On May 8th, 2022, Prairie Dog Central ran their excursion to Grosse Isle once again for the first time in about two years!
In 2020, the PDC had to cancel all dates for passenger train trips due to the virus, same goes for 2021. The situation was a little better last year but not good enough to have crowds out for the train. However in 2022, they announced they were running once again! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to shoot them again!
I biked out from the east end of town all the way out to 'Inkster Junction' their shop and station. When I got there, their steam engine, No. 3, was steamed up. SD40 5232 was actually providing some air pressure to 3 for a while.
Later on, GP9 4138 brought the cars and even the caboose and generator car, to the station platform. And soon after that, Number 3 was on the move! It turned itself around at the Wye, blowing the whistle for the people standing and watching before backing onto the train.
I then caught up to it just south of the tiny town of Gordon, MB as I was chasing it to Grosse Isle... ON BIKE. The flooded ditch made for a really nice reflection!
I then met it at Grosse Isle where they had just finished turning the train around. and were pulling back towards the little heritage village. This time with the Caboose up front.
I was actually offered a ride back south from the PDC staff! I can't thank them enough for that, they were shocked that I managed to get on bike from my end of town to their yard and up to Grosse Isle. If I would've biked back it would've been a nearly 70km ride, LOL.
So we brought my bike up on the back of the train and we took off heading south from Grosse Isle back to the city. Once we got there I moved over to watch PDC 3 back into the shed area.
I actually got a cab ride in PDC 4138 as it was switching the cars, that'll be it's own video on my other channel! Link will be here when It's uploaded.
