remarks : - will only possibly work on very light superficial scratches (not going deep throughout your paint) or marks from rubber or paint that have been left over your car’s paint (someone’s bumper or car element) - no need to « wait ». There’s no chemical reaction here, just a mechanical action from the micro abrasive particles of your toothpaste to remove unwanted deposits and polish the paint more evenly. - wash the whole area with soap and rinse with much water before doing the toothpaste. - rub gently, preferably with straight back and forth motions rather than circles. - result may be a little bit dull and matte, if so a step of auto polishing may be needed to restore a bright look.

They sell small amounts of touch up paint at the dealership. Not expensive at all but very small amounts. For those tiny spots

Does the scratch come back after drying? Because when you are using water the water is filling the scrapped surface of the car and in the sun it gets a complete reflection. But it would come back after drying.

No I believe only those two patches will need repainting but that's really small compared to the Original scratches.

Any colour it doesn’t matter will work even it’s black dark I have on the door side I just tried it didn’t remove any scratch😩

It didn’t work for me. After rinsing the toothpaste the scratch was more visible and it also left a whitish stain on the paint. I had to go and get it polished and the whitish stain disappeared including the scratch. Polishing actually helped as long as it is not too deep.

Actually a buffing compound is cheaper than toothpaste per oz and works better.
