Los Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Mansfield Avenue and Waring Avenue for a reported structure fire. Engine 27 was first on scene and reported four fully engulfed cypress trees with extension to an adjacent residential building. Engine 41 and Engine 27 were fire attack with Truck 61 going to the roof. Members off Engine 27 utilized the wagon battery while members off Engine 41 as well as Engine 27 utilized hoselines. Aggressive offensive attack from firefighters worked to make a quick knockdown thus resulting in only minor damage to a second floor apartment. One occupant from the exposed building was assessed on scene but was also caught in the act of running back into the building for reasons unknown, thus requiring a response from the Los Angeles Police Department. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Recorded in Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA - 9/30/2023

Not just fires…southern California seems to be the “disaster” capital of the US. Fires, earthquakes, plane crashes, riots, mud slides, mass shootings, etc. Disasters of every description. Seems like there’s always some kind of catastrophe going on out there.

For the amount of fire that that was showing, better the trees that were burning and the building. Glad that there were no injuries to anyone related to this incident, John one resident who thought that he needed to go back in. Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.

I swear everyone seems to have those tall trees over there that always burst into flames. In that dry Cali heat, those trees sure can be a hazard. Those firefighters were also very fast in their response and carrying out the attack on the blaze. Pretty crazy video and good camera work.

The 1961 Bel Air/Brentwood fire burned 450 houses and was battled by 2500 firefighters. Los Angelas then passed strict ordinances that forced property owners to keep trees and brush 100 feet away from structures and outlawed cedar shake roofing materials. How soon we forget.
@Woody615
@Woody615 9 ай бұрын
The 100 feet distance is only in areas that are considered Brush. This is in an urban designated area, so it doesn't apply here.

Not often you see the engine pipe get pulled out anymore so anytime I see it I commend the thinking of the crew using it. They got a real quick knockdown on that and any water that blew past and didn't vaporize probably helped cool the 2nd floor down. Something I didn't notice before about the new engines: LAFD adopted the clean cab concept. Can't say I approve of that but, not surprised given how liberal Cali is. Still, these guys kicked some ass here. Strong work.
@Woody615
@Woody615 9 ай бұрын
What is the "clean cab concept"?
@Stargazzer811
@Stargazzer811 9 ай бұрын
@@Woody615 Something that's been going around the fire service for 5-6 years now. Essentially, some departments are returning to the old ways of keeping SCBA rigs outside the cab. In the old days, this was because the cabs were smaller, because the rigs were smaller, so there wasn't enough space to pack 4-5 guys in the cabs plus SCBAs. The solution then was dedicated compartments for the SCBAs and masks. Now, they are doing it because it supposedly reduces the number of carcinogens that firemen are exposed to on the job. Many firemen, including myself, feel that not having your pack on when you exit the cab means you aren't "Ready" to fight the fire, as it takes extra time on scene to open compartments and sling your pack on, which is precious time wasted not getting the wet stuff on the red stuff. As you see here in the video though a well drilled crew can do it rather fast, so time will tell if one side or another is right. Additionally, many cabs built under the clean cab concept have floors that can be sprayed out with hoses and such to wash the interior with ease and thus get rid of any lingering, cancer causing agents or particles.
@Woody615
@Woody615 9 ай бұрын
@@Stargazzer811 On the other hand, given the amount of time it takes to stretch out the hoses, and hook up to the fire hydrant, it seems like a good use of multitasking since others have to do that. So while that is going on, some crew can be putting on their SCBA. Right? Especially after seeing how long it took before they got the wet stuff onto the red stuff (deck gun not withstanding).

Seeing this type of fire 🔥 and the many low and mid rise apartments and buildings that LA has makes me think of them having and buying an X amount of mid mount platforms for its apparatus fleet, but each to its own i guess, Like they said you can lead a horse to the water, but you can’t make him drink it.. Now they may have a few, but i just haven’t seen them.. And i especially take a liking to those new pierce mid mount accendent platforms that many departments are buying/jumping on, and I think the LAFD Would look quite beautiful/snazzy with them in their fleet, even a few aerial scopes would look quite beautiful and if not spectacular in their fleet as well… just my beautiful opinion on that department and city..🤔🔥🚒🚨

I really wish people were required to take a course on how to shoot live video that would help them understand how much better these videos would be if they slowed the movements and pans down. Otherwise take the time to edit out the extreme shifts.

Try filming a video of a fire as big as this and explain how “taking a course” will benefit from filming in the environment of 1500-2000° that’s caused by flames. It teaches you nothing. There’s no mandatory rule in recording. But again, try filming a big fire and see if taking classes will help, as if it will.
