ഡിഗ്രിക്ക് Astrophysics ന്റെ ക്ലാസ് തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ ആദ്യം സാർ പറഞ്ഞത് "net ലും മറ്റും കാണുന്ന വർണാഭമായ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ ഒക്കെ കണ്ടിട്ട് astro എടുക്കരുത് എന്നാണ്. നമ്മൾ ഫിസിക്സിന്റെ മറ്റു മേഖലകളിൽ പഠിച്ച പല കാര്യങ്ങളും നമുക്കിവിടെ ആവശ്യം വരും. നല്ല പോലെ theory ഉണ്ടാവും." പിന്നെ equations ന്റെ കാര്യത്തിൽ തോന്നിയിട്ടുള്ളത്, അതിന്റെ mathematical form മാത്രം കാണുമ്പോഴാണ് അത് boring ആയി തോന്നുക. ആ equation പറയുന്ന ഫിസിക്സ് മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ പറ്റുമ്പോളാണ് അതിന്റെ സൗന്ദര്യം മനസ്സിലാവുക.

പൊതു വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ കാലത്ത് ടീച്ചർസ് ൻ്റെ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്ന രീതി കുട്ടികളുടെ പഠനത്തെ വല്ലാതെ ബാധിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

Byheart ചെയ്ത ഒരു equation ഇൽ കുറേ substitution നടത്തി result എഴുതിക്കുന്നതിനു പകരം, open book exam implement ചെയ്യുക. അപ്പോൾ teacher ക്ക് നല്ല challenge ആകും. The problem in our education system is not the content, it's the presentation and lack of practical knowledge experience by the teachers. Derive ചെയ്യാതെ (either from first principles or from already learned equations) ചുമ്മാ കാണാതെ പഠിപ്പിയ്ക്കുന്ന equations പലപ്പോഴും നമ്മുടെ syllabus ൽ കടന്നു വരാറുണ്ട്. അവയോട് എനിയ്ക്ക് എന്നും പുച്ഛമാണ്. ചെറിയ ക്ലാസ്സിൽ വച്ചു പഠിച്ച area of circle ഉം perimeter of circle ഉം മാത്രമാണ് derivation ഇല്ലാതെ കാണാതെ പഠിയ്ക്കേണ്ടി വന്നിട്ടുള്ളതിൽ ഞാൻ ക്ഷമിച്ച equations (calculus പഠിയ്ക്കാതെ ഇതു രണ്ടും derive ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റില്ലല്ലോ, അതുകൊണ്ട്).

When I was in college, there was a debate session on this topic.Majority said many equations are not useful for daily life.But my opinion is these equations are being utilised in day to day life.Eg.Sin,Cos,tan is used for finding angles.This is used in sending satellites to space and now we know how satellite is important in our daily life.

സുഹൃത്തേ, physics ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള ഒരു വ്യക്തിക്ക് അതിൽ degree നേടണം എന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ (നല്ല govt കോളേജിൽ) +2 ൽ biology യ്കും chemistryക്കും full mark vaanganam എന്നതാണ് വിഷയം. Same with Computer engineering ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള ഒരു വിദ്യാർഥി entrance ന് maths, physics, chemistry എന്നിവ പഠിച്ചാലെ പറ്റു. That's not fair. 🙂

Excellent talk... Acceptable Analysis and Logical Statements... Although, all pupils are not capable to process arithmetical-logical calculations like derivations using mathematics or statistical methods. So while providing general education we have to make an opportunity for students to choose what they like to study, at least at the high school and secondary school levels. Of course, those who like physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computer science will eventually fall in love with algebra, trigonometry, calculus so on, however, not everyone is capable of these because they are not intellectually inferior but they may be more favourable for social sciences, arts and sports, or more thrive on subjective approaches... Individuals are diverse, especially in our cognitive domain, and everyone is stronger or weaker to some extent to understand either objective or subjective approaches.

In psychology there is a theory of vicarious learning, which says how people learn behaviours by observing others. The trend lately has been to criticize the educational system and many people ranging from young students to even some doctorate holders blindly criticize the system without actually understanding the essence of what is wrong with the system. This makes students feel aversion towards anything that is taught in syllabus. I do agree there are loopholes, but even when some best teachers try to teach concepts brilliantly, students tend to play cool and not give enough importance to studies. In such situation there is no point talking about how people without proper teaching skills ruin the interest of handful of students who are passionate about their subjects. From my personal experience, I remember to this day how I read the maths text many times to make sense of what that "axiom" was implying. I remember how the class made fun of the teacher who tried his best to help us understand what "tends to zero" means. The English teacher who said "education is what remains once you have forgotten everything you learned in school" is also fresh in my memory. The "ideas" were difficult for me to understand at that small age. But the time spent on trying to understand it have surely helped me later. Everything they teach and not teach in schools (science, humanities and everything in between) does play a role in helping us understand the world around. Yet, as a person who remember schrodinger's cat when having to deal with complex human emotions and draw parallels between all subjects and current affairs, sometimes it feels "ignorance is bliss" 😅

