Good video! I think you’re right about positional shooting, it’s what makes the difference in competition. It’s very advantageous to be proficient in building effective shooting positions. Off-hand is the foundation. Solidify that foundation with practice, and everything that’s built from there will be strong.

I just started in smallbore competition starting with 4 position 50' competition. I'm using a 10/22 as that is what I already had and didn't want to spend a lot of money if I didn't like it. I have a feeling I'll will be spending more money soon on it. Thanks for the tips on the sitting and kneeling. I'll give them a try as I have been putting my elbows on my knees in both positions.

Hey x I had the pleasure of shooting with y’all Saturday at liberty . I had spoke with you about my vudoo that I ordered . Still a lot of wait time . Anyhow I got a prs1 stock for it . But shooting the match was the first time I’ve used a chassis system and it was just a better feeling and controllable platform it seamed . My question is the apparition from vudoo . Sams to be a great chassis system what do you think of it or have you ran that chassis ? Also have you herd or done any research on the new 3-60 ?

Yeah that KYL target is a must have if your gonna get into rimfire shooting, it's great for training and a little bit of gambling within other shooter's. Ray try it at 100yrds 10 shots 5 target's 2 different shooting positions like you had there but go from biggest to smallest and reverse it from small to big, Good luck to you guys. Oh yeah and is that a 16in barrel on your rifle ?

Thanks Walter! We definitely shoot that drill quite a bit. The barrel on the Vudoo is an 18”.

Hi Ray, what are the sizes of the targets at the other distances? If people want to learn and practice positional shooting please come to an Appleseed shoot. We teach with a sling as Ray says it is MUCH steadier. I believe it is the best training value available.
@XRING3 жыл бұрын
Hey Charles, It varies with each match. Typically, what I have seen is about 2”-3” targets at 100, 200 is about 5”x5”, 300 is about 12”x12” 400 is 20”. These are from the last couple of matches

Shooting offhand you will always have wabble. I find geeting the rifle to move in a figure 8 pattern. Then just learn when to squeeze off the shot as it is coming across your target.

Hello Ray, what base would you recommend (0, 15, 20 MOA) for a Tikka T1X with an Athlon scope with 18 mils of adjustment? It will be used to shoot 50 ~ 250 yards.

I would go 30-40 on all rimfires. So 20 would be my suggestion. 👍🏼

Or if you’re asking about what Ray shoots for his centerfire rifle, he uses an Accuracy International bolt action rifle in 6mm creedmoor I believe unless he switched it back to 6.5 Creedmoor or 6mm PRC

@XRING3 жыл бұрын
Lapua, SK, or Eley. Try to stay with subsonic ammunition.
@KrisSays8 ай бұрын
Ray, doesn't that expose your bullet to the elements for a longer duration than that of even a "regular" velocity? I heard the high/hyper velocity ammo have some crazy ES... But, pretty consistent velocitied with the regular... Do sub's just have a smaller ES? Or what is your reasoning?
@XRING8 ай бұрын
@KrisSays Typically, with subsonic match ammunition, the es and sd’s are much lower. You also don’t have to worry about bullets transitioning from supersonic to subsonic speeds.

Hello Ray. I am trying to get into the NRL22. I was looking at these two rifles. CZ Varmint Precision Chassis with the 24'' barrel. Anschutz 1710 XLR 23'' barrel. What rifle scope would you recommend in getting their is so many to choose from. I do not have a price range. I do have around 3arces looking to set up a range for long range shooting. Can you help me in picking out targets for the range to use. If you like I will send you my e mail. Would like your help getting this set up . Thank you for a great video. and sharing.
@XRING3 жыл бұрын
Thanks David, I appreciate the comments. The rifle is going to 100% personal choice. I would however opt for a 20” length. That is all the barrel you need. If you can find a Vudoo I would definitely hold out for one of those if NRL22 and PRS rimfire is your end goal. Also, we haven’t gotten them yet but the rimfire targets by JC Steel seems like the way to go. They have a NRL 22 package that looks like it will have everything you need to get set up. I hope that helps.
