Only soak it for the first day, then just turn the bag over a couple times a day and it stay moist, seed will germ much quicker and you will get a far better germination rate. Bonus, you don’t have to hassle with the water change every day.

@@HomegrownHowTo I’ve done it many times and many ways. Most successful was the method I mentioned with one day soak or just overnight soak, one soak period, then left it in the bucket, and just turned it over twice a day so the moisture keeps moving down through the seed to keep it wet but not soaked. My KBG popped cotton tips in 3.5 days and was ready to spread.
@wcbscout Жыл бұрын
You don’t want to prevent airflow to the bottom of the bag, so the bucket can be counter productive if the bag fills the bucket, I put a spacer on the bottom of the bucket so the seed isn’t sitting in water as it drains to the bottom, also making sure there’s air going down the sides of the bag to the bottom if that makes sense.

if you soak your seeds for 7days and it takes 6days to germinate isn't that about the time it would take anyway

My seed states it would take 21 day’s minimum to germ. Others using other varieties of seed state they saw about a 1/3 decrease in time to germ. Which this was spot on. So about a week sooner counting total time.

I soaked my blue grass seed for about 10 days charging out the water twice in 24 hours, Was waiting for grass sprouts as others mentioned but never saw any. I'm pretty sure I ruined the lot. Fertilized the area before laying down the seed but no dice. Bad lot of seed, maybe. Used some Pennington coated seed and had sprouts in less than 2 weeks, no soaking. I won't be soaking again. Just my experience.

So how do you make sure the grass is facing up once it’s germinated? Maybe I’m missing something, but if it’s already sprouted and then just thrown down, it could land with the blade facing down and might not grow.
@HomegrownHowTo2 ай бұрын
I mean, it would be the same as if you didn’t pre-germ, right? It really doesn’t matter which way the seed lands. They’re small enough and the roots will spread as long as it’s got some soil contact.

If the sprout is pointing down, it will just turn itself around and grow up. Nature finds a way! While some seeds might die from the extra work, some also die if you don't do it this way, from getting eaten or washed away.