To be frank some of the so called 'motivational speakers' are actually misguiding a large 'vulnerable' population , and it is just an extension of 'backbencher vs frontbencher useless jokes' . Unless people realize that without effort no one can make any progress in life - such 'vulnerable' population will just go behind those pseudo motivational short videos . Everything that we use - say a laser measurement tool - it is just an application of simple equations that we all studied as kids. That is where the governments have to have people with common sense to be in the educational department to identify what is the most essential component in imparting knowledge to young people. Your dissemination of the subject is exceptionally excellent with full of critical facts in the most concise style. What does the educational institutions lack is quality teachers. To select an aspirant to be a teacher it shall be made mandatory to have the individual to undergo a competitive examination for assessment of requisite talents. In our State and Country 90% of the people who opt to undertake teaching as a profession are the ones who would not qualify for any good job. When they fail to get selection for a job they loved, they jump into the teaching bandwagon. I know many a teacher who are good for nothing. Just left overs.

ഞാൻ ബി ടെക് കഴിഞ്ഞ് ഇപ്പോൾ അധ്യാപകനായി work ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു വ്യക്തിയാണ്. ബി ടെക് പഠിക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്നെ യാതൊരു അപ്പ്ളിക്കേഷനില്ലാതെ മാത്സ് പഠിച്ച് ഉത്തര കടലാസിൽ ഛർദ്ദിച്ചു വച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഓരോ Equations ഉപകരമുണ്ട് പക്ഷെ അത് കൃത്യമായി വിദ്യാർഥികളെ ബോധ്യപ്പെടുത്തി പ്രായോഗികവൽക്കരിച്ചു കാണിച്ചാൽ മാത്രമേ അത് പഠിക്കുന്നതിൽ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്ക് ഒരു ഹരം തോന്നുകയുള്ളൂ.. നമ്മളൊക്കെ എങ്ങെനെ പോയാലും കുറഞ്ഞത് പന്ത്രണ്ട് കൊല്ലം ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പടിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടാകില്ലേ എന്നിട്ട് എത്രപ്പേർക്ക് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഒരു രണ്ട് ലൈൻ എങ്കിലും തെറ്റാതെ പറയാൻ സാധിക്കും.?? പക്ഷെ ഒരു മൂന്ന് മാസത്തെ spoken ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ക്ലാസിന് പോയ ഒരാൾക്ക് സിംപിൾ ആയി എന്ത് കൊണ്ട് മുകളിൽ പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യം പറയാനും സാധിക്കുന്നു.??? അവിടെയാണ് നമ്മുടെ സിലബസിന്റെയും അധ്യാപകരുടെയും പ്രശ്നം. കുറച്ചു സമയം കൊണ്ട് ഒരുപാട് കാര്യങ്ങൾ തള്ളി കയറ്റാൻ നോക്കുന്ന അച്ചടക്കമില്ലാത്ത സിലബസാണ് നമുക്കുള്ളത്.. പത്താം ക്ലാസ്സിലെ ഒരു കുട്ടിക്ക് Maths ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുള്ള subject ആണെങ്കിൽ അവർക്ക് ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ കട്ടിക്ക് 11 ചാപ്ടറുകൾ പഠിക്കാൻ നൽകി സിലബസ് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ശിരോമണികൾ ആഹ്ലാദം കൊള്ളുകയാണ് ചെയ്തത്... അതേ സമയം ഉള്ളത് 8 ചാപറ്ററാണെങ്കിൽ അത് കൃത്യമായി പഠിപ്പിക്കുകയല്ലേ വേണ്ടത്.. 10 മാസത്തെ ഇടുങ്ങിയ സമയം കൊണ്ട് സ്പോർട്ട്സും ആർട്ട്സും മറ്റു ലീവുകളും കഴിഞ്ഞുള്ള അധ്യാപകരുടെ ഓട്ട പാച്ചിലാണ് നമുക്ക് കാണാൻ സാധിക്കുക.. ഇപ്പോഴും മലയാളം വായിക്കാൻ അറിയാത്ത കുട്ടികൾ പത്തിലും പ്ലസ് ടൂവിലും പഠിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ ആലോചിച്ചു നമ്മുടെ പണ്ഡിത സഭ ചേർന്നുണ്ടാക്കിയ സിലബസ് കൊണ്ട് എന്ത് നേടിയെന്ന്. പ്രാക്ടിക്കൽ ലെവലിൽ കുട്ടികളെ പഠിപ്പിക്കണം.. പ്ലസ് ടൂ മുതൽ മാത്രമല്ല ലാബ് വേണ്ടത്, up സെക്ഷൻ മുതൽ കുട്ടികൾക്ക് maths അടക്കമുള്ള വിഷയങ്ങൾക്ക് പ്രാക്ടിക്കൽ നൽകണം.. നാളെ ഇവനെ രാജ്യത്തിന് വേണ്ടി ഉപകാരപ്പെടുത്തണം എന്ന ചിന്തയിലൂടെ വേണം അധ്യാപക സേവനം ചെയ്യാൻ... എവിടെ .. ഇതൊന്നും ഈ മഹാരാജ്യത്ത് നടക്കാൻ പോണില്ല.

