Modern recordings are almost universally bad. Dynamically compressed, dull, flat, spaceless, unnatural sound. But no LP crackling
@athanassioszotos17134 жыл бұрын
@@ryanhaart you may be surprised but when the first "perfect" without noise CDs got out,the result was eerie and unnatural.So the recording firms decided to "add" some ...humanity noises to that perfection,one of these was the LP crackling.Sounds weird,but it's true!

If you are a lousy judge, then I am as well. I find Hamari's work on the SMP to be a wonderful interpretation, beautifully rendered, and with true passion. Her work is even more evocative as seen through video. I listen over and over again to the glorious voice she puts to the great master.

@fiddlebanshee8 жыл бұрын
+dringsong She gets the stamina by staying in excellent physical shape and practicing. Singing at this level is like professional sports - besides the creative/musical aspect there is also the athletic achievement of getting your body to perform at the highest level.

+Georg Andor "You can't live by rules alone... those who make the rules have no life" - K. Richter. Also please mind that K. Richter was considered the height of "historically informed" in his time. When, in his later years, some scholars started questioning his style, he addressed them with the above mentioned phrase, with which I agree.

+Leonardo Paoletti I totally agree with you: besides I think the Mattheus Passion conducted by Karl Richter far better than any other. This odd issue of the period instruments is odd.

I appreciate this womanly, fully voiced interpretation. Such a beautiful aria actually carries itself whatever voice qualities are brought to it. I also totally embrace the lighter vocal qualities, typical of the genre in the last 30 or so years. Fortunately, we are moving towards whole-person singing, i.e. women, not women holding back their fullness in order to sound like boys. Sometimes..... progress is good! :)
@romankotov367 жыл бұрын
What a ridiculously snide, sanctimonious and ignorant comment. Do you understand what the part Julia Hamari is singing is about? I doubt, otherwise you wouldn't post something as laughable as that
@znazzer87 жыл бұрын
From my college music manual: "Note: until well after Bach's time it was not considered proper for women to sing in church so that all the choral and solo parts of the Passion would have been sung by men and boys." Maybe Fliss is referring to this. Anyway, you should reconsider your comment etiquette

I would love to hear Hamari's work on the Goennenwein (as an interpretation I seem unable to find). I personally favor Richter's tempo, despite many complaints to the contrary. The "Erbarme dich" is one of my favourites, but I have never had the chance to hear her work with Rilling. PS, I have my own horror stories of loaning a rare Gould recording to a girlfriend. Although I still have her recording of Mozart's Requiem. ;-p

Thank you. I agree with all your comments, except I expect we'll now both agree we're not lousy judges.I've heard her on cd with Gonnenwein and with Rilling doing the SMP. Her "Erbarme" with Rilling is spell-binding, also because of the tone of the violin obbligato.I no longer have that recording, lent it to a girlfriend years ago -not a good idea.

This is undoubtedly awesome... for a classic interpretation. Now our ears (particularly mine) are used to authentic interpretations, as close as possible from the original. I love Julia Hamari in Mozart's Requiem Karl Böhm version in 1971 for DG, but hearing her in this aria sounds painful for me. Now we have lots of countertenors who, imho, sing like angels in Heaven.

Was ist passiert ?!?!?

This is a tremendously awful interpretation. Tempo and articulation are grandiose here, not tragic and intimate as the words necessitate. Her singing is the musical equivalent of typing in all-caps: no subtlety nor intonation -- I'd be surprised if she's on pitch more than half the time. I rarely care to dislike any videos on KZfaq, but this certainly deserves it. Good cinematography though.
