enduro trucker Ernie Desjardins worth every gouge and scratch. Learning this shit gets you away from the police when you crossing on private lands. Especially if you live in uk. The government fucked our freedom too ride. They closed down local tracks saying it breaks the planning laws. So we ride waste lands then the police trying to take your bikes off you and crush them and leaving you with a court appearance. Practicing these types of skills keeps the filth off ya back.

You could make a pretty simple linkage guard by bolting a rubber or hard plastic flap to your skidplate, would protect your linkage a bit from hitting anything an helps sliding over stuff on your skidplate

Work on your rear brake technique as well. You can use the rear brake to bring your front end down as soon as your rear wheel is over the edge which will allow you to throw more weight forward. Keep practicing! I crashed a lot doing that kind of step up.
