I feel grateful this reconditioning program kzfaq.infoUgkxcJ22tnHH9l1vjdIdEIG27iOG55P7LXI8 was started. I had Three dead batteries scheduled for disposing of. Having said that, I tried out reconditioning them and it took me only an hour to do it! It doesn`t matter what type of battery you want, the process works.

Thanks very much for your video, it certainly clarified the different types of battery’s available, we do loads of wild camping and we were always running short on power from our deep cycling lead acid battery even with solar power so I’ve just ordered a 120 amp hour AGM battery with a 5 year warranty, hopefully that’s the fix. Thanks again Andy 🤙

Another great video Dave, I suspect my battery in my camper needs replacement, my Vw T5.1 conversion (by Nomad) has a 110 amp lead acid leisure battery, my power distribution /charger is a bonus electrical PSM 3v , which is in a van converted in 2013 , if I have to buy a new battery I would like to fit an AGM battery,but I’m finding-it impossible to get anywhere an answer if the psm3 is capable of safely running an AGM battery , I have a compressor vitrifrigo fridge, led spot lamps and downright, and one small fluorescent tube lamp, a propex heater and water pump (whale submerged) I don’t think the battery is charging from the van much as it’s a stop start engine, it gets plugged in at home to charge , I would in future like to add a solar panel, so far I mostly camp on hookups, but would like to be able to be off hookup or wild camp occasionally at least for the odd night, please can you shed any light on the agm question?

If you’re vehicle is stop start and engine battery is AGM normally the case, should your leisure battery also be AGM, I’m about to change my leisure battery (charges but drops very quickly just with led lights on ) currently it’s 110ah and clearly past its days but being wet lead acid type it’s also very heavy, do the lithium l4pos types need a special charge-set up from engine and hookup? They are being marketed as straight swap retrofit

No. Yep batteries just doubles the capacity. This means you can power your stuff for twice as long. Also means it takes twice as long to charge it all back up again.

Very helpful, many thanks. Could you do a video on solar and batteries please? Would a solar setup alone be enough to fully charge the batteries if they went down to 50% on an overcast day?

Overcast no sun= best Pv Cells MT CIS cells. Lets say 160 wp installed....they will charge with 1 amps..so no way! Overcast sunny, 2 Amps also no way.. (asume a standard Rv has about 80 - 100 Ah batt cap..so you need to recharge 5,5 - 9,5 hours with 5- 9 Amps...to get 50 Ah to be efilled! Experience is a 160 Wp Solar ( 2 panels) gives no more than 8 /9 amps permament and at best ( SUNSHINE, SUMMER, 12 o Clock no shade) so summer no Problem, at all, heat reduces efficiency though..winter you need a larger battery and eventually go to the grit for 1 h or 2 after 3 - 4 days or drive and charge ( best with Booster) I do have a Lifephos installed 160 Ah, with B to B, so can discharge more than 80% no damage, voltage stays..solar trickle no issue, power recharge 40 Amps plus Solar..no problem..refill in 1 - 2 h no problem + 60 % less weigth ( I carry 27 kg instead of 72 - removed 2 100 amps Agms.) ideal,would be 2 MT CIS cells ( ideal when overcast and partially shaded) plus 2 x flex 100 Watt, low weigth in series to apply MPPT that covers all! ( including fridge and aircon in summer) love Daves Videos

so the AGM battery sounds near enough to an all rounder, is that correct?
@ocomin8089
@ocomin8089 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Koudacyen, The Answer to that is a BIG NO! I've just had over a month in Northern France, and a pair of AGM's in my Hymer T failed on the 1st Day. Now, to start with, the deception arose as rdsult of my panel reading voltage between 13.8v & 14. 4v. Didn't have my AMP Meter with me, so struggled to get to the bottom of it. Rang my Motorhome Electrician, away on Hols, so with a list of the symptoms rang the Electroblock Specialists A&N in North Wales, no response, so eMailed them, received confirmation that my batteries were doubtless KAPUT + Possibly damaged Electroblock. The false reading on panel seems to be down to the Solar Panel, So..after some consultation as to the Battery type in situ, 2x "AGM's, Start, Stop" He..."No, No, wrong" Not suitable for Motorhomes" especially with an Schault Electroblock Control System. You need "VARTA LFD90 Pro 90 Ah" or "YUASA L35-100 12v 100Ah" both are Deep Cycle. Did a lot of internet research & came away with a good understanding of the nature of the the VARTA & the YUASA. Managed to run for the month + on 240v connections. Got home, tested the Batteries, 1x read 00.0v & the other 11.4v so yes, both Kaput, opted for the VARTA & fortunately my Electroblock wasn't damaged. So, trust someone like A&N, they are experts, look them up.

I used 6 85amp/hour batteries to run my house off grid with 2 kilowatts of panels. I used a 3500 watt pure sine wave inverter with a plug socket in each room for off grid. Only problem was the 80amp charge controllers kept going wrong and over charging so I gave up.

What about charging multiple batteries from a split charge system do each battery need a charger? or will one charger do them all in series?

What about the 14.8 charge you need for the AGM battery,which most motorhomes don't have so you will not get 100% charge

Gel batt the best. Cost more and will last longer. Acid batts even with regulator fitted on solar panel you will have to check time to time as the heat slowly drys them out.

I have a question, I have (4) 100ah AGM batteries and (4) 140 watt solar panels with MTTP charge controller and a 2800 watt pure sine inverter. I'm trying to power my residential refrigerator with limited success, I use about 200 ah per 12 hours (you see the problem) I really can't get thru the night without generator help to prevent over discharging my batteries. My AGM batteries are about 2 years old and can't justify all new batteries, so my questions is.... can add 2 more AGM batteries for a total of 6? I know they should be the same age in a perfect world but budget does come in to play here. Also the second bank would have to be in a another bay with about 8 feet of cable. I can't seem to find any information on this type of set up.
@TheOriginalCopyDog
@TheOriginalCopyDog 7 жыл бұрын
I built this setup before and From personal experience, I can tell you the problem is not with the battery bank. it's with your fridge and inverter. If you put an amp meter between the battery and the inverter you will see that it peaks over 10amps when the fridge starts and draws 8 - 10 amps whilst the fridge is running and 1 -2 amps on standby. This will drain your batteries very quickly. If you add more batteries to the bank, the mppt may not be able to handle that capacity. it will also increase your maintainence costs on the batteries particularly if your run your batteries below 12.4volts because that will dramatically reduce the cycle of the batteries. It also adds more weight costing you more in fuel. I realise that cost is an issue but may I suggest spending your money on a new 12v fridge rather then more batteries. With out getting to technical, a 12v fridge will use 50 - 60% less power. Providing it doesn't rain for more then 2 days in a row, I can run indefinitely on 240 watts solar MPPT controller 2 x 105 ah lead acid batteries running a 110lt fridge, lighting, charging for phones ect and a tv/dvd. Your set up would more then do the job if you change the fridge and took the inverter out of the equation. Simply by keeping your batteries above 12.5 volts you can almost double the cycles on your batteries saving your money in the long run...
