@@harleyzeth which is quite ironic, since the Crab Guard´s greatest weakness is a left hook, for which Joe Frazier was known for best! Also, since the body is not protected well enough and Joe usually worked the body on the inside first, this was not so good.

@@MrTigracho The counter disability may be true in boxing, but in MMA, you have other countering options. Elbows can work from the crossguard, and leg-kicks flow surprisingly well from it. Another thing i've discovered but haven't spar-tested yet is straight palm strikes. The moment you pass your hand over your centerline, firing straight punches becomes nigh impossible because the angle is so awkward. This is cause for the countering disability you were mentionning. However you don't get that awkwardness if you throw palm strikes instead. Though they won't be KOing anybody anytime soon, with good hip and shoulder rotation, those shots can have a decent pop to them.

Being 42 I use this guard a lot to rebound my energy. I typically use a mix of philly shell into cross guard just as the video states. A few elbow punches and usually they back off and lets you reset your game plan. It is a chess match not a race.

I felt that i'm 21 and do to genetics have bad knees but not bad enough to where i can't keep going and i use a mix of philly shell high guard and cross guards. But honestly my preferred and basic neutral stance is usually Peekaboo since i'm small and it keeps me nearly entirely covered. Most people assume it wouldn't be that hard to break through all these guards but it honestly is a nightmare since i'm a southpaw switch hitter that mainly stays orthodox. To alleviate confusion i was born left handed but trained right handed because it felt more natural. now starting to round it out with more southpaw boxing while also training my right to be stronger.

@dr.dylansgame5583
@dr.dylansgame5583 3 ай бұрын
@@darkshadowgaming1132 Well my Training with Many Methods in Unorthodox even by Martial Arts Standards. However some tips I will give that Help with that Body Type are as follows. First if your using Shell Styles and Orthodox with Short Arms. The best thing to do against someone Bigger with Longer Reach especially. Is quite Frankly to be Heavily Aggressive Using the Shell to Push into Their Jabs and Straights. Bobbing and Weaving Back and Forth adding Occasional Ducking all at a Fast Pace and make sure to Change that Rythmm constantly so you don't get Predictable. This will Naturally make you a Harder Target to Hit you Might take a Couple Jabs and maybe a Cross or Two Stepping in. But just watch For Hooks, Uppercuts, and Other Big Punches, Etc. For Hooks Roll Under them in a Pendulum like Motion. You usually want to Hit Back with Your Own Hooks After Ducking/Rolling Out to Their Side for Uppercuts either Learn to Lean Back or do a Quick Step Back after Staying Close at the Last Second to Confuse Range. Since a Good Short Uppercut comes Straight Under the Chin and as such if your Already Moving Out the Way it should Whiff Completely if you step Entirely Out the the Foothold Range. You want to use these Big Opportunities to Completely Counterpunch when they're Wide Open. Be Patient and Don't get Hasty. Purposefully even Corner Yourself or Walk them Towards You. If you can get them in Your Short Arm Range your already at an Advantage. Train your Speed and Percision to Hit the Strike at that Decisive Moment. And train the Endurance to Throw Repeatedly Blindingly Fast Combinations off One Big Shot while they're Stunned. Speed, Precision, and Mostly Timing are Key. Learn to Throw Two to Three Jabs a Second. And make the Cross Follow Half Way or Less as your Jab Pulls Back. So it seems as if it connects Right as Your Jab does. And make sure to always Root Those Arms Tucked in Immediatly Following. You want to always have a Guarded Foundation even while Attacking. Always have a Counter and Defense Mounted. One Hand into Other Hand is the Foundation of Boxing. Also learn how to hit the Same Hand from the Same Side again if you Have to like a Jab into a Hook with the Same Hand. How to even use a Lead Hook or Uppercut out of Nowhere. If you constantly switch it up it leaves your Opponent Confused more Often then Not. Never fall Too Hard into One Pattern. But outside of that the Reason I kept mentioning Getting in Point Blank Close. Is you want to Press into Them and Smother Their Arms to make it Harder to Attack Back. Use your Shoulder and Press into Their Lead Hand. This cuts off Their Jab and if your to Their Lead Side. This also makes it really hard with a Boxing Stance for them to Throw Their Cross. And a Good Shell Guard always protecting the Chin and Organs will stop any Half Assed Punch even if it Hurts a Bit. Stopping Aggression with Even More Aggression once your Inside. Press Forehead to Forehead if you have to. But don't stay there Too Long. Keep Moving Shoulder to Shoulder and Duck down to Their Hip on Hooks and it should Graze over Top of the Head. And if your Close and Can't Move Backwards to Dodge an Uppercut try to Move as Far as Possible to the Side Off your Centerline since that's right where the Uppercut will Land and Be. Also my Final Tip of Advice when being Aggressive and Crowding someone Bigger. Is to always when throwing Big Combinations is to Aim for the Arms and Body and not to Head Hunt. This if the Person is Durable and In Good Shape and Can Take a Punch leaves you Wide Open. As such you want to Wear Down Their Body and Arms Overtime. Even if you don't have a lot of Power. If you Keep Hitting the Body Their Chin Eventually has to Open Up. And Slows Down Their Footwork. And hitting the Arms will Slowly Break Them Down. Eventually Slowing Down Their Punches. As well as Slowing Their Ability to Defend Themselves. And suddenly a Person that seems like a Brick Wall becomes Much Easier to Take on and Defeat. Make sure when you do these to try to Hit the Exact Same Spot Repeatedly while still Mixing Up the Attacks. Aim for the Liver, Kidneys, and Solar Plexus in the Middle Upper Core of the Stomach. That place usually isn't Guarded Well by Most Guards except for X Shaped Cross Guards. And Knocks the Wind out of Them if they aren't Braced for It. On The Arms Target the Same Spot on the Bicep Repeatedly. Slowly buy Surely they will Slow if Even just a little. And eventually you will have your Counter Punch Timing come up when they have Slowed Down.

