Three years too late for the drawing, but you are slowly making me a Power Pole addict. I think I bought that big strip from MFJ around 2000 sometime and carried it with me in our RV when we went full-timing, but working 100- hour weeks meant I never used it. The next time I get up to Chicago to my son's house I will check my storage boxes marked Ham Radio to see if I still have it. I made it AA4YU. I noticed that on the largest, the MFJ-1128 the total fused value of the output legs exceeds the input fuse. To me that is a bit of a design flaw as you can overrun your input fuse without any of the legs being over their current limits. It would also be nice if the input side were protected by a breaker so you would not have to keep replacement fuses on hand for that situation.
@hamradiotube
@hamradiotube 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah a breaker on the input would be nice. It's really not a big deal what fuses are on the other side. You can put whatever you want, just don't exceed 20amps total on that side. You would have to have radios "on" on all of the other outlets and then transmit with one of them to go over. I only have 1 thing plugged into that side so far, so time will tell I suppose. Thanks for watching! 73

Just received info today that the rigrunner drops voltage by 1v. So if someone is using a 12v battery “go box” to supply power to a radio, then it seems that with a 1v loss down to 11v for a radio would be a very bad thing. That would even be before transmitting. Is this common knowledge, or am I just such a newbie that I wasnt aware of this 1v loss?
@hamradiotube

Sounds more like fake news to me. Although none of these are made by rig runner, so I can't comment on that brand, but these are really just outlet strips. Pretty simple design and I have experienced zero voltage loss on any of the 4 that I use.

Are they all 30 amp size power poles?
@hamradiotube
@hamradiotube 2 жыл бұрын
You can fuse them however you want if that's what you're asking. The total current at any one time should not exceed 40 amps for the first 3 (labeled 1,2, & 3). For the powerpoles that are connected to the switch (labeled (4-12) there is a max current of 20 amps. It still doesn't matter how you fuse them though.
@black75powder
@black75powder 2 жыл бұрын
Mike I may not have worded that very well. When I search power poles there seems to be three different sizes. 15/ 30/ 45 . I’m wondering what size power poles what I need to connect to these. Matt KO4WRY
@hamradiotube
@hamradiotube 2 жыл бұрын
@@black75powder Ahh, ok. That's easy. Any of those will fit. The current rating is for the part that crimps onto the wire, not the housing itself. Also for wire size. 15-45amp will all fit the same housing and you can mix and match what they are connected to. For example, my tuner uses pretty thin wire, so I have a 15 amp power pole crimped onto that. My 7300 uses 12awg wire, so I have a 45 amp crimped on. If I wanted to connect it to 30 amp or whatever, on the power strip, or any other power pole, it would do it no problem. That's how they are designed. Now when you get bigger than 45 amp, the housing is a bigger size so they would not be compatible at that point. All 15, 30, and 45 amp power poles are interchangeable and interconnectable. Hope that helps.
