Lawyer-activist Prashant Bhushan has been hitting the headlines of late (again) - this time for 'scandalizing the court' and posting tweets that were in 'contempt'. Be it mocking the present CJI SA Bobde for sitting atop a 50 lakh bike or raising questions over the actions of past 4 SC Chief Justices....Prashant Bhushan has been relentless in questioning the judicial system.
After a lot of heated arguments and asking for a sorry - the top court fined him a grand total of Re 1. While the verdict can be termed as a moral victory for Bhushan, the case left the country pondering over the current state of judicial system and many are raising questions over the working of the courts.

I too was against him a few years ago, but as time passed by, my biases weakened and realization crept in, that he is doing all of it for the common man and for the rule of law. The common man does not have the financial capacity to climb the steps of the SC. Looking to the SC for justice is out of question for him. The types of Prashanth, are the ones who felicitate justice for the common man at large.

I personally feel that this statement is a bit skewed. Your stand cant be based on the severity of the penalty. What sort of a stand would that be. What if the penalty is too harsh to bear .... should one back out then. Thats not what men of honour do.

Very very underrated comment! This is what education means and this is what education should teach us to do. Education is not about earning degrees; it is about learning to question everyone and everything and developing basic critical thinking to see what is right and wrong for yourself based on actual facts instead of being manipulated and misled by biased and prejudiced views of others.

I feel so pained to see people turning into zombies, though students are getting more mark may degrees but seriously loosing their thinking skills. And it is specifically very dangerous when we have more youth population .

There is a statement that he made in this conversation that people are forgetting the difference between perception and reality (actual and perceived reality) due to mass influence/manipulation of several forms of media by ruling govt. That is where logical reasoning and critical thinking is so essential to know the truth.

That's the problem... I'm glad you realized this. What you see in media is things that are either completely fabricated, manufactured and/or manipulated OR quoted out of context. Everybody who has been declared anti-national in last 5-6 years, if you actually listen to their FULL speeches and/or statements, you will realize they have always been right and govt has always been wrong. @@ageless1003 no.......reservations are not solutions especially when our education system and job system is so exam centric and reservations provide clear advantage without any reason...i still know guys belonging to Obc caste but they were richer than me....if in education the only issue is financial stability then why reservations! Just provide the poor with all they need to attain a proper education to qualify an examination of that level...even i am not of the upper tier i belong to the middle to middle lower tier but still that Obc guy easily got into a good college good stream at a lesser mark than many of the deserving general candidates...

Dear Akash, Over the past few days I have come to respect and trust Prashant Bhushan, and if he says things about Arvind Kejriwal that are in some ways similar to what you had to say in one of your earlier episodes about the man, I believe I owe you an apology. I had reacted somewhat strongly to your comments at the time, but now realise that you were right and I was wrong. For the record my chronological age is fairly close to that of Prashant Bhushan's, but when it comes to awareness about happenings around us, I realise that I am a mere babe in the woods. Sorry !

Yes, there are no two paths for right and wrong. He stands tall on teh shoulders of Socrates, Thoreau and Gandhiji--I will oppose the laws of an unjust state and I will gladly accept the punishment of the laws of that state because I live in it. The court gave two punishment--both are punishments--Re 1 or jail and barred from practice. Socrates drank hemlock as a result.