@MrTigracho
@MrTigracho 3 жыл бұрын
If you move your left arm in the right place, I guess you can do it. But with some combinations, the uppercut is perhaps the best way to open the cross guard from below. But if user squares up and weaves down and up, then that changes. The only weakness of this guard is that you can't counter easily. But there are ways to navigate throught that.

I find this guard is great when firing rapid "throwaway" jabs or blinding jabs like Hearns as it allows you to keep your lead arm relaxed whilst maintaining defensive responsibility. It's great for practising an active guard as I find it's easier to watch your opponent behind and will often confuse newer boxers and make them overthink their offense as you're giving them an unfamilar look. Grest video!

If you stay aware and watch your opponent that shouldn’t be a problem. A slight shift is all that’s needed to keep either side safe. It’s just seeing through feints that’s the problem. Muscle memory should help with that to. As In even if you might’ve been a bit slow on reading the other boxer those reflexes honed with hard work and lots of blood and sweat kick in! At the same time however an over reliance on this guard usually ends badly at the higher levels of the sweet science.

The smoother transition from the full prevention of the cross arm to long-combo-forward-movement.... I mean... you aren't going to use the Leverage Defense backing up unless you are crazy or out on your feet :) I find it very effective to use the Leverage Defense to both transition safely back to Outboxing, and clear their guard after you deliver the Cross Arm Guard clash... and I LOVE that you made sure people learned to utilize the clash of guards.... one of the best benefits of Cross Arm Guard IMO.

something you can't do with boxing gloves but which helps with bracing for powershots, is putting your thumb under your armpit. The way it makes your hand rest on the shoulder creates a very solid structure. Useful against people who knock your guard around with big loopy punches, but limits your parrying abilities, since it locks your hand in place.

I like what he's doing I'm really impressed all you have to do is put your right forearm across your forehead that will eliminate all the other movement or block everything that coming straight at you not bad coach left-arm should be against your body not away from your body laying the left-arm right across your stomach near your hips lay across your hips like he's doing and block body shots good job

Imo the gaurd should be taught more . The defense it offers is amazing If done correctly. Also for MMA and self defense . Offensively and counter opportunity wize a little hard but if u can sneakly uze this gaurd it's vary effective .. I switch between this gaurd and your standard gaurds often . I don't thank u wanna use the same gaurd all the time . Same as a NFL team doesn't use the same defense and offenses .. u keep your opponent guessing .

crossed arm guard is one of the best boxing guards in my opinion, but the user is also the most welcoming triangle choke casualties if your opponent is a mma expert

I know this is for boxing, but this seems like a really interesting guard for muay thai. Since elbows are legal you can throw some really nasty elbows from within the guard if you fight inside. Will have to test it out but seems like a hidden gem for muay thai.

The sole purpose of the cross arm guard is to break the knuckles( by baiting the power hand which is the cross). Or crowd your opponent. 52 block practitioner will use it too close the distance. Covert it into a strike to set up other combinations. Archie Moore use similar tactics in the ring, including George Foreman.
