Should the pastor be asking for people in the congregation to pray during a service, or should that be the unique responsibility of the pastor/elders? I ask, because I think of things like the Levitical priesthood and how the duties of worship were uniquely theirs, and I don't think they asked for volunteers of the people for prayer. To me it seems to have more weight when the pastor is the one praying, but this is just something I'm considering recently.

reformedfruit the Levitical ordered was a foreshadowing of Christ coming. Us needing a mediator between us and God. But now that we have an eternal mediator that we all have access to we are all called to pray not just put the responsibility on the pastor. The pastor is not our mediator but the equipper of the saints for the work of the ministry.

@@iAmpastorJayWill While I agree, I do believe that the pastoral epistles also specify that the pastoral role is one that a man should be uniquely qualified for, particularly in regards to all steps of liturgy. I suppose it's ok for the pastor to ask for audience volunteers to pray, but i guess I see the pastor as a model of Christ and intervening on behalf of the congregation (particularly those like myself who, for reasons, aren't qualified to serve as an elder/deacon.)
