Bob Reynolds is a Grammy Award-winning tenor saxophonist known for his work with Snarky Puppy, John Mayer, and 8 solo albums. He is a D'Addario Woodwinds artist.
LONGER BIO
Saxophonist Bob Reynolds is an in-demand jazz performer, educator, and sideman, as well as a regular member of the Grammy Award-winning band Snarky Puppy. Born in Morristown, New Jersey in 1977, Reynolds grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, where he first started playing saxophone at age 13. Although he listened to a range of music as a kid, by his late teens he was a dedicated jazz student. After high school he honed his skills at Boston's Berklee College of Music, where he mentored with George Garzone, Hal Crook, and others. As a leader, he debuted with 2000's The Bob Reynolds Quartet, followed by 2006's Can't Wait for Perfect. That same year, he joined fellow Berklee alum John Mayer's band and spent the next five years with the pop star, touring and appearing on such albums as 2008's Where the Light Is and 2009's Battle Studies.
In 2013, he returned to his solo work with Somewhere in Between, which reached number one on digital jazz charts. He then made his Snarky Puppy debut appearing on the genre-bending group's 2014 effort, We Like It Here. Two years later he was back with Snarky Puppy for the Grammy Award-winning Culcha Vulcha. In 2017, Reynolds delivered the EP Guitar Band, which featured appearances from Kneebody bassist Kaveh Rastegar as well as fellow Snarky Puppy members Robert "Sput" Searight (drums) and Mark Lettieri (guitar). ~ Matt Collar

Man it is such a relief seeing someone like you practice this things, and having this little mistakes although you've been playing professionally for so long. It makes me feel a lot more easy on myself. It demonstrates that we are all human, and that unless you practice, that you put the effort, stuff is not going to just appear out of the blue. You are a huge inspiration Bob. Thanks man.

I almost skipped this video because you said it would be boring for non-saxophone players. Glad I didn't.

I've started learning jazz for about three months and was soooo confused about the balance between theoretical stuff and actual inprovisation, but man your video just clarified everything. I think I finally get it what "find your own stuff" meant just thanks alot man I definitely became a huge fan of you

Just learning how to place a chromatic approach tone to any note, either above and/or below and in any key is very useful for soloing. Good video.

I know this was a while back but damn, 11pm??? I love your practice space. One of the biggest limitations to practicing for me is that I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. Would love to hear how you built that space - something I'd like to do someday and also if you have any tips for soundproofing the horn (e.g. have you tried any of those soundproof cases?)

Hey man, I've really been enjoying these videos, I hope you're doing well! I was wondering if you could maybe give some pointers on how to make life easier for sax players when you're playing with them? Just some things that are either annoying or appreciated from the perspective of a sax player. Thanks in advance.:)

When it comes to musical and theoretical exercises, nothing is specific to saxophone. All instruments can benefit from things such as this.

That's cool. One question, do you use your side keys frequently? I have had teachers tell me to use my side keys and others that told me it doesn't really matter. I have started using my side C and Bb keys primarily for the past year and now I'm caught in an awkward in between instinct of side keys and flipping (B to C) and rolling biss like you just did. Do you have any opinions on the two methods?

Peter Trigiani have control of all possibilities; use most ergonomic for any given scenario. I use side C when it makes life easier, etc.
