One of the more beautiful hiking routes on São Miguel is the PRC 37 leading to Janela do inferno, a waterfal emerging from a cave. The waterfall is small, but the are is very beautiful and the hike itself a perfect half-day activity. It seems to be one of the more popular trails on Sao Miguel.
For a half day, we would even consider it one of the best hikes on the island.
So if you are looking for things to do in the Azores, we recommend that you consider this hike.
Janela do Inferno translates to the window of hell, but hell is not what you can expect on this trip.
You will find the parking lot next to Lagoa.

It really was a nice little jungle in between the green fields. The tunnels were fun, though some people seemed to have a hard time with them. You really cannot have claustrophobia on this trail. Thank you for your support.

This hike is beautiful, and it seems to have it all! Beautiful flowers, lovely meadows, and an enchanted forest ✨️ I always like those hikes where the parking lot is empty when you start and full when you return. You know being early was the right choice.

Being early is usually a good choice. Or late. On really popular trails, it seems harder and harder to get some peace and quiet on the walk. We were glad that we barely met anyone on our entire tour and could enjoy the sounds of nature all along the trail. Thank you for watching

Oh I have to agree about this being a beautiful hike...well stunningly beautiful. Just love that tunnel. It is so green and gorgeous, It looks like a setting for a movie- so intriguing. The visuals are fabulous. That sort of suspension bridge walk Wow. I so understand that smile....!You have given me quite a treat to watch. Humbly grateful. Thank you. 👌🥝🙋‍♀

Hi Mr. H4H. It is simply gorgeous and peaceful. I wonder if many bird watchers visit such a quiet destination but birds singing in the background. I like stairs and bridges at the beginning. those unique tunnels I hope you did not bump your head with. hahah Did you take a torch with you? hahah what can I say? Parking bikes on the roof? who can fly? hahahah 11:25 How is the internet situation within the thick woods and tunnels? chills? No ending machines? hahah Well done I guess you don't have to register here in the mountain to hike.

Hi Ms Kayak7Seas, indeed this one did not require a registration. We only had small torches, but those were enough. We used the light from a GoPro mod. Not much but good enough. It is narrow at points, but we managed to get through without hitting our heads. One girl coming from the opposite direction did have a hard time crossing through the tunnel. Overall we did enjoy bird sounds a lot during the hike. A lot of people were in the woods, but we were lucky enough to enjoy a few quiet moments.