നമ്മുടെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിൻ്റെ കുറവ് നമ്മുടെ ബ്രെയിൻ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ കഴിവ് നല്ലരീതിയിൽ develop ചെയ്യണ്ടേ ഒരു സ്റ്റേജ് ഉണ്ട് നമ്മുടെ ഒക്കെ ചെറിയ പ്രായം. I have recently seen tools that visualize the equations like moving 3d models. 10 years back calculus equations were available only as verbal notations. So it was hard to visualize what it was all about. But the moment it is "visualized" as 3d models, it suddenly becomes easy to make sense, and these studies after getting a pretty good understanding of what it is all about.

Please reply to me, as this is important: However, there are 2-3 issues i see with teaching so many concepts in schools we don't need later and most people even don't remember even after taking a PG. 1. The amount of topics is an alibi for teachers, for not teaching the ideas in a proper way to make the student understand. They still make the student just repeat and remember the concepts just for exam. They say otherwise they cannot finsih portions 2. The children has different aptitude and there're multiple intelligence. So ecen if someone has right aptitude and skills he might have set back during plustwo admission due to his score in Hindi. So there should be a classification of basic skills/knowledge and special skills/knowledge even until 10th so that a proper selection criteria can be implemented for higher studies. 3. There are lot more life skills which needs to be introduced to basic education - gender equality & sexual education, communication skills, democratic values, scientific temper etc.

Especially explanations ഒരിക്കലും copy & paste നു മാർക്ക് നൽകരുത് അതിനെ ശരിയായ രീതിയിൽ മനസിലാക്കി ഗ്യാസ് കയറ്റാതെ ആവശ്യമുള്ളത് paraphrase ചെയ്ത് എഴുതാൻ പരിശീലിപ്പിക്കുക. മാത്‍സ് problems examnu ഒരിക്കലും direct questions നൽകരുത്(especially NCERT).

Nice video! But there are still other subjects that we come across in our daily lives, like taxes, finances, cooking etc an introduction to these, as well as an introduction to sports n athletics would be better. Majority of the time in school is dedicated to science, but it would be better to incorporate the basics of things we require in daily life. I understand that sports n cultural events do occur at schools but to teach and introduce them in a systematic way would be better.

accepting all these facts i think medical education in india is top with practical studies more than books with experienced doctors and dealing complex cases of patients. And the engineering and business education lacks these way of education because most of the teachers who teaches business sciences and finance and marketing does not have any practical experience or knowledge they just follow up what they learned and convey meaning to the students.

Great points Mr. Vaishakhan. Could you also do a video on the how - the approach a student has to take in order to learn subjects that require an analytical and applied mindset (such as solving complex problems n math and physics) and how mindset should be different from learning language arts. When I look back, I realize the approach I ( and I am sure most of my contemporaries ) had taken towards general science and language arts as a student was pretty much the same and that changed only towards the end of my education years ( only when I got into engineering where one no longer have art subjects and one is not expected to write essays about history of how some theorem evolved ). I think that was too late. Had this difference been told, at least some of us at that time would have tried out this different approach for math and science and I am sure would have excelled from very early years. Please note that we had (I am not sure whether it is the same now) we had an essay section and a problem section separately and one can get away with descent scores with just one or 2 problems solved and essays written in good handwriting - in Physics and Chemistry - math was the only exception those days. It may not have been told may also be because our education is not especially STEM focused, although many of us somehow end up becoming STEM graduates 😃.

i observed the really absence of critical thinking in our students and in teachers whom should know these things, sadly no one even talking about it.. I also have a strong criticism against oru education system is that, it only focus on grades, i mean mostly, and in teachers and profs are pushing or forcing students to get good grades but undermine the true purpose of education which is learning, whatever subject it is, if we only saying children that, you need to study this because it will give you good grades, and we realm conditioning this through generations and this shouldt happen, rathen than saying focus on grade, teachers should encourage students to really engaging the subject and approach the concepts with critical thinking and understood the complexity of subject then childrens or anyone can understand what really the subject is.. Sadly this isn't happening anywhere atleast in my knowledge and this lot of research evidence done on this issues concluded the same criticism which i mentioned
